March 2013 NPD: Monster Hunter, LEGO City, Need for Speed, Castlevania estimates
Posted on 11 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in 3DS, News, Podcast Stories, Wii U | 0 comments
A few big titles came out on Nintendo platforms last month. Arguably the most significant was Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, which launched on both the Wii U and 3DS.
In roughly three weeks, Ultimate moved somewhere between 100,000 and 130,000 copies on both platforms. The 3DS picked up 60% of the game’s sales while Wii U picked up the other 40%. Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate is now 13th all time on NPD’s Wii U lifetime software chart.
Other NPD estimates include LEGO City: Undercover (more than 100,000 copies, but less than Ultimate on Wii U and 3DS), Need for Speed: Most Wanted U (less than 10,000 copies), and Castlevania: Lords of Shadow – Mirror of Fate (around 30,000 units).
Mario spotted on Japanese “Year of Luigi” 3DS XL system

Japan will be getting a special “Year of Luigi” 3DS XL system. There’s just one thing: the design isn’t completely Luigi-filled.
Mario seems to have found his way onto the design. Sneaky, sneaky.

March 2013 NPD: rumored hardware sales
Posted on 11 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in 3DS, DS, Podcast Stories, Rumors, Wii, Wii U | 0 comments
The NPD Group does not typically release hardware and software sales data for video games, which means we generally must rely on leaks and clues coming from official statements to piece together data.
In the case of the March 2013 report, we may have figures for almost all major platforms. A leak has allegedly sprung up on 2ch, and while we typically tend to be hesitant in sharing official information from that source, numbers listed on the message board do sound feasible.
The figures are as follows:
?3DS 230K?+1%? (nearly confirmed based on NPD analysis)
?Wii 91K??47%?
?Wii U 67K
?PS3 211K??36%?
?360 261K??30%?(official)
Assuming the data above is correct, that would mean the DS sold 86,000 units, the PS Vita moved 33,000 units, and the PSP tacked on another 8,000 units.

In the US, GameStop will be handing out an exclusive pre-order costume for Shin Megami Tensei IV. Canada won’t be left out – two retailers in the country will be giving consumers unique costumes as well.
First up, Amazon Canada is offering the upper body armor for the Eastern Kingdom of Mikado’s Samurai. EB Games Canada also has “upper body armor” that is “styled like a black-and-red zip-up hoodie.”
You can get a look at both costumes below.
Tetris Axis is just $10 on the 3DS eShop
Posted on 11 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in 3DS, 3DS eShop, News | 0 comments
Tetris Axis finally hit the 3DS eShop this week after having been out at retail for around a year and a half.
Nintendo made an intelligent move in pricing the game. Rather than setting it at $40 or $30 – you know, the standard price of 3DS titles – Axis can be purchased for just $9.99. A smart decision given that the game has been out so long, right?
3DS XL Circle Pad Pro won’t be available at retail

Interested in the 3DS XL Circle Pad Pro? Then you’ll need to purchase the product directly from Nintendo’s only store.
There are no plans to offer the accessory at retail, Nintendo has said. The regular Circle Pad Pro was made available at GameStop locations.
Nintendo said in a statement:
“There are no plans to sell this accessory at other retail locations at this time.”
Armature on leaving Nintendo, low games output, not disappointing fans with Batman, more
Posted on 11 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in 3DS, General Nintendo, News | 0 comments
A trio of Retro staffers left the company in 2008 and formed Armature Studio.
You might be wondering: what sparked the move? Game director Mark Pacini explained the decision in an interview with Game Informer:
I was there for eight years. When you work for Nintendo, Nintendo’s an awesome company. They’re great to work for. It’s hard, challenging work, but it’s rewarding at the same time. But given that regard, there’s a limited amount of things you can do in Nintendo. You can’t work on other platforms. You kind of work on games that they would like you to work on, so after doing three of the same games in a row, we were kind of like, we’d really like the flexibility to do other things.
