Kensuke Tsukanaka

A new interview with the developers of Project X Zone 2 has been published by Nintendo Life. The site spoke with Bandai Namco producer Kensuke Tsukanaka and Monolith Soft development director Soichiro Morizumi about the new 3DS game. Topics include how some of the new characters were chosen, the influence of fan feedback, and the series’ future.

Destructoid was recently able to give Project X Zone 2 a spin, and has now shared some hands-on gameplay impressions. While checking the game out, the site was able to chat with series producer Kensuke Tsukanaka.

Tsukanaka stated that the opening animation of Project X Zone 2 will feature every playable hero. Additionally, the video will be just over two minutes of length.

Tsukanaka added:

“We’re aiming to look for new fans with an even bigger cast. We want people to see a new character and ask ‘what game is this from?’ We want them to become even more involved with the industry as a whole.”

In Project X Zone 2, Monolith Soft is giving more effort to the original animation. Fans can count on more artwork than before in and out of combat.

As for how the collaboration between Bandai Namco, Capcom, and SEGA is possible, Tsukanaka mentioned that “all of us have a mutual respect for each other. We’ve also collaborated for years with one another, so it wasn’t too much of a stretch to create this project. The rivalry still exists, but it’s a friendly one.”

Siliconera caught up with Project X Zone 2 series producer Kensuke Tsukanaka at E3. The story and selection of certain characters were among the topics discussed.

Project X Zone 2 director Kensuke Tsukanaka, speaking with Siliconera, explained why Baten Kaitos isn’t represented in the games. Monolith Soft developed Baten Kaitos and its sequel along with the Project X Zone titles.

Tsukanaka was also asked if we’ll ever see Baten Kaitos again, even if it’s outside of Project X Zone.

Here’s what Siliconera was told:

“So, do you remember that KOS-MOS and T-elos, from Xenosaga, were in the first Project X Zone game? We didn’t include them just because Monolith Soft was developing Project X Zone, we put them in there because there were so many fans of their games on the team, and that they happened to make sense for the world of the game.

“The reason there’s not Baten Kaitos characters in the story is because they just didn’t seem to fit in anywhere. As for [Baten Kaitos] itself outside of Project X Zone, well, I can’t really say much about that yet, but I think we need some substantial feedback from fans before moving forward with a project like that. What do they want to see from it? What platform do they want to see it on? If we can gather more voices for Baten Kaitos, then maybe we can start something with Bandai Namco Entertainment. That’s about all I can say right now!”

I honestly never thought I’d be writing about Baten Kaitos in a news post. I have so much love for the first game, though I’m ashamed to say that its sequel is sitting in my never-ending backlog. I’d be a massive supporter of a third Baten Kaitos!

Project X Zone 2 is going to include “some new elements” that will “add more depth to the battle system”. This was teased by producer Kensuke Tsukanaka during an interview with Siliconera at E3.

Tsukanaka said:

We haven’t officially announced this yet, but, we are going to include some new elements to the existing battle system. We actually took it out of the hands-on demo here at E3, but, we’ll be announcing it soon! We know it’ll add more depth to the battle system.

Siliconera also asked if the team is adding additional comments. Tsukanaka wouldn’t comment on specific details, and would only offer up the following: “whatever it is, it’ll add depth!”

Bandai Namco officially unveiled Project X Zone 2 last week. After the announcement, Famitsu caught up with a few of the game’s developers for an interview. The magazine spoke with Kensuke Tsukanaka (producer, Bandai Namco), Souichiro Morizumi (Monolith Soft, development director), and Koji Ishitani (development producer, Monolith Soft).

Famitsu starts by asking when development on Project X Zone 2 kicked off. According to Morizumi, the team was “considering the project and playing new entries of featured games” after Project X Zone’s Japanese launch. Work truly began after the team received feedback from the western release in 2013.

Tsukanaka also said, “The release had very good reputation in North America and Europe. So given the situation both domestically and overseas, we started to create the sequel.”
