Next Level excited about working on more Nintendo IPs, Dark Moon producer interested in Zelda/Mario
Posted on 11 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in General Nintendo, News, Podcast Stories | 0 comments
Next Level Games is now one of Nintendo’s most-reliable western developers. The studio completed arguably its best game ever in Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon, but previously worked on Punch-Out!! and the Mario Strikes titles.
Discussing the series of “steps” Next Level took as the team worked on new Nintendo projects, Dark Moon producer Ken Yeeloy said:
“Haha, it kind of feels like that! I think we’ve also been tagged in some circles as the ones who can revive old Nintendo franchises. I think we’ve solidified our studio’s ability to collaborate with Nintendo to create high quality games. I am certainly excited to see what IPs we get to work on next!”
And when asked what Next Level would like to work on assuming they had the choice, Yeeloy commented:
“Really, we are grateful to work on any Nintendo IP but if there are any wish-granting entities listening out there, we would love a chance to work on a Zelda or Mario game!”
Rumor: All three of Nintendo’s exclusive Sonic games due out this year
Posted on 11 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in 3DS, Podcast Stories, Rumors, Wii U | 0 comments
Nintendo has a deal in place with SEGA for three Sonic titles. Two have been revealed thus far: Sonic Lost World and Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games. These games, along with a third unannounced project, are allegedly launching this year.
In a press release covering the recent Sonic Lost World news, Nintendo of Germany stated:
“Today, they (Sega) revealed further details of the second of three titles, which the two companies will release exclusively on Wii U and 3DS. All three games will be released this year.”
I’m having a difficult time believing this. Mario & Sonic seems like a game suited for 2014, and we have yet to see the third Sonic game. Stranger things have happened, though!

Nintendo’s E3 2013 Nintendo Direct will be an hour long
Posted on 11 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in General Nintendo, News, Podcast Stories | 0 comments
Nintendo’s E3 presentations have typically lasted around an hour or so. That will be the case once again this year, despite the fact that the company won’t be hosting a large-scale conference.
Nintendo’s E3 Nintendo Direct, airing on June 11, will indeed be an hour long. This is confirmed through the Big N’s newly-opened E3 site. If you click the “Add it to your calender button”, you’ll find that the broadcast is set to take place between 10 AM ET / 7 AM PT and 11 AM ET / 8 PM PT.
That should be plenty of time to show off brand new Wii U titles – and hopefully some 3DS stuff as well.
Precursor Games’ Shawn Jackson says Shadow of the Eternals will probably not be completed if the Kickstarter fails
Posted on 11 years ago by Austin(@NE_Austin) in News, Podcast Stories, Wii U, Wii U eShop | 0 comments
During an AMA (“ask me anything”) on reddit last night, Precursor Games executive Shawn Jackson was asked whether or not we could see Shadow of the Eternals (a spiritual successor to Gamecube hit Eternal Darkness) come out even if the Kickstarter didn’t reach his goal. His response:
– Precursor exec Shawn Jackson
As their campaign has only reached $270,000 of their $1.5M goal, things aren’t looking great for the project as it stands right now. Unless something big happens and people get on board, we probably won’t see a spiritual sequel to Eternal Darkness anytime soon, despite how much clamoring we had for one.
Spector: Underestimate Nintendo at your peril; considering future opportunities
Posted on 11 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in General Nintendo, News, Podcast Stories, Wii U | 0 comments
In an interview with GameSpot, Deus Ex and Epic Mickey designer Warren Spector weighed in on the Wii U’s struggles over the past few months.
Spector made note of his enthusiasm for Nintendo, and said that “you underestimate them at your peril.”
Spector stated:
“I’ve been pretty upfront about my enthusiasm for Nintendo. I think we need a company that’s dedicated to games. Every time I visit Nintendo, I’m relieved to have spent time in a place where you can just feel how much everyone loves games. And, really, how many times have people written Nintendo off? I think you underestimate them at your peril.”
