The thing though is that it’s already confirmed that the characters on the Special Edition box are the full roster. Characters like Owain, Niles, Oboro, and Navarre can’t be playable because they aren’t on it. They’ll probably be made playable with DLC. Koei Tecmo did this before with Pirate Warriors, where some characters were NPCs and enemies in the base game and made playable via DLC.

    • AquaBat

      When exactly was this “confirmed”

    • Pachirisu

if i remember correctly in hyrule warriors didn’t they make bosses playable with an update or something? maybe they’ll do the same here?
i forgot their names but the volvagia dude, lana’s sister, the poe looking dude?

      • Fandangle

Volga the Dragon Knight, Cia the Witch, Wizzro the Poe, and yes they did.

      • Princess_Eevee9

How could you forget our Goddess Cia? And Dragon WAIFU I wish he was canon Volga!?

    • ToonAddict1

      The big questions here:

      1. Will the NPC characters end up being playable later?

      2. If so, will they be DLC content that players will have to pay for, or will they be free content included with the game’s updates to accommodate the new DLC?

      3. If the characters are “free update” characters, what are the odds that Ophelia will be a DLC character in the Fates pack (got to finish Chrom’s family tree here)?

  • Pepperkeet

    DLC characters confirmed

    • ben

I mean… yeah…it is a Musou game.. Zelda Musou launched with barely anything.

      • Fandangle

I think he meant that the characters that are unplayable in the base game are the DLC characters. It wouldn’t be the first time it’s happened in a Musou game. The question is are they going to charge consumers to unlock them?

      • Princess_Eevee9

Barely anything kept me playing for months then the updates went out.

    • ronin4life

These sound like post launch update unlocks to me.

  • Fandangle

Wow, it was even more disappointing than I ever thought.

No Radiant characters, Only one character from Gaiden Without her partner, no Blazing/binding characters. No characters from 4, 5, or 8 either It’s just “Why?” Why would they say they’re focusing on SD when it was obviously only a token inclusion in the first place? Why would they include every god awful character from Fates but not Alm or Ike?

    • JasonBall

I agree 100% but feel compelled to remind you of Lyn.

      • Fandangle

I know Lyn, but she feels so incredibly last minute, and including her without Eliwood or Hector makes me think they’re trying to appease the Waifu culture as well as the fans at the same time. It’s especially ridiculous since they said they didn’t want too many sword users but they chose the one character from 7 that could only wield a plain sword and it doesn’t even look like they tried to make her particularly unique as a sword user either. while Hector’s signature weapon is an Axe and Eliwood can use lances.

I do appreciate her inclusion though.

        • JasonBall

I totally agree. It’s just you said no blazing characters.

        • The funny thing with Lyn and the “sword user statement” is that Lyn can actually use a bow as a promoted unit. This whole statement is probably one of Koei Tecmo’s biggest mistakes.

          • Velen (Not WoW)

            Yes it was…

    • Pachirisu

they’ll add more i bet after the the announced dlc is out and they release a “legends” version like they did with Hyrule Warriors

      • Fandangle

I don’t want to pay more to fix their terrible roster. I want them to make the roster better to make the price as it is justified.

        • Addy

Oh I’m sure they’ll do that for whenever Fire Emblem Warrior Legends / 2 comes out, that is, if it does.

        • Dragonage2ftw

Then you’ve never played a Warriors game before, then!

          • Fandangle

I have. I’ve played several. Have you played anyone outside HW?

      • Fandangle

I’m not going to pay for a bad game and them pay extra for dlc that fixes it. If there is a sequel that adds characters from across the series I’d consider it.

    • Trần Thế Hào

they already said that the game focus on the SD, Awakening and Fates so most of the char come from those game.

      • Fandangle

They didn’t focus on SD though. They tossed in a handful of characters and called it a day. They clearly care about SD as much as other FE fans do.

SD was an absolutely awful choice. Tiki and marth should have been the only characters they took from it and they should have focused on PoR and RD instead. Honestly they should have just added in main characters from all across the series.

        • Dragonage2ftw

PoR and RD are hated in Japan, and they sold horrifically.

Focusing on those games would be financial suicide. As would making this game a boring Lord fest.

