Mario Party 2

Mario Party and Mario Party 2 are appearing on Nintendo Switch Online next month, Nintendo has announced. Both will be available on November 2, 2022 for members of the Expansion Pack tier.

Mario Party launched for the N64 in 1999 (very end of 1998 in Japan) and was the original party-starter for the series. The classic four-player party game has you joining Mario and friends across nine action-packed Adventure Boards and 56 minigames in competition that can be experienced alone or with friends.

Update (12/23): The discount is now in place, so you should find that the $2 discount upgrade is live.

Original (12/22): Mario Party 2 launched on Wii U today, though this isn’t the first time the game has seen a Virtual Console release. It also came out on Wii many years ago. Of course, that means those who purchased the original Virtual Console version should be entitled to a $2 upgrade price on Wii U instead of the full $10. But unfortunately, it’s not showing up currently.

Zelda: Majora’s Mask went through something similar a few weeks ago. Soon after the issue was reported, Nintendo corrected the problem. I imagine that will be the case here as well.

This week’s North American Wii U Virtual Console title is Mario Party 2. That’s according to Nintendo’s website, which has it listed for release tomorrow.

We have the following overview from the site:

“Get ready to party like it’s the year 2000 all over again, complete with fancy costumes, bags of surprises, and games galore! Mario and his Mushroom Kingdom friends return for a brand-new round of Bowser-bashing board game action. Each of your favorite characters don different themed outfits to take part in five fun-packed Adventure Boards: Pirate Land, Western Land, Space Land, Mystery Land, and Horror Land. Then battle Bowser on his own specific board…if you’re brave enough.”

Mario Party 2 will set you back $9.99.
