Gunscape is making the jump to Switch, Blowfish Studios has announced. A release is planned for February 1, 2023.

If Gunscape sounds familiar, that’s because it was planned for Wii U at one point. We’re not quite sure what happened, but our latest status update was that it was planned for Q2 2016 at one point. The game’s developer then suggested in 2017 that a Switch version could materialize at some point.

Gunscape is a first-person shooter construction kit that was originally planned for Wii U. But at this point, it’s probably safe to say that it won’t come out on that system.

While Wii U is probably out, Switch could be a possibility. A developer speaking on the official Gunscape forum noted that cross-play between Switch and Xbox One has been “conditionally approved”. We assume that means players on both consoles would be able to play online together if Gunscape were to be made for Switch.

We have a bit of bad news regarding Gunscape, Blowfish Studios’ new shooter for Wii U. Although the game was dated for March 2 on pretty much every platform today, it won’t be on the eShop until sometime in Q2 2016.

Blowfish didn’t explain the Wii U delay, but confirmed that the title will support up to 5 players in split-screen multiplayer. There will apparently be support for up to 20 players online, too. Cross-platform level sharing is enabled, meaning creations can be shared between Wii U, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and other platforms.

We first reported on Gunscape last September. Blowfish Studios’ first-person shooter lets players create their own levels and multiplayer maps. That’s in addition to cross-platform sharing, which allows for content to be exchanged with other platforms such as the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Gunscape was originally planned for release in January. This month has almost finished, and now Blowfish says that they hope to have the title ready sometime in February.

The developer told one fan on Twitter earlier this month:

A few days ago, Blowfish Studio Games confirmed that its old-school shooter Gunscape will be coming to Wii U early next year. The game will allow for level sharing across platforms.

Blowfish Studio Games has since told Nintendo Everything reader Mike that Gunscape will feature “proper Wii Remote pointer controls.”

While it’s a small detail, it’s notable in a way. We haven’t seen too many shooters on Wii U these days to make use of the Wii Remote aside from the older Call of Duty games.
