Wii U sales see huge increase on Amazon UK

Perhaps due to the negative reception of the Xbox One, Wii U sales have seen a huge sales increase on Amazon UK.
Prior to Microsoft’s announcement, the Wii U was slumping at the 390th position. It has since climbed to the 40th position with an 875 percent increase.
Are the boost in Wii U sales related to the Xbox One? I’m not ready to draw any conclusions, but the significant increase is certainly interesting.
Thanks to KIDNINTENDO for the tip.

Update 2: Pokemon Company president and CEO Tsunekazu Ishihara and Game Freak director Junichi Masuda are attending.
Update: Kotaku editor Jason Schreier has a few more details. It’s a Pokemon X/Y presentation/Q&A. Time is set for 6 PM PT. Schreier also says that “Nintendo is doing a lot of different E3 events.”
Nintendo won’t be holding a typical press conference at this year’s E3, but the company has scheduled a number of different events for the show.
One happening appears to be a special Pokemon presentation. This will take place during the first night of E3 and will be 1.5 hours long, according to media reports.
Also during E3 are two different hands-on events: one for the media and one for analysts/other business folks. A Nintendo Direct broadcast will be live-streamed on June 11 as well.

Capcom cancels Resident Evil “blood swimming pool” event in London

A couple of weeks ago, Capcom announced plans to host a “blood swimming pool” event in London. The company hoped to promote the new release of Resident Evil: Revelations while hosting an enjoyable happening for fans.
This was set to take place over the weekend, but has since been cancelled due to the tragic events that took place in the UK yesterday.
Capcom said in a statement:
“In light of yesterday’s sad events we’re cancelling our Revelations pool event. Thank you for your understanding.”
This is probably for the best. It just wouldn’t have made sense to host this given what happened.

Fire Emblem: Awakening could have been series’ last entry if sales were poor
Posted on 11 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in 3DS, News, Podcast Stories | 0 comments
Prior to Fire Emblem: Awakening, you could say that the series was in decline. Sales of the previous games had been decreasing, and Nintendo didn’t even bother localizing the final DS title.
So had Awakening not been a success, the franchise could have been put on hold. Nintendo’s sale manager had actually told the team that the 3DS release could be the last Fire Emblem if it saw poor sales.
Producer Hitoshi Yamagami told Hobby Consola in an interview:
“No doubt. Truth be told, sales are dropping. The sales manager of Nintendo, Mr. Hatano, told us that this could be the last Fire Emblem. Due to this progressive descend on sales, they told us that if the sales of this episode stayed below 250,000 copies, we’d stop working on the saga. I remember when I came back from the meeting and told the team ‘My God, what are we gonna do?! The end has come!’. Our reaction was clear: if this was going to be the last Fire Emblem, we had to put everything we always wanted to include. That’s how this new project was born!”

EA working on Wii U games after all?
Posted on 11 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in News, Podcast Stories, Wii U | 0 comments
EA may not have ceased Wii U development all together as initially thought, based on new comments from the company.
Speaking at the Stifel Nicolaus 2013 Internet, Media and Communications Conference today, EA chief financial officer Blake Jorgensen noted that the publisher does have content in the works for the Wii U, but not as many titles as PlayStation and Xbox consoles.
Jorgensen also said the following about Wii U during the event:
“You know, I think Nintendo’s business was more [an] extension of their last console. I think what the consumer will find is a lot more powerful gameplay with the new boxes that are coming out, and a lot of excitement, but it’ll remain to be seen as to the services associated with those as to how consumers decide which direction they might want to go.”