          • Fandangle

They aren’t. I mean Ike totally got in smash because japan hated him. and they had a great opportunity to make up those sales in the west and they didnt.

Focusing on those games would be financial suicide. As would making this game a boring Lord fest.

not really. Financial suicide would be releasing a game with little to no effort to market it with limited quantities ensuring low sales in the region despite the character being well liked in another franchise of theirs. Smash was a great opportunity to capitalize on the fire emblem brand. They didn’t.

I also sense a bit of salt in this comment. Maybe you should take a bit of a break from replying to every one of my posts?

    • Dragonage2ftw

      Gee.

It’s almost like you were TOLD THAT THIS WOULD HAPPEN.

      /sarcasm.

  • bdp

    14 sword users. 14.

    • Fandangle

“We don’t want to focus on sword users guys! That’s why we didn’t include all the lords despite literally half of them having alternative weapons or their signature weapon, despite being a sword, would play completely differently as a great sword and a sword that’s literally on fire aren’t the same as a plain old sword!” :^)

    • Jaxon Holden

      19 non-sword users. 19

      • Fandangle

I don’t think you understand the hypocrisy of the devs here. They said they didn’t want to add fan favorite characters because “too many sword users” and then they go and make half the cast sword users, they make their own OCs sword users. They add in Lyn and Celica and give them swords, despite Hector and Eliwood also being on the table and Celica using magic as much as she ever used a sword.

        • NeptuniasBeard

They never said “too many sword users”, they said too many lords. Lords don’t have very distinct fighting style between them. They’d fight like Marth, Chrom, or the twins.

Neither Hector nor Eliwood(who’s weapon is also a sword btw) is nearly as popular as Lyn. And Celica was clearly a last minute promo a la Roy in Melee

          • Fandangle

            No. You’re outright lying here.

From the own effin article their problem they stated with lords was this:

In that case everyone would have swords, so there wouldn’t be any strategic systems with switching characters or even anything else.

Neither Hector nor Eliwood(who’s weapon is also a sword btw) is nearly as popular as Lyn. And Celica was clearly a last minute promo a la Roy in Melee

First off, popularity CLEARLY isn’t important because Ike and Roy are nowhere to be seen, literally the most popular character in the series and the second most popular malr character. Hector isn’t far behind either and he would actually add moveset dicersity instead of half the cast being sword users. As for celica they gave her a sword when they should have made her a total magic orientated character and adding her and not Alm barely makes any sense.

          • NeptuniasBeard

And where did they say too many swords? Exactly.

My point still stands that with the current roster, we have only a few Lords which leads gives us greater weapon variety AND fighting styles. Having a bunch of Lords mean having a bunch of guys that fight like Marth or Chrom. There are still clones, but movesets are only copied once

And popularity led to Lyn getting in over the other characters not in the main 3 games. I wasn’t talking about the roster in general. And making Celica a mage would make her a Robin clone, (which I’m pretty sure I already said. But probably elsewhere.) and she is still first and foremost a sword user

          • Fandangle

And where did they say too many swords?

I directly quoted the article right there. @[email protected]

My point still stands that with the current roster, we have only a few Lords which leads gives us greater weapon variety AND fighting styles. Having a bunch of Lords mean having a bunch of guys that fight like Marth or Chrom. There are still clones, but movesets are only copied once

The only point you’ve made is that fates and awakening are the only games in the series you’ve ever played.

And popularity led to Lyn getting in over the other characters not in the main 3 games

I’m sorry but could you read my post before responding? I literally just adressed this.

And making Celica a mage would make her a Robin clone, (which I’m pretty sure I already said.

uuuh no. If you actually played echoes or gaiden you’d know celica primarily uses light magic like seraphim. All awakening mages focus on elemental or dark magic.

          • NeptuniasBeard

No, you, seemingly intentionally, left out the part where he mentioned class representation as an important factor. And he NEVER used the phrase “too many swords”

Don’t see why I would need to play an entire game just to see some attack animations? It’s pretty obvious that their styles would overlap greatly. Especially compared to Myrmidons/Swordmasters like Lyn and Ryoma. And no, “fire” is not a fighting style.

