Last weekend, it was reported that The Conduit was off to what most would consider a slow start in Europe. With the latest UK charts comes another sales update, although there still isn’t any wonderful news to report. The Conduit has slipped even further down the charts for the week ending July 18th. The title is no longer in the top 40 best-selling games overall and it dropped two spots to the tenth position for Wii-specific games. I don’t think that the sales will be improving from here on out, but we’ll just have to wait and see.

ILLUSION, MAGIC AND IMPOSSIBLE IDEAS COME TO LIFE IN UPCOMING ALICE IN WONDERLAND VIDEO GAMES FROM DISNEY INTERACTIVE STUDIOS
Games inspired by the upcoming Walt Disney Pictures film to give players their own unique journey through Tim Burton’s Underland
BURBANK, Calif. – (July 23, 2009) – As Tim Burton and Lewis Carroll fans become curiouser and curiouser (Carroll, 1865) about Walt Disney Pictures’ upcoming “Alice in Wonderland” film, Disney Interactive Studios today announced development of video game adaptations of the beloved story. The video games, inspired by Tim Burton’s highly anticipated film starring Johnny Depp, Anne Hathaway, Helena Bonham Carter and Mia Wasikowska as Alice, find Alice several years after the original “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” and “Through the Looking Glass” stories. Alice in Wonderland for Wii™, Nintendo DS™ and Windows-based PC takes players on a topsy-turvy and immersive journey in Underland as Alice finds herself in a world of illusion and magic where nothing is quite like it seems. Alongside her endearing friends –Mad Hatter, March Hare, Cheshire Cat and White Rabbit – players aid Alice to defeat the Red Queen and Jabberwocky. Alice in Wonderland mobile games will begin launching later this year.
“These games fully capture the magnificent and whimsical world of Underland while experiencing key moments from the film,” said Craig Relyea, senior vice president of global marketing, Disney Interactive Studios. “More than just a retelling of the movie, Alice in Wonderland introduces fans to an entirely new style of innovative gameplay designed to challenge the puzzle solving skills of older players while making the adventures accessible and enjoyable for the younger crowd. Innovative gameplay and distinct artistic styles on each platform gives players a range of unique and engaging experiences.”

REDMOND, Wash.–(BUSINESS WIRE)– On July 26, Nintendo invites everyone to kick back and transform their living rooms into a tropical island adventure with the Wii Sports Resort™ video game, the next chapter in the Wii Sports phenomenon. Wii Sports Resort introduces a new era of motion controls with 12 resort-themed sports enhanced by the included Wii MotionPlus™ accessory. This accessory attaches to the base of the Wii Remote™ controller to bring exacting precision to games that are specially designed for it. Wii MotionPlus recognizes the slightest twist or turn of the Wii Remote controller to bring players deeper into their games. Wii Sports Resort leverages this technology as players escape to a virtual resort and experience all the fun activities of the island setting.
The 12 sports (archery, basketball, bowling, golf, table tennis, Swordplay, Air Sports, canoeing, cycling, Frisbee®, Power Cruising and wakeboarding) allow players to use the Wii Remote and Nunchuk™ controllers in different ways, and while some sports require both controllers, others can be played using only the Wii Remote. In archery, players hold the Wii Remote vertically like a bow while drawing back the Nunchuk. In Frisbee, players motion with the Wii Remote as though they were tossing a real Frisbee. And while playing wakeboarding, players hold the Wii Remote sideways as though they were hanging onto the end of a tether behind a speedboat.
This information comes from the Capcom Unity forums. Capcom’s VP of Strategic Planning & Business Development, Christian Svensson, was asked why “online [is] so essential in 360 and PS3 games, but [gamers] haven’t seen an online Wii game.” Mr. Svensson’s reply can be read below.
“As a counter point… Dark Void (a 360/PS3/PC game) has NO co-op or multiplayer, online or offline. There we’re focusing on trying to make the best single player experience we could rather than spreading the resources we have too thinly.
Same theory here. Trying to make the best co-op brawling experience we can without spreading our resources too thinly. If you wanted online co-op, something else would have to have to have been sacrificed and if the core experience isn’t satisfying, then there’s no point in making it an online non-satisfying experience.
First time out with a new team, on a new title on new tech (while very talented, they’d never done a Wii game) with a sizable budget, there’s already more than enough risk in the project. We didn’t (and still don’t) view online co-op as the feature that was buy/no buy for the majority of the audience we’re seeking to reach if we make a good game. Everything else, as I’ve said before, can come in the sequel (God willing we sell enough to have one).”
