Shadow Classic Sonic

Any hopes of Shadow appearing in the Classic Sonic the Hedgehog series have been dashed, at least for now.

Shadow is actually the favorite character of Sonic Team creative officer Takashi Iizuka. Unfortunately though, it seems he can only appear in the Modern series.

Speaking with Game Informer, Iizuka said:

“Shadow is from the Modern series of characters and gameplay that we have introduced. The Classic series exists before the Modern series, so they haven’t met at that time. There’s no relationship, so we won’t be bringing Shadow into the Classic series. Unfortunately, Shadow was in a capsule at that time (laughs).”

Shadow did have the starring role previously in a GameCube spinoff, Shadow the Hedgehog. That one launched in 2005.

Sonic Superstars is the next addition to the Classic series and features playable characters Sonic the Hedgehog, Miles “Tails” Prower, Knuckles the Echidna, and Amy Rose. Recently, SEGA discussed new enemy Trip, which you can read about here.

Sonic Superstars is slated to launch this fall on Switch.