And let’s say they did take effort to give each lord a distinct fighting style, that’d be even more time consuming and would only shrink class/weapon variety even further. As it is now we have 7-8 distinct sword styles with the remaining 4 being last minute clones, thus taking far less dev time from other characters. As opposed to making 13-15 distinct sword styles.

Your original argument was against the fact that they added Lyn over Eliwood or Hector. Not Ike. And popularity being a factor is not the same as popularity being absolute. Out of all the popular characters, they chose Lyn. Ike may be more popular, but they ultimately chose Lyn. May it be for gender reasons or they felt she brought more new among sword users, who knows. But the point is that popularity is a factor, not a standard.

Celica is primarily a sword user. Which is why she starts with swords. Which is why she uses swords in cutscenes where she’s shown fighting. It’s why she swings a sword around in her sprite. She can use magic, sure. She has a wealth of spells, okay. But she still primarily uses a sword. And why wouldn’t she? Magic drains life in her game.

          • Fandangle

No, you, seemingly intentionally, left out the part where he mentioned class representation as an important factor.

He didn’t say it was though. He said he didn’t want to include too many lords because that very reason. The problem wasn’t lords, the problem was swords. Look I’ll even post the FULL quote which you are completely misrepresenting.

if we were to put in protagonists from every series, most of them would
end up becoming Lords. In that case everyone would have swords, so there
wouldn’t be any strategic systems with switching characters or even
            anything else.

It’s not “We didn’t do use that roster BECAUSE they’re lords.” It’s “We didn’t use this roster BECAUSE swords.”

The man clearly has never played any FE game outside of 13 and 14.

Don’t see why I would need to play an entire game just to see some
attack animations? It’s pretty obvious that their styles would overlap
            greatly

They wouldn’t overlap. Unless you’re literally saying Ike’s Greatsword is the same as Marth’s Rapier or Chrom’s Straightsword. That’s your own ignorance. And yes, fire themed attacks can add a large variety to attacks. But that’s not really the point. Including all the main characters would actually decrease the amount of sword users. I counted 9 with a max potential of 11 total sword users. Much less than their ridiculous 14.

Your original argument was against the fact that they added Lyn over Eliwood or Hector. Not Ike.

ONE of the two pointsI brought up that you did not even acknowledge was: Lyn obviously wasn’t added due to popularity as Ike is literally the most popular FE character and he isn’t in. Neither is Roy who is the second most popular male character in the series. Hector scored higher than Chrom did. If popularity is what we’re going by then it should have been 6/7, 9/10, and 13. That would have been a LOT more even spread of characters across the series instead of bunching it up for the latest 2 installments and token SD inclusions. The other argument was that they clearly don’t care about variety because if their focus WAS character variety they would have included Hector or Eliwood or given her a bow. They didn’t. The reason they picked her was clearly tokenism. The amateurish model they used for her indicates she was a last minute addition. Her and Celica both were probably completely last minute because the got so much flak for their idiotic inclusions.

Celica is primarily a sword user. Which is why she starts with swords.

No she isn’t, and she doesn’t. She starts with a golden dagger and it turns into her signature dagger Beloved Zofia. She also has a Signature spell that is exclusive to her character. The game treats daggers the same as swords, but since you’re obviously ignorant of the difference between sword types and fighting styles it can be forgiven. A dagger isn’t the same as a plain straight sword either. However the devs CLEARLY don’t care about signature weapons either considering they added Lissa, Elise, and Sakura without theirs.

It’s why she swings a sword around in her sprite

No they show it because all main characters have the same sprite animation since the first game as a homage to Marth’s unique sprite in FE1.

Magic drains life in her game.

Yeah, and in fire emblem characters take turns battling and weapons have limited use. Are you actually this dumb or are you pretending right now?

          • NeptuniasBeard

He did several times mention class representation.

“Because we want to make it a Warriors game where you can properly use the DISTINGUISHED CLASSES.”

“That means we want to put an emphasis on the gameplay of switching CLASSES,”

That’s at least twice right there in the interview he mentions classes. Yes, that they use swords play a part. But it’s also largely redundancy to have a dozen of ONE class.

Have YOU played a game outside of 13 and 14?

