Rumor: Retro working on “new brand”
Posted on 12 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in Podcast Stories, Rumors, Wii U | 0 comments
E3 2013 may finally be where we are given a first look at Retro Studios’ Wii U game. Nothing is guaranteed, but Nintendo’s Hiro Yamada did tease last month that he “hope[s] to introduce it to you in the not so distant future.”
As far as what Retro is working on, that’s pretty much anyone’s guess. However, IGN’s Peer Schneider did offer up potential insight during a Nintendo Voice Chat” feature (24:17 mark).
He said, “I’ve heard rumors that Retro’s game is a new brand.”
This seems to imply that Retro is working on a new IP, but nothing is set in stone, and the wording is slightly nebulous. Here’s hoping that Nintendo will finally pull back the curtain on the company’s project next month.
GameFly: New Adventure Time game launching in November
Posted on 12 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in Rumors, Wii U | 0 comments
Last week, D3Publisher revealed “Adventure Time: Explore the Dungeon Because I DON’T KNOW!”. The announcement did not offer up a release date – only a vague “fall” window was provided.
According to a listing on GameFly, the new Adventure Time will be available on November 12. That’s not official, but it’s the only thing we have to go on at the moment. Plus, last year’s Adventure Time did ship in November as well.
Sumo Digital tweets hinting at some kind of Mario/Sonic racing crossover?
Posted on 12 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in General Nintendo, Rumors | 0 comments

SEGA is working in partnership with Nintendo on three Sonic games: Sonic Lost World, Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games, and an unannounced project. Could that last one be some kind of racer from Sumo Digital, the maker of Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed?
Sumo executive producer Steve Lycett sent out a few very interesting tweets last month. Lycett’s messages allude to the fact that he’d like to follow-up Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed with a new game that “could finally settle some arguments” such as “Who’s really win a kart race”. When one user mentioned a Pac-Man World Rally crossover, Lycett said he “was thinking there are bigger rivals” – like Mario and Sonic, maybe?
I can imagine two possibilities: a completely brand new game involving Mario and Sonic, or some kind of appearance in Mario Kart’s new Wii U outing. On the other hand, it’s possible that this is nothing at all and we’re completely looking into things.
Thanks to Jake for the tip.
Rumor: A couple of Sonic Lost World tidbits, more news on May 29
Posted on 12 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in 3DS, Rumors, Wii U | 0 comments
SEGA may have let a couple details slip about Sonic Lost World through its official Sonic Facebook page.
Three images are rumored to have been shown on the page while more information had been promised for May 29. The first photo described sounds quite a bit like the official artwork piece released today. Another image, Sonic Stadium writes, “is said to have featured the outline of six ‘guardians’ from the game who may be friends or foes.”
One reader tip sent to Sonic Stadium reads:
Leaked Famitsu scan reveals a few returning characters in Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Dual Destinies
Posted on 12 years ago by Patrick(@Patricklous) in 3DS, 3DS eShop, News, Rumors | 1 Comment
Wow, there really has been a lot of news about Ace Attorney 5 making the rounds lately. Just yesterday we we reporting about the game’s localisation and earlier today the game’s Tokyo Game Show demo was made playable online (only in Japanese, naturally). Now a rather legitimate-looking Famitsu scan is showing off a couple of familiar faces that are set to make a return appearance. Unless you want to surprise yourself when the game releases later this year, head on over the break to check it out.
2K Sports apparently confirms no WWE 2K14 for Wii U
Posted on 12 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in Podcast Stories, Rumors, Wii U | 1 Comment
A portion of a Eurogamer article seems to confirm that WWE 2K14 won’t be heading to the Wii U.
2K Sports told the site that the wrestling game will be launching on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, but “the game will again skip Wii U” – just like WWE ’13.
Eurogamer’s Wii U comment comes after the PS3/360 remark, so it’s not entirely clear if 2K Sports made an exact confirmation about the status of WWE 2K14 for Nintendo’s console (and we’re waiting for Take-Two/2K to come out and provide an official statement). Still, it’s not looking good, folks.
Rumor: Nintendo offers conversion tools to bring smartphone games to Wii U
Posted on 12 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in Podcast Stories, Rumors, Wii U | 0 comments
A new report from the Japan Times claims that Nintendo is now offering developers “professional-use conversion software” that allows smartphone and tablet games to be more easily made for Wii U. Nintendo’s ultimate goal is to increase hardware sales and offer a greater array of titles.
Given Nintendo’s new approach to smaller developers, this would hardly be surprising. The company just recently began supporting Unity on Wii U and launched the “Nintendo Web Framework”, enabling application development on the Wii U through HTML5, JavaScript, and CSS.

Rumor: Mario 3D hitting Wii U by October, Nintendo gearing up for big global marketing campaign
Posted on 12 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in Podcast Stories, Rumors, Wii U | 0 comments
CVG has posted a smattering of Wii U rumors today, led by speculation that Mario’s debut 3D outing for the console will be available by October.
The site says that it has had talks “with retail chains at the executive level”. One of its sources claims that Nintendo has been intentionally holding back on some of its games such as Pikmin 3, The Wonderful 101, and Wii Fit U, so that it can come out strong in the second half of 2013. However, a separate source denies this to be the case.
Rumor: Retailer says Call of Duty: Ghosts is coming to Wii U
Posted on 12 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in Rumors, Wii U | 0 comments
One retailer source has told ONM that Call of Duty: Ghosts is coming to Wii U.
Activision officially announced Ghosts yesterday. In addition to the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC, the company confirmed that the game is also heading to “next-generation platforms” – which may or may not include Wii U.
When asked if gamers can expect Call of Duty: Ghosts on Wii U, Activision would only say: “We don’t have any news for the Wii U at this time, as we aren’t dating next generation platforms yet. Stay tuned.”
Wii U allgedley hacked, playing copied games possible
Posted on 12 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in Rumors, Wii U | 0 comments
Wiikey, the same group behind Wii’s first mod chip, has allegedly hacked the Wii U.
An announcement on Wiikey’s website reads:
“Yes, its real. We have now completely reversed the WiiU drive authentification, disk encryption, file system, and everything else needed for this next generation K3y. Stay tuned for updates!”
Tangible evidence of the hack has yet to surface. Additionally, assuming Wiikey was successful, the implications may not be as severe as you would initially think.
Currently, it’s also possible to play copied games. The hack doesn’t allow for homebrew, region-free gamings, or in-game cheats.
Nintendo will likely choose to address Wii U vulnerability concerns through future Wii U firmware updates.
