MCV recently had the opportunity to interview Nintendo UK marketing boss Shelly Pearce. Needless to say, Pearce had a whole lot to say about the Wii U, including the system’s sales, future, price, audience, and more. Some 3DS and 2DS topics were addressed as well.

You can find the full interview at MCV here. There’s also a Q&A roundup after the break.

Yesterday, we were given official confirmation that Deus Ex: Human Revolution – Director’s Cut will cost $50 on Wii U. That’s in spite of the fact that the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions are priced at $30.

Wondering why the price discrepancy exists? Square Enix provided Kotaku with the following statement:

“This is the first time Deus Ex is available on the Wii U. We have an extensive feature set which makes full use of the Wii U GamePad, plus we were able to add exclusive features to the Wii U version which we think Nintendo fans will appreciate and truly immerse them into the world of Deus Ex like never before.”

Nintendo producer Eiji Aonuma commented on a number of wide-ranging topics while speaking with GamesTM this month.

The visual style of Zelda games was one prominent item tackled by Aonuma. He spoke about his personal importance of creating unique-looking games:

When something unexpected happens, the first reaction people have is to be wary.

…I try to make games I work on unique. Not only in terms of gameplay, but also in terms of graphical style. I want the game to be unlike anything I’ve seen anywhere else. Changes to the graphics also help to change preconceived ideas and have a big impact on the gameplay. Because the graphical style can lead to uniqueness like that, I think it really can’t be ignored.

For a few months now, retailers such as Amazon, Best Buy, and GameStop have listed pricing for Deus Ex: Human Revolution – Director’s Cut at $49.99 on Wii U and $29.99 on the PlayStation 3/Xbox 360. As it turns out, this is final.

Square Enix had been previously hesitant to officially reveal the game’s cost, but nothing has changed since retailers put up their original listings. We’ve confirmed with the publisher that the Wii U version will indeed set you back $50, but only $30 on other consoles.

Why the difference in pricing? Other than the fact that Deus Ex: Human Revolution has landed on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 previously, I can’t really think of anything. The experience will be more or less the same across all platforms.

“If any creator has not played Mario, then they’re probably not a good creator. That’s something I can say with 100 percent confidence. Mario is, for game creators, the development bible. There are so many hints about good design, about cute characters, about innovation in using an existing gameplay system. It’s something you have to constantly look at and examine and take hints from as a game creator. It’s the anchor that grounds almost all games.”

“I have total respect for Miyamoto, to the point where… It’s very strange that there are national cultural treasures – they’re traditionally sportsmen. I think it’s very strange that somebody as famous as Miyamoto hasn’t been designated one of those people. He’s talked about in all different countries. Lots of people know him. He’s pushed forward Japanese culture and interest in Japan all over the world. He’s somebody that deserves everyone’s ultimate respect, and a lot of that is due to being able to create Mario. And Super Mario Bros. 3, of course, within that, was a fantastic game.”

– Keiji Inafune

This quote comes as part of a large Super Mario related feature that IGN is putting together where many gaming-industry personalities– Greg Miller, Cliffy B, and Ted Price, for example. You can check that out here.

Ubisoft will not release any Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag DLC on Wii U, the publisher has confirmed.

A season pass was revealed for the game yesterday, but Wii U wasn’t included in the announcement. That was hardly a shocker. However, it’s definitely surprising to see Wii U missing out on all Assassin’s Creed IV DLC given how Assassin’s Creed III was properly supported last year.