            Marth
            Alm
            Celica
            Sigurd
            Seliph
            Leif
            Roy
            Eliwood
            Eirika
            Ike
            Chrom
            Corrin

ALL use swords. Do your math again my guy, because I count 12 sword users with JUST the protagonists. 13 if you include Lyn. And the protagonists of this game would STILL use swords because THEY are lords. Bringing the count to 15. So we either get 15 sword wielding Lords, or we get 12 (not sure where you keep coming up with 14, Darrius isn’t playable, and M!Corrin is a skin) sword wielders of various classes with the added bonus of nearly all of them actually being relevant.

Fire themed attacks would just add a fire element to standard attacks instead of the light Marth uses or the lightning Chrom uses. That’s not really enough to bring a new fighting style.

Ike’s greatsword is the exception, not the rule.

Speaking of Ike, his (and Roy’s)popularity comes much more from being a Smash Bros character than it does him being a Fire Emblem character. His games sold like buttcheeks. Lyn on the other hand is basically Marth for Western audiences, as she’s the first protagonist we got to play as overseas. Her popularity as a FIRE EMBLEM character is much more earned. The reason Ike is more popular is because ANOTHER series is far larger than Fire Emblem may ever be.

Echoes treats Daggers like swords. Celica also swings it like sword and it even looks like a sword during battle. And in the cutscene where she fights *spoilers* she’s clearly using a sword. Oh and what’s that she’s holding in her OFFICIAL artwork for both Echoes AND Gaiden?

It sure as heck ain’t a tome. And it’s way too long to be a dagger… Why, I’m pretty sure that’s a SWORD. BOOM!

Now, you may claim that she’s primarily about her magic. But the devs seem to disagree. And you know, call me crazy, but I think I’m siding with them.

          • Fandangle

Before i get into your post I want to address something you’re consistently ignoring.

ALL use swords. Do your math again my guy, because I count 12 sword users with JUST the protagonists.

I can only assume you’re being willfully ignorant here because I literally just explained this to you. Characters of a class can use different weapons. Half the characters use alternate weapons. I’ve literally explained this to you 3 times now. Please keep up. Either a dress my points or stop replying please. This is repetitive. A few of the character’s you listed aren’t even the Lord class.

That’s at least twice right there in the interview he mentions classes.

are you unable to understand basic human logic? I’m sorry if that sounds mean but he clearly says “we don’t want main characters because that would end up mostly lords which would end up mostly swords.”

And the protagonists of this game would STILL use swords because THEY are lords. Bringing the count to 15. So we either get 15 sword wielding Lords

nope. They literally admitted that the protagonists only use swords because they thought it was defualt, which goes to show how much they actually play the game. In general the OCs are useless and could easily not be included. The plot in general is am incredibly lazy excuse plot so it wouldn’t be hard to figure out a better one that doesn’t revolve around bad OCs.

Speaking of Ike, his (and Roy’s)popularity comes much more from being a Smash Bros character than it does him being a Fire Emblem character.

and? Even if this is true it holds no relevance here. It would be in nintendo’s best interest to make those smash fans who like the characters into fire emblem fans. Too bad they never brought over Roy’s game over and they treated Ike’s games like discount bin trash. And the only game we got with marth was probably one of the worst fire emblem games ever.

Celica also swings it like sword and it even looks like a sword during battle.

yeah and the game treats hammers the same as axes. TOTALLY THE SAME. And again the game is also turn based and weapons have uses.

Since I feel that point flew over your head, the musou series is an action game series and fire emblem is a turn based strategy game. They have different mechanics, this seems like something you’re unable to fully wrap your head around here. It essentially means while fire emblem treats all swords the same because the difference would have a minimal effect on game play a warriors game has a much greater emphasis on the actual weapon so a great sword like Ragnell would be different from a rapier or a dagger.

