Wii U

Update: Eurogamer published the following notice clarifying Sumo’s graphics comments:

“We’ve updated the headline of this article to better reflect the content of the story. Sega was referring to the visuals of Sonic and Sega All-Stars Racing Transformed on Wii U compared to the visuals of the other versions, not the graphics capabilities of the Wii U itself. Sorry for the confusion this has caused.”

Sumo Digital is currently working on Sonic and All-Stars Racing Transformed for Wii U. Asked about the console’s graphics, the studio said they’re “on-par” with current-gen systems, adding that they could be “even better”.

Other news from Sumo concerns a special character inclusion in Sonic and All-Stars Racing Transformed. The Wii U edition as well as the portable version for 3DS will exclusively support Miis.

New Super Mario Bros. 2 costs a heck of a lot on the Australian eShop. Pricing is set at $69.95 AU, which would be roughly $73.37 USD.

It’s true that this is the recommended retail price at most stores, but quite a few have been offering the title for under $60 AU.

At E3, Warner Bros. Interactive showed Batman with a new Armored Suit. This allows him to build kinetic energy in battle and eventually unleash more devastating blows.

Batman isn’t the only character that can wear the new suit. Reconfirmed at Gamescom 2012 today, Catwoman also makes use of the armor. Take a look at the first render of the character in the suit above.

Just as it did at E3, Ubisoft brought along a Wii U build of Assassin’s Creed III to Gamescom 2012. The playable demo features some of the game’s naval combat.

Creative director Alex Hutchinson says that with the new system, “all consoles for once are the same.”

“We’re showing that everything is pretty much the same. It’s exciting for me that all consoles for once are the same. Between PC, 360, PS3 and Wii U, they’re the same game. We’re just showing everyone that everything’s fine. There’s no need to worry. Every platform you buy it on will be great.”

Lead designer Steven Masters echoed similar statements:

“It’s the same assets and the same engine. The guys in Quebec have been porting it for quite a long time. It’s completely equable.”

Masters also explained some of the unique features included in the Wii U version of Assassin’s Creed III:

“We’ve got a couple of things. First, we just display the map by default. Then for the weapon selection you have quick access using the touch-pad to select exactly what weapons and tools you want to use.”

Wii U will have achievements on a game-by-game basis. While they aren’t mandatory for developers, it’s possible that there will be an all-encompassing system called “Wii U Accomplishments”.

That speculation comes from the image above. It’s a snapshot from the Project Cars “Career Design Document” from May.

Nintendo hasn’t said too much about achievements on Wii U. But for what it’s worth, the StreetPass Mii Plaza on the 3DS does have its own set of accomplishments.
