Midora

Midora has gone through its fair share of financial issues since it achieved funding on Kickstarter back in July 2014. That’s all culminated with Epic Minds essentially cancelling the project for the time being and offering refunds to those who pledged to the original campaign. The developer felt this would be the best way to go about the situation after being unable to strike a deal with investors or publishers last month.

Epic Minds wrote in a Kickstarter update:

Midora, Epic Minds’ 2D action-adventure game, has been put on hold. You may recall that the project was funded on Kickstarter last year, and was planned for both Wii U and 3DS.

Epic Minds explained in a website update that “the money we raised was never enough to begin with” and more developers are needed. The team is “not bankrupt, but we know for sure we do not have enough to complete this game.”

So what’s next? Epic Minds is now preparing a completely different title called “Treasure Addicts”, which has “made excellent progress”. Midora is on the backburner for the time being.

Epic Minds’ 2D action-adventure title Midora is coming to both Wii U and 3DS following a successful campaign on Kickstarter. Earlier today, the total amount raised surpassed $60,000, which was the project’s goal.

Midora’s Kickstarter does have platform-specific stretch goals (including a $80,000 goal for Wii U/3DS), though they are unlikely to be met as less than two days remain the crowdfunding campaign. However, Epic Minds has already confirmed that not reaching these goals shouldn’t cause any issues. Not hitting them simply means that Midora will be brought to additional platforms slightly later.
