? 2009-10 targets revised downwards
? Releases of Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Conviction™ and R.U.S.E™ postponed to 2010-11
? Initial information on the 2010-11 line-up
Paris, January 13, 2010 – Today, Ubisoft updated its 2009-10 targets. The sales targets for third-quarter and full-year 2009-10 have been revised downwards to €495 million and around €860 million respectively, from the previously announced figures of €540 million and €1,040 million.
These downward revisions are due to the following factors:
– A further correction in the market for DS titles. After several years of very strong growth, the significant correction of the DS market in 2009 particularly affected Ubisoft. As a result, despite relatively robust sales for Wii casual games, and particularly the success of Just Dance, sales in the casual segment are expected to be down for the full year by around €160 million, representing a drop of around 50%.

Reggie: Wii successor not happenning anytime soon

“We are confident the Wii home entertainment console has a very long life in front of it.” – Reggie Fils-Aime
With the Wii selling the way it is, it wouldn’t make sense for Nintendo to release a successor to the console in the near future. The only possibility I can see happening is something like Wii HD, but Reggie essentially shot down that possibility a few months ago. But, who knows. Perhaps Nintendo will surprise us all and announce something at this year’s E3.
Bloober believes a core audience exists on Wii, quality impact game sales
Posted on 15 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in News, Wii | 3 Comments
“With such a strong install base it’s hard to believe that there’s not enough people to appreciate mature, core content. It’s all about games and quality. I’m not surprised that another shooter on rails doesn’t sell well. You don’t need to be a rocket scientist to figure out that people expect something more than that..I bet No More Heroes 2 will do pretty good, as well as the new Metroid and Capcom’s Monster Hunter. I hope that Last Flight will be successful and that’s because we’re making a game that was thought out as a Wii game. Instead of bitching, we’d rather create something that has value and doesn’t feel like a third-rate port put together to make a quick buck.
Was it the right decision to develop a game on Wii? Should we make it less violent? Are we gonna sell enough copies to pay our bills? You know, typical questions, nothing unusual here. And while we love and respect Capcom and Pachter, we wouldn’t go that far and say that mature stuff doesn’t sell or that it’s the platform holder’s fault. Our logic is far simpler: if the game doesn’t sell, we did something wrong.” – executive producer Marcin Kawa
I personally don’t believe that a high-quality Wii title will always sales, but it definitely has some sort of impact. It’ll be interesting to see how Bloober’s upcoming WiiWare title, Last Flight, performs after hearing these remarks. According to Kawa, if it doesn’t sell, then the company did something wrong with the title.
