Well, despite being delayed once, the 3DS firmware update actually came a couple of days early than expected, giving us 3DS owners plenty of new content to chew on over the coming months. Currently mine is in the process of downloading, and it’s taking its sweet time to do so; I think I’ve had it running for nearly fifteen minutes! I suppose it’s fair, given the amount of content we’re getting, but golly, I didn’t expect to wait this long at all! The big question: What are we all most excited about?

Personally, I think it’s a tie between Find Mii 2 and the stop-motion video creator. I’ve always been a fan of artistic mediums, and I find stop motion to be one of the most entertaining ones to create and share, so the fact that I’ll be able to do it in 3D (albeit with a shoddy camera) is pretty neat. A close second would have to be Find Mii 2, which gives me yet another reason to keep my 3DS in my pocket at all times. Admittedly, I haven’t been even bothering to streetpass since I beat both minigames back in August, so I’m extremely excited to have it passing away again!

Which new features are you most excited for? Have you had the chance to try them out yet? Also, am I the only one who actually enjoys searching for puzzle pieces more than playing Find Mii?

Have any of you tested the video recording feature as of yet? If so, what do you think?

Japanese 3DS owners have been given an extra treat along with tonight’s system update, as the first round of demos are now available. There are trial versions for Monster Hunter Tri G, Cooking Mama 4, Puyo Puyo, Crayon Shin-chan 3DS, Dead or Alive: Dimensions, and a few others on the eShop. Hopefully overseas gamers will see some demos soon as well!

New 3DS update is live

Update: Should be good to go for everyone now!

The latest 3DS firmware has gone live around the world. Users have been reporting that they’ve gone through the download process in North America, the UK, Australia, and Japan. Please be patient, though: some 3DS owners are saying that they’re encountering an error when attempting to download the firmware. Nintendo is likely pushing it out to everyone gradually.

The upgrade brings in a slew of new features/improvements, most notably video recording functionality for the 3DS Camera application.

The full list of changes are as follows:

  1. 3D Video, and 3D Stop Motion animation videos
  2. QR code functionality will be improved
  3. Transfer game files between Nintendo 3DS systems
  4. New puzzles and extra Find Mii Dungeon
  5. eShop will be expanded as well, you’ll soon have access to game demos (for both downloadable games and retail games)
  6. You’ll be able to download software while your system is in Sleep Mode
  7. The eShop will also support Download Codes (which will be used primarily for special promotions) and will enable users to save payment information to their system if they so so desire
  8. The update will add a new application to your system’s Home Menu:”Nintendo Zone” active when you’re at a Nintendo 3DS hotspot location. Provides free access to exclusive content, streaming 3D videos (such as game trailers, tv ads) trivia games, and retail promotions

This is something that I’ve experienced, but I figured my 3DS was acting up for some odd reason. I also considered that I was going crazy.

Here’s the problem: it seems that Mario Kart 7 is causing some sort of sound glitch. This will only happen after putting your system in sleep mode. Once you open your 3DS, you might not hear anything at all.

To fix the issue, you can try putting your system back into sleep mode and reopening it. Rebooting the software will work, too. Since this is something that could be affecting a large amount of users, perhaps Nintendo can look into sending out a patch.

Let us know if you’ve encountered the problem in the comments below!
