Sci-fi adventure game Astroneer arrives on Switch today. Check out some gameplay footage with the video below the break.

When Astroneer was announced for Switch this past summer, it already had a confirmed January 2022 release window. Today, developer System Era Softworks revealed a final date of January 13, 2022. Additionally, a physical version is confirmed with Gearbox Publishing handling distribution at a later date (currently estimated for February).

Astroneer for Switch is described as “the complete experience, including the brand-new Xenobiology update that will introduce mysterious creatures and new adventures.” Here players will go on “a narrative focused mission all over the solar system to discover the secrets behind these curious cephalopods.” Astroneer has been “thoroughly reworked” on Switch “to ensure a great performing experience” and there’s support for local multiplayer.

Astroneer was officially confirmed for Switch a few weeks ago. While we did receive a trailer at the time, System Era Softworks actually came out with another video focusing on gameplay that flew under the radar.

In case you missed it, here’s an overview for Astroneer with additional details:

Astroneer has been rumored for Switch as early as 2018 thanks to various classification listings. Today,
System Era Softworks made the news official. Astroneer is scheduled to launch in January 2022 on Switch.

Here’s an overview of the game, along with a trailer:

Astroneer has been rated for Switch by the ESRB, marking the second time we’ve seen a classification for the space sandbox adventure on Nintendo’s console. Back in September 2018, it was rated for Switch in Brazil.

We always need to stress that ratings aren’t necessarily confirmations of upcoming releases. However, they’re often signs that the companies involved are thinking about possibilities and are covering all of their bases. It’s possible that Astroneer could end up on Switch in the future, but we don’t have an official announcement at this time.

Here’s some information about Astroneer as well as a trailer:

System Era posted a new trailer for Astroneer today showing some of the first unreleased prototypes, and progression up to today. Watch it below.
