Rupees haven’t exactly had a great importance in Zelda games. In most cases, they haven’t been crucial to the main gameplay. In Zelda: A Link Between Worlds, however, collecting rupees “will be more important than ever”.

Producer Eiji Aonuma told ONM this month:

“Collecting rupees, the currency of the Zelda world, will be very important in this game. You might think that was the case with all the past games too, but I must say that this time it will be more important than ever and you will need to collect a great deal of them.”

There’s a very good chance that rupees will have a strong tie-in to the game’s shop. In a Miiverse post last month, Aonuma wrote:

“Shops in the past Zelda games sold things that would run out once you use them like arrows and bombs, items that needed replenishing. They have never sold an item that doesn’t go away after each use like the boomerang or the hookshot.”

So perhaps main items will leave your inventory after a certain number of uses? Players would then need to use their rupees to repurchase arrows and bombs, the boomerang, etc.

The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD will be hitting North America on October 4, it has been confirmed. A general October timeframe had been announced previously.

The official date comes from a press release sent out earlier today regarding the Symphony of the Goddesses concert tour.

Zelda: Wind Waker HD will also be hitting Europe on October 4. It’ll be hitting Japan on September 26.

Platinum Games and Nintendo teamed up for the first time while creating The Wonderful 101. Because the two companies didn’t have much contact in the past, both maintained certain assumptions about the other.

On Platinum’s side, director Hideki Kamiya thought Nintendo “would be very business-like” and was a bit surprised as to “how human” the company was. Meanwhile, according to Nintendo producer Hitoshi Yamagami, the Big N assumed Kamiya would be “scary”.

A discussion in the latest Iwata Asks goes into further detail about Nintendo and Platinum’s initial working relationship:

Level-5 announced a new Layton game during its “Vision” event in Japan just a short while ago. However, this isn’t the same kind of Professor Layton that fans have come to love.

What Level-5 CEO Akihiro Hino demonstrated was a RPG puzzle game. Not much about the project was said, but we do know that it’s coming to the 3DS and iOS/Android.

We’ll have the first brief footage of Layton 7 shortly.

Level-5 announced a new game titled “Wonder Flick” during its Vision event in Japan today… and it’s coming out on almost every major platform.

Wonder Flick is a brand new touch-centric RPG with some pretty major talent. Level 5 CEO Akihiro Hino is directing, Nobuo Uematsu is working on the game’s music, Nao Ikeda is in charge of character designs, and Takuz? Nagano from the Professor Layton franchise is designing boss creatures.

It sounds like save data can be shared between platforms. Additionally, each version will apparently have its own unique dungeon.

Wonder Flick is scheduled to launch on Wii U, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, PS Vita, Xbox One, and iOS/Android. It’s due out on mobile platforms this November, followed by dedicated gaming platforms in 2014.

Shadow of the Eternals’ Kickstarter campaign ended a number of hours ago unsuccessfully. The game was unable to secure enough funding, having raised a little over $300,000 of the $750,000 goal.

Precursor Games has previously hinted that the studio will continue looking into development even if the Kickstarter failed, and in a new message, confirmed this to be so.

The company wrote on Kickstarter:

“It is unfortunate that we were unable to crowd-fund this project at this time, but we have not given up. We intend to pursue other avenues with the ultimate goal of having our games come to fruition. Please feel free to migrate over to our Community Forums at www.precursorgames.com/forums, as we will be keeping our forums open for people to enjoy and discuss everything Precursor Games.”

Shadow of the Eternals has not been funded on Kickstarter. $323,950 was raised out of the required $750,000 total – not even 50 percent.

Despite the disappointing news, developer Precursor Games will likely pursue Shadow of the Eternals’ development. The team previously expressed interest in continuing efforts on the project even if the Kickstarter goal wasn’t met.

This wasn’t Precursor’s first go around with Kickstarter. An original campaign kicked off in May, but was eventually pulled. Changes were made including the removal of an episodic format, the addition of David Hayter as a voice actor, and a lower crowdfunding target.

Shadow of the Eternals has been officially targeted for the Wii U and PC, with a possible PS4 version in the pipeline as well.

zelda_wind_waker_hd_wii_u_bundle

A now-pulled trailer for The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD confirms rumors of a Wii U bundle. The package will come with a 32GB console and a copy of the game.

Perhaps best of all is the special design included on the GamePad. There’s a small chance that it’s a decal, but given how Nintendo approaches its limited edition 3DS releases, it’s likely embedded right in. You can get a look at the controller through the image above.