It sure as heck ain’t a tome. And it’s way too long to be a dagger… Why, I’m pretty sure that’s a SWORD. BOOM!
Now, you may claim that she’s primarily about her magic. But the devs seem to disagree. And you know, call me crazy, but I think I’m siding with them.

have you played gaiden or echoes? Tomes don’t exist in it. Characters learn magic through leveling up. They also have “default” weapons so for example you can equip alm with a bow but he would lose access to his basic sword attack. You can equip celica with a shield and she’d still retain her defualt sword and her magic skills and her signature magic skills. As a result their weapon models don’t really change. And then there is the fact that beloved zofia is optional in echoes and out of the way, unless you get the hint from sabre early in the game that the golden dagger celica gives him is more than just a golden dagger and then upgrade it. Cutscenes are also pre rendered. It was like this in awakening too, even if you changed chrom or lucina’s class they would always appear as lords with falchions in Cutscenes because it is too much effort to model each of their classes and weapons and then render the cutscene for literally every possible combination. Most devs go around this by rendering cutscenes in game.

I also never said she’s primarily magic. I said she uses magic just as much as her sword.

          • NeptuniasBeard

They CAN use different weapons. But what is their MAIN weapon? The one in their official artwork. The one they get a legendary version of? Swords. Xander and Chrom can also use lances, but their legendary weapons, the one’s that define them, are SWORDS. I don’t understand why this so difficult a concept for you to grasp. They’re not going to let the holder of a legendary weapon fight with some random lance. There’s not going to be a Fire Emblem game where Marth doesn’t have Falchion or Ike doesn’t have Ragnell. Just… no.

And regards to popularity, it’s like I said. It plays a FACTOR. Lyn may not be the most popular, but she’s still VERY popular.

Yes, a DAGGER is MUCH closer to a sword than a hammer is to an axe. Obviously. Especially when that dagger in the GAME ITSELF is given the appearance of a SWORD. You never see her actually use a dagger. I don’t even know why the game bothers calling it a dagger, when it looks AnD functions like a sword.

And if tomes don’t exist in Echoes, and Celica doesn’t use tomes, then what are you even complaining about? You’re admitting that the only WEAPON she has is her swords. And she uses her sword primarily in battle and her magic as a complement, JUST AS SHE DOES IN THIS GAME. She uses magic in her specials, she uses magic during her dual attacks. She uses magic. So what’s your argument?

At this point we’re basically having a back and forth over spilled milk. I already made up my mind to get the game. Sucks for you that you aren’t getting the game you want. But that’s life.

Regardless, we’ve both spent way too much time on this. So I’m going to stop

          • Fandangle

But what is their MAIN weapon?

no such thing. Some characters have signature weapons but you’re never forced to use them and especially in celica and alm’s case if you’re not using their alternative weapons you’re gimping yourself. Especially in Celica’s case because she is MUCH more useful as a magic character.

I’ll also ask you this? If their “main” weapon as you call it is so important why do lissa, Elise and Sakura not use them? I feel like I’ve repeated this 5 times now.

There’s not going to be a Fire Emblem game where Marth doesn’t have Falchion or Ike doesn’t have Ragnell. Just… no.

and I certainly would be more forgiving if they added alm with a bow than they would by adding fifty billion fates characters. I also never said to take away Ike’s Ragnell or Marx’s blade. Plus I hardly think their weapons are a detriment to their character. Ike has a personal attachment to his blade but he doesn’t use it until late in the game.

. There’s not going to be a Fire Emblem game where Marth doesn’t have Falchion

I wouldn’t even say earth’s primary weapon is a falchion. He’s more well known for using a rapier. He doesn’t even get the falchion until late game in FE1.
And besides, that’s marth. Not Sigurd or alm or celica.

NOPE. daggers are just as different from swords as axes are from hammers if not more so. You’re making the assumption that just because they’re both bladed means they’re similar. They’re treated the same because in the context of FE’s game play it wouldn’t be a significant distinction. Also technical capabilities prevented them from making a very in depth weapon system for Gaiden and FE1.

And if tomes don’t exist in Echoes, and Celica doesn’t use tomes, then what are you even complaining about?

I’m complaining that she could have easily been turned into a pure magic character?

I’m sorry that you’re getting worked up over character representation but that doesn’t make it any less insulting to the fanbase.

          • Vigilante_blade

Please stop making sweeping statements about games you have never played. If you had played any of them, you would understand that they would be far from clones. Heck, Celica being a Marth clone makes no sense. She is primarily a mage. Her sword is her secondary means of combat.

          • Dragonage2ftw

            Okay.

