Developer Nomada Studio has announced that Gris will be getting a physical version after all. Special Reserve Games will have the exclusive on this one. Pre-orders for the game open on July 25, and will close off on July 17.

One of the games listed on Special Reserve Games’ website is Gris. Based on that, it was widely assumed a physical version will be happening. Apparently that’s not the case after all.

Speaking with Ninty Gamer, Nomada Studio co-founder Roger Mendoza said: “There isn’t a really a physical edition planned, but we aren’t discarding the possibility either.”

Special Reserve Games is involved with physical releases for Digital Devolver products. If Gris isn’t receiving a boxed copy, it’s unclear why the title would have its own placement on the website.

Special Reserve Games has started working with Devolver Digital to bring out physical versions of their titles. As we reported earlier today, pre-orders for The Messenger just opened.

Gris is another Devolver Digital-published game that should be receiving the physical treatment. Special Reserve Games has updated its website, which now includes the critically-acclaimed Switch title. No word yet on when it’ll be launching or when pre-orders are going live, but we’ll let you know when we hear more.

Here’s a brief rundown of what’s included:

After it’s been out for just a week, Nomada Studio has announced that Gris has already turned a profit. That news was shared on Twitter a short while ago.

It’s unclear just how much Gris has sold at this point. We’re also unsure how the game has sold on Switch. However, we do know that it is charting pretty high on the eShop charts – it currently sits at #7 for all titles and #2 for digital-only releases in the United States.

Every now and again a game comes along that feels leagues apart from everything else we see in the industry. Whether through its story, art style, gameplay, or even a combination of all those elements, those titles are the ones that will most likely leave a lasting impression on us for years. Even though those games are few and far between, when they do show up it feels like a breath of fresh air in a space that can feel stale and stifling every so often. Gris, published by Devolver Digital and developed by Nomada Studio, is one of those special releases.

Ahead of its release tomorrow, Devolver Digital published a launch trailer for Gris. We’ve included the video below.

Nomada Studio and Devolver Digital have announced a release date for GRIS, “a serene and evocative narrative experience”. On Switch, it’ll be out on December 13 as a digital download.
