Wii U

Masahiro Sakurai has let loose on a few vague details on the next Super Smash Bros. games.

First, Sakurai quickly talked about the game’s controls, teasing that the team “will look into ways that fits the Wii U.”

“The GameCube controller is not the only way to control Smash Bros., so we will look into ways that fits the Wii U.”

Sakurai also touched on change for the series. He’d prefer not to add in gimmicks in order to make the next entries different from previous games. At the same time, he hopes to “introduce a slightly different, fun experience all the while keeping the usual frantic game play.”

“The game system itself is complete, so we don’t want to make it 3D or introduce complicated controls just for the sake of it. However, I am thinking of ways we can introduce a slightly different, fun experience all the while keeping the usual frantic game play.”

Finally, Sakurai discussed third-party characters. He believes Snake and Sonic were “fantastic” additions in Brawl, and seems to be overall open to the idea of bringing in characters from other companies.  However, Sakurai did note that he must “narrow it down” since “introducing more non-Nintendo characters willy-nilly will lose the focus of the game”.

“I think Snake and Sonic joining were fantastic. It made many fans happy, and it broadened the Smash Bros arena. However, introducing more non-Nintendo characters willy-nilly will lose the focus of the game, so I also recognise the need to narrow it down.”

Players experiencing Dragon Quest X should be aware of one very important tidbit. Square Enix’s FAQ section for the game says that users may lose their character data if they do not log in for online play for over three months.

When you think about it, this decision does make sense. It would be a bit pointless keeping that sort of data on the servers if it isn’t being accessed. By removing the character information for active players, it may help the servers’ workload.

Darksiders II has a “Crucible” mode which provides players with arena challenges. This can be unlocked after “Death has been deemed worthy”.

When the 3DS was announced, Capcom threw a ton of support Nintendo’s way. Right off the bat the company revealed Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition and Resident Evil: Revelations. And it wasn’t long before Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D was made public.

Capcom’s support for Nintendo’s latest system, the Wii U, has been much different this time around. It has yet to confirm one title for the new console.

This may be a bit concerning for some, but Capcom does few “some good stuff” in the pipeline. On the company’s official forum, Capcom’s Christian Svensson teased:

“Some good stuff is coming and I’d love to tell you more… but for now, I have to keep it a surprise. Sorry.”

GameTrailers editor in chief Shade Satterfield predicted a $299 price tag for Wii U on a recent episode of Invisible Walls. During the same show, Satterfield also praised Assassin’s Creed III and teased an unannounced game that could launch alongside the new console.

Regarding Assassin’s Creed III, Satterfield believes that the console version looks best on Wii U. He’s played the game on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 as well. Assassin’s Creed III’s visuals, paired with “added functionality” make it a worthwhile Wii U launch title for Satterfield:

“I’m definitely getting Assassin’s Creed III. And like Mike said, I’ve seen pretty much all three versions at this point. To me, the Wii U version looks the best. It also has added functionality, so that would probably be the one game I’d buy with the Wii U, would be Assassin’s Creed III.”

Satterfield could be picking up a second game for Wii U this holiday season. The thing is, it hasn’t been announced yet, and it isn’t set in stone for launch.

Satterfield teased:

“There’s another game that might make launch that hasn’t been announced yet that maybe I would buy for it. But I can’t really mention that.”
