Shigeru Miyamoto has been working very hard on Pikmin 3 in order to help boost the relatively slow sales on the Wii U, and he has a very clear idea on some of the things that went wrong so far and on how the situation might improve, as he explained in part of an interview on the Japanese website 4Gamer.
In a wide-ranging interview with Japanese publication 4Gamer, Shigeru Miyamoto discussed the Wii U’s struggles, delayed games, and more. An official English translation isn’t available, but DualShockers has translated a few bits.
First, here’s what Miyamoto said about the Wii U’s slow start:

Asda drops Wii U price for a second time
Posted on 11 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in News, Wii U | 0 comments
Update: Just to be clear, reader Craig tells us that after contacting the retailer, they explained that the price reduction was initiated due to a lack of profit from the stock and needing to make back some money. So this wasn’t so much a move to boost Wii U sales as it was to help out Asda.
Just as it did in May, Asda has dropped the Wii U’s price for a second time. It’s a pretty major cut – the Premium Set is now available for £199. The Basic Set, on the other hand, is just £149.99.
This isn’t a universal official price drop, but it goes to show that retailers are more than willing to host a big sale for the Wii U in light of struggling sales.
