“Umm, I’ll say it was exciting but I can’t tell you what it was. Because I looked around and basically, I said to my boss, ‘Really? Are you serious?!’ and he said ‘Yeah, I’m not kidding.’ So, I’m like ‘oooookay!’ [laughs] So I started doing…something. Something exciting and something unexpected — something completely unexpected.” – JC Rodrigo, Nintendo of America Treehouse

So, I suppose this means that Nintendo didn’t reveal all of their cards at their media summit this week. I’m not too sure what the game is, since there are literally tons of possible games Rodridgo was referring to!

If the latest rumors are to be believed, both Capcom and SEGA will reveal SEGA vs. Capcom: Great Clash Generation for the DS at TGS. The game would based as a “hybrid RPG-fighting game” with a release date scheduled for Q1 2009. The rumors also explain that SEGA would be the main developer alongside Dimps, with Capcom acting as a supervisor. The character roster is apparently unknown, though Mega Man and Sonic are expected to make an appearance. TGS begins this Thursday, so we’ll know if this rumor holds any weight soon enough.

Rumors have been circling around as of late that Nintendo has a WiiHD system in development and has been showing it off to a few select people. Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter has commented on the speculation and is “absolutely convinced” that a Wii HD system is being created by Nintendo. “A Wii HD would really position Nintendo well, which is why I’m absolutely convinced there is a Wii HD coming. Businesswise, they can’t have people saying that their machine is a toy for my mom.”

NARUTOTM: Clash of Ninja Revolution® 2 Goes Gold, Soon to be Available to Ninja-in-Training Everywhere

LOS ANGELES – October 7, 2008

TOMY Corporation and D3Publisher, publishers of interactive entertainment software, have announced that NARUTO: Clash of Ninja Revolution 2 for the Nintendo Wii™ has gone gold and will be shipping to stores on October 21st. Based on the hit animated series by VIZ Media, Clash of Ninja Revolution 2 offers an all-new storyline that takes Naruto and the Anbu to lands beyond the Hidden Leaf Village, challenging sinister villains created just for North America. With 35 playable characters, improved gameplay mechanics, and new fighting modes, NARUTO: Clash of Ninja Revolution 2 brings the ultimate jutsu-testing experience to the Wii this fall.

“We’ve crafted a NARUTO fighting sequel that is both intense and action-packed,” said Laura Yoshioka, director of consumer software at TOMY Corporation. “New players and dedicated Naruto fans alike will enjoy the original story, as well as the polished fighting system and the huge cinematic special moves.”

“Right out of the gate [the DSi audience] is probably the hardcore gamers. They’re usually the early adopters that want to get the latest version of something, and they’ll be the ones that put it through its paces the hardest and give us all kind of feedback and tell us what they like and don’t like.” – Charlie Scibetta, Nintendo of America spokesperson

The feeling I’ve been assuming is that some people will be perfectly fine with their DS/DS Lite, while others will move on to the DSi due to some of the new features it presents. Anyone planning on picking up the DSi when it launches?

With Nintendo’s newest announcement of the DSi, many have already began analyzing the system’s potential, including its impact on the market. Now, analyst Michael Patcher offered his opinion on DSi downloads, stating that it can be a “game changer.”

“I suspect that broader appeal will ultimately be determined by the quantity and quality of downloadable content. If we see games like Boingz and Tetris (new Wii Ware games) exported to the DSi, or see new innovations that use the camera, I think it will be a game changer.”

Patcher also commented on Sony’s recent comments, in which it was stated that Sony isn’t sure if the DSi “will be a product that expands their user base [beyond] under 12.”

“I think that the core of the user base is between 6 and 18 (probably 75% of active users), so Koller isn’t that far off. The biggest reason for Western users over 18 to buy a DS is the games – like Brain Age – that appeal to older users. The camera feature, brighter screens, thinner case, etc. are nice to have, but don’t magically make my mom want to have one. I don’t see how the device suddenly appeals to adults unless Nintendo is able to demonstrate that the camera feature allows for more sophisticated game play.”

Namco Bandai announced We Ski and Snowboard, a new title for Wii, at its press conference yesterday. We Ski and Snowboard will utilize the balance board, nunchuck, and Wii controller as players venture down a mountain. The game will feature a modified trick set up from the original title, locations outside of Japan, races, schools, rescue missions, and much more. We Ski and Snowboard is scheduled to ship in March, but the first gameplay of the title should tide you over until then.

Socialising and communicating with friends and family has just got easier – and more fun – as the new Wii Speak accessory and Wii Speak Channel are launched for Wii across Europe on 5 December 2008.

Wii Speak enables people to connect to and communicate with friends using the free-to-use Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection* in a way that is very socially inclusive. Wii Speak can be connected directly to the console and pick up the conversations from an entire room of people, meaning friends and families can all get involved in conversations, sharing gaming and social experiences together. It’s just like using a phone to make a call and chat with other Wii-friends: but with Wii Speak, everyone in the room can get involved in the conversation.

The new Wii Speak Channel, accessed from the Wii’s main menu, allows up to four console users – who can be anywhere in the world – to connect together to chat, or to share pictures and text messages at no extra cost. Once connected, the Wii Speak Channel brings user’s Miis to life: as users’ Miis represent them on-screen during their conversations. When players are talking to each other, their Miis also ‘talk’ to match the sound that is being picked up by the Wii Speak accessory.
