The Story that Became a Legend Now in 3D
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D brings a completely re-mastered version of this epic entry in the beloved The Legend of Zelda series to the Nintendo 3DS system. The game couples phenomenally enhanced graphics with stunning glasses-free 3D visuals to bring to life the daring adventures of its hero, Link™, in the epic tale of the creation of Hyrule and the struggle for control of its all-powerful ancient relic. A streamlined touch-screen interface and newly implemented motion controls give the game a fresh and intuitive feel. The game will also feature new challenges not included in the original game, as well as a newly implemented hint system to help novice players experience all that the game has to offer. Players who finish the main story can look forward to the Master Quest – a second quest with revamped puzzles and redesigned dungeons that feature the same graphical and interface upgrades as the main game. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D is a masterful improvement on one of the landmark moments in video gaming history.

Nintendo’s Japanese division have released a handful of new The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D screenshots. I admit, I’ve never used a poorly-worded catch phrase as the title to a review before. Other sites seem to do this endlessly, (“Can Zelda slash its way to victory?”, “Will Mario need steroids for his latest sports title?”) yet I’ve never found it to be quite in my taste. For some reason this week I’m feeling different, because (as you can see) there is a magnificent use of puns in the title of this review, if only to allow myself a very easy segue. “How?”, you ask? It’s simple: PilotWings: Resort is not a crash landing, but it’s also no cruise-level flyer.

When I begrudgingly lugged myself down to one of my local GameStops to finally trade in some old Wii games for PilotWings: Resort, I was a little bit… erm… “miffed”. I mean, after all the hype we had seen surrounding the launch of Nintendo’s new handheld, there really wasn’t much to be had in terms of launch titles. Sure, Nintendo had Steel Diver, PilotWings, and some game about animals (elephants, if I recall), but aside from one or two select games, nothing seemed worth even a passing glance. So, needless to say, the thought of trading in 6 games for 1 wasn’t the most appealing one I had had in the last few months. Bottom line? Bleck.

Still, after a few minutes of getting everything traded (and being surprised that I got a lot more than I had expected), I made the purchase, alongside Street Fighter 4 3D, and headed back home to play them.

Tecmo Koei made a surprising announcement at Nintendo’s January 3DS conference that Dead or Alive: Dimensions would feature a stage from Other M. Yosuke Hayashi quickly clarified that Samus isn’t a playable character in the game, though he noted that the Metroid star does make an appearance as the battle takes place in the level.

Hayashi never truly explained why Samus isn’t playable in the title – until now. Speaking to IGN, Team Ninja’s boss said the team decided to include the Other M stage to celebrate the release of the first Dead or Alive game on a Nintendo platform, but wanted to make sure that the roster was comprised strictly of characters known to the series. As a result, it was not possible to add in any sort of new or guest character.

“Obviously this is the first DOA for a Nintendo platform. We wanted to commemorate this occasion with something so we decided to feature a stage crossover with Other M. The footage we released for this was a bit confusing because it didn’t allow us to show our true intentions behind having this stage in there. One thing about Samus as a playable character — for DOAD our aim was to have a compilation of DOA characters so we purposely left out any new or guest characters in the game. Samus is a lone bounty hunter and protector of the galaxy so we thought it would be better to let her focus on her job rather than kicking everyone’s butt in DOAD.”
