Designer/Team Meat’s Edmund McMillen on how the WiiWare version would have been gimped…

“There is no way to avoid the fact that if we released a 40MB version of Super Meat Boy it would be a shit version of the game. It’s a lose lose situation, but the fact of the matter is if we release a shitty game, we will have to live with that for the rest of our careers and have to cop to the fact that it is a shitty game.”

McMillen discussing the file size limit on WiiWare…

“We knew of the limits early on but overestimated our ability to get Nintendo to raise the file size. It’s lame that there is a 40MB cap on WiiWare games … but it was our fault for blindly assuming this cap wasn’t set in stone, and we are sorry for that.”

Believe it or not, the commercial above can now be seen on Japanese televisions. This certainly bodes well for future advertising for The Last Story. After all, if Nintendo is willing to run a commercial just for a presentation, one would think that they’re ready to really push the game in Japan.

“Notice: #thelaststory has been completed. The completion date is not exactly today…but it has been finished. (H. Sakaguchi)”

Sakaguchi also tweeted on his own Japanese Twitter account that The Last Story has been in development for three and a half years. However, the concept for the game was born almost four years ago. For a project that has been in development so long, one would hope that The Last Story lives up to fans’ expectations! Likewise, I’m sure Sakaguchi is hoping that the title sells well and that it is well received.

This information comes from CEO Alex Neuse, who shared the following information with EGM…

“We are working on a [3DS] title that – cross your fingers – will be out within the launch window. That’s not going to be an easy task.”

Neuse also told the magazine that the Bit.Trip series will not end with Bit.Trip Flux, though he has nothing specific to share as of yet.

This information comes from the Super Meat Boy Twitter…

“ATTENTION: there will not be a Wiiware version of SMB. we are looking in to retail Wii, bit its also looking grim. still looking though. no publishers we talk to say wii retail doesnt make enough money for them to invest. there is still a chance, i dont want to say no till we know for sure there is no chance of it happening”

Man, it’s unbelievable what has happened with the WiiWare version of Super Meat Boy. I feel like the game was announced for the platform ages ago! Xbox 360 owners have been playing it for a couple of months now while Wii owners aren’t even sure if they will be eventually be able to purchase the title. Going to retail really does seem like the only other possible option, but things aren’t looking promising.

I’m hijacking the site for 2 seconds here because I just noticed something really quite silly. And because I know I can do it without getting in trouble. But mostly the first reason.

As I was updating our sister site, GamingEverything, I noticed yet another post about gamers complaining that their Call of Duty: Black Ops copies aren’t working online, despite numerous patches by Treyarch attempting to fix the issues. Every time I’ve posted these types of posts, I never really paid much mind because I personally have had no issues with the online in the game, but then I also realized: No one is really complaining about the Wii version. All the bugs are in the PS360 version of the game!

Sort of ironic considering how the Wii is generally considered an inherently worse piece of online tech… Anyone here experiencing major Wii Black Ops problems? Do you also find it sort of funny that the Wii version works fine? Discuss with me, my lovely readers.