Explain why she uses a Sword in her amiibo, then.

          • Vigilante_blade

She doesn’t use the sword. she is an inanimate object. She wields a sword, but she is primarily a caster. He sword is her secondary means of combat.

      • AquaBat

Combining lances, bows and magic together as if they’re one weapon doesn’t give you a point

The weapon choices are still horribly imbalanced, especially when they insisted that they shouldn’t include characters from other games because there’d be, and I quote, “too many sword users”.

        • NeptuniasBeard

Except the quote didn’t say “too many swords”. Their line was more along the lines of focusing on different games for the sake of CLASS VARIETY. Because most protagonists are sword wielding LORDS. Pretty sure the only ones that aren’t are Ephraim, Micaiah, and Hector, and none of them are even really protagonists.

And with the exception of Ike, whose sword is notably larger than most, and Corrin, who’s part dragon, most of the lords would fight very similarly to each other.

And yes, there are clones in the current roster. There would be even MORE clones if they included every protagonist. I hope you like Celica being a Marth clone, because at least 4 other lords would also get his fighting style.

Which is why CLASS VARIETY is the key phrase here. Swordmasters like Lyn and Ryoma have naturally distinct fighting styles. Paladin Xander is on his horse. And Corrin is again, part dragon.

And don’t even get me started on playing through the story mode. Hey look, we have as many as FIFTEEN sword lords in our main party. And since most of them are the protagonists of their own game, they either have to spread screen time thin giving everyone due respect, or many of them will stand around contributing nothing.

          • Vigilante_blade

Actually, that is not true. Eirika is a rapier duelist while Ephraim is a lancer. Both can even be horse units. Micaiah is a mage that uses light magic. Hector is an axe knight with a reckless personality. Eliwood and Roy use flaming blades, Roy being able to cast projectile flames from it and Eliwood having lances too. Ike uses a one handed great sword technique and has axes. Alm fights left-handed and uses shield bashes as part of his combat as well as a bow. Also, Hector, Ephraim and Micaiah are definitely protagonists.

          • AquaBat

No one said they had to include every protagonist
            Nobody likes Leif
If they wanted class variety you can find that in every single game
            Ephraim
            Lilina
            Micaiah
            Joshua
            Florina
            Miranda
            Reinhardt
That is seven characters from seven different games with seven different ways of fighting, and none of them use swords as their primary weapon
Not a single one of them is in this roster
Because 17 sword users were shoved in
And at least 13 of them will be in your party during the story mode and half of them do absolutely nothing, since we’re gonna bring that up

          • NeptuniasBeard

Obviously there is class variety in every game, but what’s the point of including them if you leave their respective protagonist out? Remember the all the crap Chrom got for having Robin included in Smash over him? Even with this game you have people going “why Celica but no Alm?” And in the story they wouldn’t even have anyone to play off of.

And let’s be real, most of those characters are nobodies without having the main character there. And I say this as someone who likes Joshua. Heck most of those characters already have their class represented in the game as is, with the benefit of being repped by relevant characters.

Only 8 sword users are actually playable in the party. Don’t know where you’re getting 13. And of them only Marth/Chrom/Corrin are protagonists and everyone else is just their entourage, and thus can be ignored when not needed. Which can’t be done if you have Marth/Chrom/Corrin/Ike/Roy/Eliwood/Sigurd/Seliph etc. etc.

And where’d you get 17 sword users? Even if Darius is playable(which I doubt personally) There’s 13.

          • Dragonage2ftw

Having characters other than the main character represent a game is asinine.

        • Carlos

Hayashi: “Because we want to make it a Warriors game where you can properly use the distinguished classes. Even so, if we were to put in protagonists from every series, most of them would end up becoming Lords. In that case everyone would have swords, so there wouldn’t be any strategic systems with switching characters or even anything else.”

          • Velen (Not WoW)

            Oh wow. He really didn’t.

          • AquaBat

Because there’s so much strategic system with switching Marth with Lucina
Or either of the two original protagonists, who both use swords
            Or Ryoma
            Or Chrom
            I can go on
So much strategy switching between these
You could have Marth use his Falchion, then Chrom hits them with his Falchion, then Lucina finishes them off with a PARALLEL Falchion (it’s super different you guys)

          • Radish

Yeah let’s take out Marth, Chrom, and Lucina and replace them with 3 characters that no one’s ever heard of. Brilliant! We’ll sell MILLIONS!

