EA, Zoink bringing Fe to Switch

Posted on August 21, 2017 by (@NE_Brian) in News, Switch

The Zoink-developed Fe is on the way to Switch, EA just announced at its Gamescom 2017 media briefing.

Here’s a brief overview:

Fe is a new type of wordless platformer full of sounds. Through Fe, a small cub that suddenly awakes in the forest, players will discover a world they will never want to leave as they use sound to communicate, connect with nature, identify friendly and unfriendly creatures and interpret their own narrative along the way.

Fe isn’t the only new Switch game from Zoink. The studio is also working on Flipping Death for Nintendo’s console.

Fe will be available on Switch in early 2018. View a trailer for the game below, along with today’s full announcement.

COLOGNE, Germany–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: EA) today announced that the EA Originals title Fe will be launching worldwide in early 2018. Developed by the award-winning Swedish studio Zoink Games, Fe is a new type of wordless platformer full of sounds. Through Fe, a small cub that suddenly awakes in the forest, players will discover a world they will never want to leave as they use sound to communicate, connect with nature, identify friendly and unfriendly creatures and interpret their own narrative along the way.

“We wanted to create a game that gives the feeling of exploring something special,” said Klaus Lyngeled, CEO and Creative Lead at Zoink Games. “We would spend hours in the woods as kids, and while it felt scary at first, eventually the strange sounds became familiar — you become part of nature and the forest feels like home. Players will realize similar feelings as they play through Fe. Wherever and however the game is played, we ensure it will be a unique experience of discovery, unlike anything played before.”

“Through Fe, Zoink has reminded us that everything is connected. They have created a game where the magic and beauty of nature, and all its creatures, come alive,” said Patrick Soderlund, EVP of EA Worldwide Studios. “This game and this studio embody the spirit of the EA Originals program that we started a little over a year ago – the freedom to create, and to bring uniquely innovative and memorable games to players all over the world.”

In Fe, players will be enchanted by the natural surroundings as they uncover secrets, complete side quests, and meet the mystical creatures of the forest. Players will climb, glide and dig as they voyage through the open experience meeting, interacting and rescuing plants and animals from the Silent Ones, the machine antagonists that are threatening the forest. Through unparalleled freedom of exploration in a world full of discoveries to uncover, players will become Fe and never want to leave.

Fe will be launching worldwide in early 2018 on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Origin for PC and Nintendo Switch. Fe is not yet rated by the ESRB. For more information on Fe please visit https://www.EA.com/Games/Fe.

    This actually looks quite good.

Guess this is one of the “other” EA games coming to the Switch outside of FIFA.

    • Indielink

There was a platformer they released last year, Unravel, that they published AND developed.

  • Blanco8x8

But…but…FIFA 18 is not released yet.

    • Jacob Groves

Well Fe is indie game so….

“Art House” EA may not have full ownership of the “Originals” IPs, but they have full publishing rights and at least one producer at each studio.

The first EA game I may buy and am interested in in well over a decade.

The hell is wrong with me?

  • Seaphron

Appreciate this olive branch from EA. I’ll definitely pick up on the Switch.

  • WTFISTHISSHIT?

    I like the art direction.

  • theFooFighter

This was a great move from ea. I have no problem supporting their switch releases but I have 0 interest in sports sims. FIFA alone wouldn’t be a good way to gauge interest imo

  • Jacob Groves

It look nice game. I will think about this game on Switch or PS4 but I will choose Switch version for sure but still thinking about it. 🙂

EA need to put big AAA games on Switch not just FIFA too. 😛

Is this a test too? Or actual support? lol

    It looks pretty good btw.

EA’s actual ownership of their “Originals” titles is actually dubious at best, ironically enough. Since Zoink already has experience porting to Switch, something that is apparently very easy for games that are actually optimized correctly, I bet it was just a simple matter of a couple lines of code to port it for them.

I swore to myself I wouldn’t buy a EA game unless it was called SSX, but I might make an exception for this one.

  • hi v3.0

    I’m interested!

  • JJ

But where oh where is Star Wars?

  • Reggie

I think I saw this at an E3 conference. It looked interesting then, but it didn’t grab my full attention as it wasn’t announced for any Nintendo consoles then.

    This is a nice surprise.

I get an Ori feel from this

  • Radish

Wow, this looks good! I’m buying, thanks EA!

  • As the Switch continues to print money more and more western 3rd parties will jump aboard. This is so unlike EA but consider me very interested

  • FutureFox

    Could be an iron-clad hit.

    Awoo: The Game

  • Bruno_Ostara

Gosh, it looks so beautiful. And this “make the world howl again” just took the money out of my wallet. I’m seriously hyped for this game. This sounds of the forest thing they got going on just speaks deeply to me
