The Mushroom Kingdom invades Left 4 Dead
Posted on 15 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in General Nintendo, News | 0 comments
A fan has taken on the assignment of combining two established properties: Left 4 Dead and Mario. DoritoClock has built a completely custom map and has managed to fit Peach’s true home – the Mushroom Kingdom – in the level. While it’s possible to explore the outer castle, players can also step inside and view a fairly decent recreation of the lobby as well. You can check out a few images of the map below.

Rare not upset that Nintendo didn’t request Conker, Banjo in Smash Bros.
Posted on 15 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in General Nintendo, News | 2 Comments
This information comes from Rare’s latest Scribes update…
“Well, it was hardly surprising: Conker had only appeared in DKR at that point and Banjo-Kazooie was in development at the same time as Smashy.”
Really, I have to agree with Rare here. Besides, there were only 12 characters in the original Smash Bros. and you could argue that Banjo and Conker were not established characters at that point.
This news is a little more surprising, though:
“Memory tells me there were almost a boatload of Rare character trophies in Melee at one point, but it never happened.”
Melee came out in 2001, but Rare was bought out by Microsoft in 2002. It’s certainly possible that the acquisition – even though it occurred after the game’s release – was some sort of a contributing factor for the loss of Rare trophies in the game.
Scribblenauts devs teasing an announcement
Posted on 15 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in General Nintendo, News | 0 comments
Scribblenauts isn’t even a week old, but that isn’t stopping 5th Cell from teasing fans with an announcement of sorts. Check out this short message, which was posted over at the Scribblenauts official Facebook page…
“Get your rooster hats ready! We have a very special announcement coming very soon…”
One would think that this would be Scribblenauts-related, since the notice was specifically relayed over on the Facebook page for the game. If it had something to do with 5th Cell in general, the message probably would have appeared somewhere else, such as the company’s twitter. However, it’d be wise not to get too excited at this point, mainly because we have absolutely no idea what 5th Cell is teasing. But we should find out what this is all about “very soon.”
Capcom looking to balance traditional titles with new IPs
Posted on 15 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in General Nintendo, News | 4 Comments
This comes from the Capcom-Unity forums…
“We’ll always be experimenting with new IP. This generation of hardware alone has given us:
Lost Planet
Age of Booty
Flock
Dead Rising
Zack & Wiki
Spyborgs
We Love Golf
Dark Void
Ghost Trick (recently announced)
If you wanted to take a more liberal view of something like TvC, you could call it a new franchise for us, even if it isn’t new IP (all characters have previously existed).
And I’m sure some others I’m forgetting off the top of my head. Naturally, we always need to be introducing new IP so that we have some percentage of them “stick” to become ongoing franchises. But it’s always a balancing act both to keep fans happy and to manage risk.” – Christian Svensson, Corporate Officer/VP of Strategic Planning & Business Development

Nintendo removes Game & Watch collection from Club Nintendo
Posted on 15 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in General Nintendo, News | 2 Comments
That’s right – The Game & Watch collection has been removed from Club Nintendo. And unfortunately, Nintendo has yet to add any additional prizes. You may remember that Denise Kaigler teased exclusive artwork for this month, but that reward has yet to go live on the site. I assume that it should be up sometime in the next two weeks if Denise plans on keeping her word!

Konami to make a few announcements at TGS
Posted on 15 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in General Nintendo, News | 1 Comment
When Konami initially opened their TGS website, there were five panels for “coming soon” titles. Over time, however, those boxes have been filled. There is only one other mystery game on the website. It’s not clear if the remaining game will be announced before TGS, although it will be present in a different booth. Konami has also earlier today that a few announces can be expected at the event.

The most wanted anime series based on video games according to Dengeki gamers
Posted on 15 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in General Nintendo, News | 2 Comments
Believe it or not, there actually has been a good amount of anime based on video games. Sure, some anime has seen short runs, but a number of popular titles have been transformed for television programming. What about games that haven’t been produced as anime, though? Dengeki magazine hosted a poll and asked its readers which products they’d like to see make the jump. We’ve posted the results below.
1. Persona 4
2. Phoenix Wright
3. Okami
4. Kingdom Hearts
5. Idol Master
6. Metal Gear Solid
7. Yakuza
8. BlazBlue
9. Persona 3
10. Atelier Rorona
Nintendo opening Mario Club to improve quality of games
Posted on 15 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in General Nintendo, News | 0 comments
Rather than a new game, the Mario Club trademark we posted yesterday is actually a new Nintendo subsidiary, which will be transformed from a preexisting division. What is the point of Mario Club, you ask? The subsidiary will be in charge of playing through and debugging titles in an attempt to improve quality. Also, because Mario Club will be a public company, anyone will be able to purchase stock eventually.
