Zelda producer Eiji Aonuma has fielded a few questions about A Link Between Worlds as part of an IGN interview. Aonuma discussed the game’s art change, cinematic cutscenes, and bracelet seen on Link. You can find a roundup of Aonuma’s comments below.

Ever since the reveal of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD, it’s been known that the remake came about while Nintendo was experimenting with different art styles for the series’ next original entry on Wii U. As it turns out, Wind Waker wasn’t the only title the company tinkered around with. Eiji Aonuma confirmed to Polygon that Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword were also tested in HD.

So what does this mean for the possibility of these two games also receiving Wii U remakes? Zelda producer Eiji Aonuma isn’t ruling anything out, but having just wrapped up Wind Waker HD and now fully turning his attention to Zelda Wii U, there likely won’t be any additional HD releases in the near future. Aonuma wouldn’t necessarily rule anything out for the future though, telling Polygon:

“I can’t say that the possibility is zero that those will be made into HD, but right now I need to work on the next installation in the series so I don’t have the bandwidth to do that right now. But maybe it will happen if someone else does it.”

Here’s a question: would you like to see Twilight Princess and/or Skyward Sword in HD? If you had to choose one or the other, which would you pick?

Eiji Aonuma may be in charge of the Zelda series for the most part, but Shigeru Miyamoto is still around as a significant member of the team. In fact, Aonuma feels that Miyamoto is still “the most important user for the Zelda games before their release.”

Aonuma recently spoke about Miyamoto’s importance to the development of Zelda titles with ONM:

“I think that Miyamoto is the most important user for the Zelda games before their release. How he sees the games is a guide for us in terms of whether what we are making is any good, including whether it is right for Zelda, because users will be sure to judge them even more harshly after the release.”

Aonuma also discussed a dream of his – to hear Miyamoto say, “I couldn’t make a game like this.”

“A long time ago I came up with the phrase ‘upending the tea table’ for him, but recently there haven’t been any big upendings, so maybe that’s proof that I’ve come closer to his vision. My dream is to have Miyamoto say to me, ‘This is amazing. I couldn’t make a game like this,’ but there’s still a long way to go. I will keep trying my best.”

The interviews with Eiji Aonuma continue to pour in. MTV Multiplayer has also just put up a piece with Aonuma covering Zelda: Wind Waker HD and plenty of other topics. Among the items discussed include keeping Wind Waker’s art style a secret from Miyamoto, origins of the cel-shaded visuals, concept design for GameCube Island, Tingle Tuner, and Link’s appearance in Super Smash Bros. Brawl.

Nintendo has previously spoken about making Zelda accessible. This is something that was discussed even prior to the reveal of Skyward Sword. And it’s something that Zelda producer Eiji Aonuma is striving for, though he’s not looking to lessen the experience.

Speaking with IGN, Aonuma said the following when asked if he’s trying to reintroduce any themes given how long the 3D Zeldas have been around:

“That’s a tough one. Well, for us, when we’re developing a new Zelda, we’re not necessarily focused on which target audience we’re aimed at. We definitely think about who the target audience is, but we’re not focused on a specific age range or specific gender. What we want is a wide audience, so that this game is open and accessible to as wide an audience as possible and everyone enjoys it.”

“I think there’s been a tendency lately to see games as more focused in on a specific audience or a specific age. We’re seeing that range of interest in a game become narrower as we feel like we’re forced to make a game that appeals to a certain group. If we don’t make it appeal to a teenager, then it’s not a game that they’re going to mark off on their calendar.”

“What I want to do going forward is to find that balance, where the game appeals to a wide audience, but is still true to what we’re trying to create. That’s the challenge for us, trying to find that balance. Going forward, I want to make Zelda accessible to a wide audience. It’s trying to find that direction and the vehicle through which we can accomplish that goal that’s the challenge we face every day in development.”

Another interview with Eiji Aonuma has gone live. USGamer has spoken with the Zelda producer about Wind Waker HD, A Link Between Worlds, and a few general topics such as previous comments he made about capturing the feeling of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.

You can find a few excerpts below. There’s even more over at USGamer.

Mighty Switch Force! 2 wasn’t always planned for Wii U. WayForward’s James Montagna told Siliconera that the Wii U version came about due to fan feedback.

Montagna said:

“On Miiverse, the Mighty Switch Force community has been very vocal about bringing Mighty Switch Force 2 to the Wii U. We had no intentions of bringing it to the Wii U, originally. [Mighty Switch Force: Hyperdrive Edition] was an experiment, something we just wanted to try out—but [because of feedback] we are bringing Mighty Switch Force 2 to the Wii U. We caved.”

Interestingly, it sounds like Mighty Switch Force! 2 will adopt a unique style on Wii U. According to Montagna, ” it won’t be quite like Hyperdrive Edition”.

“It’s a pixel version of the game with high-definition interstitial screens, so it won’t be quite like Hyperdrive Edition or anything like that.”

Mighty Switch Force! is tentatively scheduled to arrive on Nintendo’s console in October.