          • Dragonage2ftw

None of those characters play similarly, except for MAYBE Lucina and Chrom.

          • Vigilante_blade

            Takumi – Sakura – Niles
            Elise – Leo
            Marth – Chrom
            Marth – Celica
Lyn – Navaare – Likely Owain
            Cordelia – Hinoka – Caeda

Off the top of my head

      • bdp

if you have to add every other type to reach a greater sum than 1 type you have ruined your balance.

    • Vigilante_blade

Kinda crazy how they refused to have non-sword lords like Hector and Ephraim and added Ryoma and Xander and three sword OCs, as well as Having Chrom and Lucina as clones, then added Owain and Navarre instead of Ike and Roy. They priorities were not straight.

      • ToonAddict1

Actually, including Owain is very understandable given his bloodline, his popularity when it comes to Awakening characters, and his connections to Fates.

        • Vigilante_blade

Owain has no story relevance, adds a non-main character sword unit. Ike and Roy would have been far greater picks.

          • Radish

And yet Ike and Roy are both in Smash and have Amiibo figures. Owain has nothing.

          • Pinkie-Dawn

He did have a trophy in the 3DS version of Sm4sh, as well as Cordelia.

          • Radish

Lol my bad, I guess that’s fair!

          • Dragonage2ftw

Owain has great story importance in Fates, and he’s one of the most popular characters in Awakening, the best selling game in the franchise.

Ike and Roy would’ve been garbage picks.

          • Vigilante_blade

What did Owain do? All I see is him memeing.

And Ike, Roy and Hector are three of the most popular characters is the entire franchise. They would have been better picks.

  • JasonBall

The line about balancing weapon triangle has been confirmed as bulls***. So disgusted by whoever chose this roster. That interview about the staff saying to the producers “you aren’t true fans” is more and more telling every week. They’ve gone beyond the point of unfair 3ds game rep for sales purposes, this is just retard*d.

    • Vigilante_blade

Agreed. No reason to include Owain and Navarre over Ike and Roy for example. They lied through their teeth. It must have been hell for Fire Emblem fans within the team.

They could have given Fates and Awakening slightly more rep than others if they wanted, but to almost completely ignore the GBA, GC and SNES era is terrible.

Being a classic FE fan is frustrating, because all cool crossover ideas will invariably be Shadow Dragon, Awakening and whatever is new. We are not asking for those to be left out, but for the love to be spread around. Why not have Ike, Roy, Hector? Why not have Ike’s Ragnel in Monster hunter as a great sword instead of Marth of Chrom’ falchion for once? Why not make a Tokyo Mirage session where Chrom is there, but you can summon different lords for different abilities? I am sick and tired of exclusive 3DS focus. Again, not asking for their exclusion, but asking for variety and some recognition for long time and loyal fans.

      • Radish

I love reading these Fire Emblem comment sections because I get to watch your temper boil like Roy’s sword. Just face it, the popular games will always get more recognition. *grabs some popcorn*

        • Jay Bern

There’s a slight problem with that, though. He’s right.

          • Radish

If he’s right, Nintendo would have done it that way. Nintendo is a business, they don’t care that a few people know about the older games, they care about the few recent games that have brought Fire Emblem out of the shadows (excuse the pun) and into the limelight.

          • Jay Bern

You’re also right, but the point Blade is making is that there’s no reason for them not to do it. This game had the potential to showcase older games in the series to get newer players interested in them. There’s literally no risk, so why not do it?

          • Radish

My guess is that if they see enough demand for those characters and enough sales of the game, they may add another DLC pack with older characters. They aren’t going to sink more resources in development than they have to. There’s a cost to all of it. And who knows? Maybe they’ve set this up so they can have an old character return in the new game they have cooking.

I just think it’s silly to expect them to not have most of the characters represented coming from the best selling games in the franchise.

          • Jay Bern

Those are my hopes, as well. I just hope they don’t take a whole year to get there, that’s all, or at least patch in Ike and/or Roy like they did with Medli in Hyrule Warriors.

