More Mario movie concept art discovered, includes Daisy and more

Another round of concept art has been spotted for The Super Mario Bros. Movie, and one of the images even includes Daisy.
The art comes from Jed Diffenderfer, who worked as a story artist on the film. There are eight images in total showing different aspects and possibly cut elements. Daisy is a big one here as she’s shown in the final battle – plus there’s even a Toad riding a Blue Yoshi, which is straight out of Super Mario World.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie came out last year to much success. For Nintendo, this ended up impacting its bottom line in a positive way. President Shuntaro Furukawa touched on this during the Q&A portion of a financial briefing this week.
According to Furukawa, The Super Mario Bros. Movie contributed to the mobile and IP related business seeing a big increase year-on-year. He explained:

Megan Rose Ruiz and Travis Ruiz, two artists that worked on The Super Mario Bros. Movie, have revealed new concept art – plus sketches and other images – from their time working on the project.
Many of the images are for Toad, including one dedicated to designs. Megan said they were initially “asked to explore what different body types for the Toads might look like.” They added that “for the final film, I think there was only variation in color and outfit”.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie joins Peacock in August

The Super Mario Bros. Movie had a lengthy run in theaters, but it’ll soon be making its first appearance on streaming services with a release date set for Peacock next month. Reports are emerging that the film goes live on August 3, 2023.
The Super Mario Bros. Movie previously premiered in theaters this past April. It’s had a hugely successful run since then. For one thing, it’s the highest-grossing video game adaptation of all time. The film is also the third-highest grossing animated film in history, and the top-grossing title of the year to date. Over $1.3 billion in revenue was generated.

Jakks Pacific making several new toys for The Super Mario Bros. Movie

Jakks Pacific has unveiled a new wave of toys based on The Super Mario Bros. Movie. The lineup includes a variety of figures plus a Bowser’s Island Castle playset, Donkey Kong Stadium playset, Inflatable Bowser’s Battle, and Mario Rumble R/C Kart Racer.

Chris Pratt says Super Mario Bros. Movie 2 news should be shared “soon”

Chris Pratt, the voice of Mario in the recent film, has indicated that news about The Super Mario Bros. Movie 2 should be coming “soon.”
Pratt spoke with ET about the movie, including its success. He mentioned the ongoing writers’ strike which has put many productions on hold. However, when things have been finalized, “then it’ll be time to start talking about what’s next for that.”

Original (5/14): Based on the latest box office numbers for The Super Mario Bros. Movie, it’s now the fourth-highest grossing animated film ever. It took over that achievement from Minions.
The Super Mario Bros. Movie has earned $536 million domestically. In total, it’s collected $1.21 million.

Sebastian Maniscalco read for Mario in the new movie, but was given the role of Spike instead

The Super Mario Bros. Movie ultimately cast Chris Pratt as the voice of Mario, but it turns out Sebastian Maniscalco also threw his hat into the ring in hopes of nabbing the role.
Maniscalco recently appeared on Live with Kelly and Mark, and one of the hosts asks how he didn’t end up playing Nintendo’s plumber. He revealed that he actually read for Mario, but was given the role of Spike instead. For what it’s worth, Maniscalco believes Pratt “did a great job.”

Sony CEO saw The Super Mario Bros. Movie, says Mario is a beautiful and wonderful IP

Sony CEO Kenichiro Yoshida is apparently a big fan of Mario, to the point where he actually went to see The Super Mario Bros. Movie recently.
Yoshida has also said that Mario is a beautiful and wonderful IP. Back in the day – or specifically 30 years ago – he played the franchise intensely.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie confirmed for digital release on May 16

The Super Mario Bros. Movie will be seeing its digital home debut tomorrow, May 16, Universal Home Pictures has announced. The film can be seen on digital platforms in the United States where you can buy or rent movies from Universal Pictures Home Entertainment.
Fans will also eventually be able to purchase The Super Mario Bros. Movie on Blu-ray and DVD, but a release date has not been announced. Currently pre-orders are available at retailers such as Best Buy.
