Nintendo stock rises following recent Wii U sales news
Posted on 12 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in News, Podcast Stories, Wii, Wii U | 0 comments
Some may be down on recent sales for Nintendo, but it isn’t all bad for the Big N. The company’s stock saw the biggest increase in nearly four months once news came in that the Wii U has generated more revenue in the US than the Wii at the same point in its lifecycle.
Bloomberg reports a rise in stock to 5.6% to close at 9,070 yen. That’s actually Nintendo’s biggest gain since mid-September.

Skylanders franchise collects $500 million in US sales

Activision’s Skylanders franchise has raked in over $500 million in US retail sales, including accessory packs and figures. The milestone was reached faster than any other kids’ gaming property. More than $195 million was collected through Skylanders Giants sales.
Skylanders Giants and Skylanders Spyro’s Adventure figures outsold some of the top action figure lines in the toy category in the US such as Beyblades, WWE, and Star Wars. Last year, Skylanders Giants surpassed domestic box office sales for top holiday kids movies including “Wreck-It Ralph” and “Rise of the Guardians”.

The Conduit seeing Android port, will work with Project Shield

The Conduit was once hyped as a hardcore, exclusive first-person shooter for Wii. More than three years following its release, it looks like the title will now be heading to a new platform.
At CES 2013, The Conduit popped up on the Android-featured Nvidia TegraZone store. NVidia reps have, on the record, confirmed that The Conduit will be compatible with the new Project Shield handheld. While High Voltage Software is indeed developing the title, other details are unknown.
December 2012 NPD: Nintendo’s response, Wii U/3DS/Wii/DS sales
Posted on 12 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in 3DS, DS, News, Wii, Wii U | 0 comments
Nintendo’s response to the 2012 NPD report is in. The company sold 460,000 consoles in the US last month and a total of 890,000 units after 41 days. Wii U has generated over $300 million in the US, according to Nintendo and NPD.
Below you’ll find Nintendo’s complete response, which contains data for New Super Mario Bros. U, and numerous data for the 3DS, Wii, and DS.
With more than 460,000 units sold in December, Wii U has now sold nearly 890,000 units in the United States after only 41 days on the market, according to the NPD Group. To date, Wii U hardware sales have generated more than $300 million in the U.S. alone; Wii hardware had generated just more than $270 million at the same point in its lifecycle.
“While the Wii launch established new benchmarks in the United States, Wii U has surpassed its predecessor in perhaps the most important category: revenue generation,” said Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. “The demand for the Deluxe SKU, which was essentially sold out at retail this holiday, and the strong attach rate of New Super Mario Bros. U, shows that we have the value and the games to drive momentum in 2013. We look forward to offering great new experiences and bringing smiles to millions of new faces throughout the year.”

Armature Studio worked on a cancelled military FPS for Wii

A few key Retro Studios staffers left the company in 2008 and went on to form Armature Studio. Since then, it has only produced one game – Metal Gear Solid HD Collection for Vita.
It wasn’t all quiet for Armature over the past four years, however. Armature worked on a few now-canned projects, like “a military FPS game for the Nintendo Wii system” that was in development in late 2009. I wonder what that would have been like…

Newegg is selling Rhythm Heaven Fever for $12. It’s not quite as low as Best Buy’s $5 sale a couple of months back, but this isn’t a bad price at all.
You can purchase Rhythm Heaven Fever here. Shipping is free, and the retailer tends not to charge tax.
