I propose a caption contest for this image.

See how I did that thing where I named this post something as if it were part of a series that we’ve been doing for a while? That way I can trick people into thinking we have consistent enough features to have series of features and they’ll think we’re more professional. >:}

(You can view today’s “Post of the Day” here.)

Anyway, Skyward Sword comes out in six days, and I don’t think I’ve ever been this excited for a video game to come out before. The closest experience I can recall is the way I felt just before I went to pick up my Wii and Twilight Princess, and then after that the next most excited I’ve been was for The Conduit. We all know how that one worked out.

Clearly a masterpiece.

Now, for a while here I’d been following up on all of the videos, screenshots, and news posts about Skyward Sword. I felt bad for ruining some of the game’s mechanics, but I just couldn’t help myself. Eventually, spoilers went too far and I stopped myself from looking at anything relating to the game, save for a few of the spoiler-free reviews out there, when today I stumbled upon one of the best posts about the game I’ve seen in a long while. The reason for it is simply the thumbnail of Link falling and screaming or something, with a face tagged on that clearly says “IF I COULD TALK I WOULD BE SAYING ‘OH GOD’ RIGHT NOW”. It’s possibly the best picture of seen from the game, and just from that we can really see a couple of things:

First off, facial animations have gotten exponentially better since Twilight Princess. I know we sort of already knew this, but the amount of personality we see in such a goofy freeze-frame is wonderful, and I sincerely hope that this level of brilliance carries throughout the game. Secondly, anything with a character named “Groose” gets a 10/10 from me, especially if he’s always up to some silly antics. THIS GAME WILL BE THE BEST. Maybe. Does anyone here actually believe that Skyward Sword will truly be the best Zelda game? If it is, that means I’ll also consider it the best game of all time. That’s not something to be taken lightly at all…

The sixth volume of the Iwata Asks interviews featuring Zelda: Skyward Sword has gone live. The discussion focuses on a variety of topics, including the game’s cinematics and orchestrated music. The information comes from Shigeki Yoshida, Hajime Wakai, Naoki Mori, Hidemaro Fujibayashi, Eiji Aonuma, and Satoru Iwata.

Time for another spoiler warning! Some of you may want to avoid this clip seeing as how the game is just a few days away.

Thanks to Sandy for the tip!

Can you believe that The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword finally launches this week? It’s been five years since the last console Zelda… that almost seems unreal.

Nintendo of Europe wrote up the following press release to remind the folks living under a rock that the game will ship to stores later this week.

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword is due for release on 18th November 2011 and is already garnering high critical acclaim.

14th November 2011: 2011 has truly been the year of Zelda, with Nintendo celebrating the 25th anniversary of the epic adventure series, The Legend of Zelda™. To cap off what has been a year to remember for Zelda fans, Nintendo is set to launch one of the most highly anticipated The Legend of Zelda titles of all time, The Legend of Zelda™: Skyward Sword, exclusively for Wii™ on 18th November across Europe.

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword lays the foundation for the events in The Legend of Zelda™: Ocarina of Time, which is frequently cited as one of the greatest video games of all time. The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword is already garnering very high critical acclaim and is looking certain to surpass the review scores from any other game in the series. Leading video games publications from across the world have been keen to point out how much they have enjoyed playing the game:

Super Street Fighter II: The New Challengers made it to the Japanese Wii Virtual Console last week. Because it features online play – a rare feature for a VC title – fans in other territories have been particularly hopeful that they’ll be given an opportunity to download the game. Capcom has, fortunately enough, been quick to confirm that it will be made available in North America and Europe.

Capcom wrote on their official blog:

“Here’s a nice surprise – the Sega Genesis / Mega Drive version of Super Street Fighter II: The New Challengers is coming to the Japanese Virtual Console with online play added. On the surface, that’s not entirely great news, as most of us are not in Japan. However, I can confirm that this is indeed coming soon for US / EU as well, though there’s no set date.”

So, it’s coming… it’s just a matter of when it’ll hit the Wii Shop Channel. We’ll have to be patient, but at least we know it’s on the way.

It’s also worth mentioning that Strider is set for a North America/European release. No date has been confirmed yet, though you can expect it sometime in the near future.

Robin Williams is featured in yet another commercial for Skyward Sword. This time, though, Zelda Williams is nowhere to be found!
