It’s been nearly a year since we last heard about Beatbuddy: Tale of the Guardians. But next week, the game will finally be shown off for Wii U. The game’s developer has confirmed via Twitter that Beatbuddy will be on display at Gamescom where it will make its world premiere on Nintendo’s console.

German website Gameswelt, in collaboration with Nintendo, will be hosting a tournament at Gamescom for the new Smash Bros. Gameswelt is currently seeking three commentators who will receive a free pass to the expo and a copy of the games for Wii U/3DS. Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn director/producer and Theatrhythm Final Fantasy: Curtain Call producer Ichiro Hazama will have a final versus gameplay battle at Gamescom 2014. It will take place on August 16 at 3 PM CESt. The video above gives a recap of each player’s total fight record, and the proceedings of the previous matchup which took place at E3 this year.

Square Enix has announced its lineup for Gamescom 2014.

For consoles and PC, the publisher is bringing along Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, Nosgoth, Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris, and Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 Remix. Theatrhythm Final Fantasy: Curtain Call, Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King, and Dragon Quest IV: Chapters of the Chosen will represent Square Enix’s handheld/mobile titles.

All of these games will be playable at Gamescom next month at over 180 hands-on stations.

With just a couple of weeks remaining until this year’s Gamescom, Nintendo has started to share more details about its presence at the expo. Today we’ve learned more about how Pokemon will be represented.

On August 14, Pokemon battle system lead developer Shigeki Morimoto will sign autographs for fans and will start a tournament with six players. Aside from this, fans can look forward to a distribution for the Pokeball Vivillon and there will be an exclusive video message from Junichi Masuda for Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire.

Gamescom 2014 is still a ways off, but we already have confirmation that Nintendo will be at the expo. Other major companies like Ubisoft, EA, and Konami will also be in attendance.

Compared to last year, there has been a 50 percent increase in the amount of exhibitors confirmed to be attending Gamescom. Exhibitors have registered from 26 different countries.
