The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds is a sequel to A Link to the Past in every sense of the word. There are plenty of new gameplay elements, of course. But the overworld is mostly the same, and producer Eiji Aonuma has confirmed that the title will include arrangements from the SNES title.

This is something that Aonuma talked about in the latest issue of ONM. He said:

“We will be using arrangements of music from A Link to the Past, since this is a sequel to that game, and we are also trying to make the music sound like it’s played on real instruments. People who know the original will definitely be able to tell and be happy about it, while newcomers will also be able to enjoy it.”

Thanks to joclo for the tip.

Next week, Target will hold a special sale on Wii U games. All titles for the system will be included in a buy 2, get 1 free sale.

Zelda: Wind Waker won’t be a part of the deal unfortunately, as its retail release won’t be available until October 4. Still, you can pick up games such as Pikmin 3, The Wonderful 101, and Rayman Legends.

“You see some small games and say, ‘you’re doing a cheap rip-off of some FPS, I’m going to play Call of Duty instead’. But by going off on a different angle, the more different we are, it’s like OK – this is original, and it’s entertaining, and people are looking for that.”

“The Walking Dead and Journey, for them, I’m really grateful, because they changed the perception, and it’s going to evolve more and more. There’s this perception that if it’s not on a disc or it doesn’t retail for 60 dollars, it’s not worth it. And that mentality is changing. For me Child of Light is as valuable is a 60 dollar game and it’s as long, it’s a long game – more than 10 hours, easily. Just the demo you can play for like an hour, and the demo is the smallest chunk we could do that would show a boss fight.”

We’ve been covering Gears for Breakfast’s fantastic-looking platformer A Hat in Time for a few months now. However, even though it’s been expected to hit Wii U, the game hasn’t actually been confirmed. So what’s the status of a potential eShop version?

Gears for Breakfast director Jonas Kaerlev told us that the studio is “currently in authorization at Nintendo to become a 3rd party developer,” adding that “the kind people at NoA are helping us through the process”. Kaerlev said that once the authorization period is over, the company will “have more to tell about the possibilities”.

Kotaku has compiled a massive feature on Nintendo’s Treehouse localization division. It’s filled with a bunch of incredibly interesting stories, facts, and more. We’ve pulled out a few quotes below, but encourage you to check out the full piece over at Kotaku.

Splinter Cell: Blacklist launched last month in the US. Having been on the market for about a week, the game did fairly well. Total sales were under 300,000, though we don’t have the specifics.

Unfortunately, it would appear that Blacklist did terribly (that may be putting it mildly) on Wii U. According to NeoGAF poster “creamsugar”, who has pretty much always been spot on with NPD data, just 1.6 percent of the title’s sales came from the Wii U version. This would put Blacklist’s Wii U sales under 5,000 – a paltry figure, to be sure.

US sales results for three Nintendo releases in the month of August are in. Mario & Luigi: Dream Team came out on top with 190,000 copies sold (physical and digital), followed by New Super Luigi U at 120,000 units (physical and digital) and Pikmin 3 at 115,000 units.

6.47 million 3DS games have been sold thus far this year. That’s up close to 30 percent year-over-year.

Here’s a listing of 3DS games that have sold at least 250,000 combined copies in 2013 as of now:

Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon (863,000)
Animal Crossing: New Leaf (739,000)
New Super Mario Bros. 2 (406,000 in 2013, 1.85 million total)
Fire Emblem Awakening (390,000)
Mario Kart 7 (352,000 in 2013, 2.84 million total)
Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity (298,000)
Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D (268,000)
Super Mario 3D Land (265,000 in 2013, 2.86 million total)
LEGO City Undercover: The Chase Begins (264,000)

A remake of Zelda: Majora’s Mask was something that had been considered previously for the 3DS. Originally, it sounded like Nintendo was deciding between revisiting that game or doing something new with A Link to the Past. We all know how that turned out now.

The possibility of a Majora’s Mask is still something on gamers’ minds, however. Here’s what Zelda producer Eiji Aonuma said when recently asked about such a title happening:

“Please write that I laughed. Don’t make it sound like I laughed because I was troubled or inconvenienced or put out. I don’t want them to read anything into it. But if you want to say that I laughed, I think that would be a good answer.”

When asked how fans should interpret that, Aonuma said, “it’s really up to them. If they want to interpret my laughter as, ‘yeah, we’re making it’ or ‘no, we’re not,’ I guess that’s really up to them.”
