Nintendo UK has hired Sex and the City star Kim Cattrall to highlight the company’s new commercial for Super Mario 3D Land. The ad, shown in the video above, can be seen on TV starting today.

Vanisha Kavia, Junior Product Manager at Nintendo UK, said:

“The new campaign is all about women having fun. Kim Cattrall is an inspiration for women of all ages; she’s attractive, successful, intelligent and knows how to have fun. Plus, she is a genuine fan of Nintendo! We are really excited to have her involved in our new campaign.”

Kim Cattrall said:

“It has been fabulous to work with Nintendo. I have been playing Nintendo games for years, have often gifted them to my family and have fallen in love with the new Nintendo 3DS and Super Mario 3D Land. I think it’s really important for women to take time out to play and Mario games are so much fun. An added bonus is that my nephew thinks I am the coolest aunty.”

PDP had a bunch of new products on display at E3 2012, a number of which happen to be Nintendo-related. The company was showing off accessories for the Wii U, 3DS, and more. As you’ll see in the gallery above, there are add-ons involving Epic Mickey 2, Scribblenauts Unlimited, and even some Nintendo-themed iPhone cases.

Are you a member of Club Nintendo? Then perhaps you’ve received an email containing an invitation to play Wii U.

Select members are being contacted by Nintendo to play the new console in New York City. Those who are invited can sample the system between June 26 and June 30.

This is a great reward for Club Nintendo members, as those who are given the opportunity to participate can be among the first fans in the world to play Wii U.

Thanks to Mia for the tip.

It seems like the longer I watch this industry progress, the further from me it moves. It is slowly severing its connections with innovation, artistic expression, or even just plain fun. We see fewer games like ‘Flower’ and more games like ‘Call of Duty’. Fewer games like ‘Zelda’ and more games like ‘Darksiders’. Fewer games like ‘Mario Kart’ and more games like ‘Forza’. The longer I look at it, the worse it seems to get. Profits go up, but my enjoyment goes down.

I never really understood why I felt this way- at least not in any tangible, communicable sense- but finally I figured it out. It’s all because of testosterone. It’s all because of that weird, obscure concept of “manliness” as though it is something that even exists, much less is important.