          • Busterblade

It had the potential, sure, but where would those people go to get those games? They’re nearly impossible to obtain, unless you want to pay near 100 to get a 2nd hand copy.

          • Dunnington

“Nintendo is a business, they don’t care that a few people know about the older games”

I’m pretty sure that’s exactly what’s upsetting the fans of classic games. The fans that kept Fire Emblem going for as long as it did (up until the 3DS games) have been royally screwed by this game, and I say that as someone who enjoyed Awakening and Fates.
Warriors games tend to be a celebration of the franchise that they’re working with. Hyrule Warriors did pretty well, and representing TP, OoT, and SS pretty evenly, then spread out the roster with DLC. This game is so heavily leaning toward the last 2 games that out of 22 characters (counting the Avatars as a single character), a total of 7 aren’t from the 3DS games. 2 of those are OC’s. That’s ridiculous, whether you’re a fan of classic games or not. THEN, they throw out that the DLC will focus primarily on the same games that are already over-represented. How anyone can defend most of the choices made in this roster is beyond me. A business that throws their fans to the dirt is a business that loses fans.
Also, for the most part, VB has had some pretty valid complaints about the game. Your comment about enjoying watching his blood boil says a lot more about your maturity than his.

          • Carlos

Can you really blame them when those 2 games make up more than 1/3 of the sales of the entire franchise, and saved the the series from being discontinued?

          • Vigilante_blade

            Marketing saved the series.

          • Carlos

Either way, the series would be dead. Doesn’t change what I said.

          • Vigilante_blade

Thanks to marketing. Plus, thanks to all classic fans who participated in not only keeping that series alive, but you also fail to consider that those claasic fans were in the numbers that bought Awakening. You didn’t do it alone.

          • Carlos

How does anything you say change what i said from being right? If the games didn’t sell well the series would have ended. The classic fans that you mentioned weren’t enough to keep it going past the point that it was at.

          • Dragonage2ftw

Radiant Dawn had a lot of marketing.

More than Awakening, even. It still flopped.

          • Velen (Not WoW)

I think somewhere they mentioned wanting to make sequels.

But another thing I heard is that it was mentioned in a TGS stream that further DLC beyond the packs currently planned would be determined by popularity among the fans. So if that holds true, it would indicate a chance for Ike, Roy, and more to enter the game.

I will admit I am not quite happy with the roster as is. I was sincerely hoping for more Shadow Dragon reps than what we have. The lack of Weapon Triangle balance is also a bit grating.

I will buy the game, but only because I want there to be a chance of more DLC later.

          • Carlos

They said if the game sells well they may make a sequel.

          • Dunnington

It still blows my mind that Minerva isn’t in.
I’m probably going to get the game, but I 100% understand the unhappiness with the roster, as I’m clearly not all that happy with it either.

          • Vigilante_blade

I will not get it, but I appreciate your open mind on the matter.

          • Radish

You can’t compare the Fire Emblem franchise to the Zelda franchise. Zelda games make Nintendo money. Fire Emblem games don’t, only the recent ones do. There’s a reason Hyrule Warriors took characters from older Zelda games: players actually know them, want them, and have purchased those games many years ago as well as on virtual console.

They probably also have sales data from virtual console releases of the older Fire Emblem games to back up the lack of interest from most players. Sure it would be great if every character from every game could be included, but the proportions from each game reflect their popularity and it’s what makes most sense from a business and marketing perspective.

Fire Emblem is getting more support than most Nintendo franchises right now, and yet Fire Emblem fans, the few loud ones at least, seem to be more up in arms than ever.

          • Dunnington

“Sure it would be great if every character from every game could be included”
No one is asking for that, and if they are, it’s a stupid request. It’s impossible and unrealistic.

While I agree that sometimes the complaints about current FE can get out of hand, I find the people defending this roster far more ridiculous. There’s no reason that 75% of the roster should come from 2 games when there are 14(?) total in the series. If you think that’s the case, then maybe you should reconsider who’s being the unreasonable fan in this situation.

          • Vigilante_blade

Agreed. I feel that at times, some newer fans have this “as long as I am catered to, screw the rest of the fanbase” attitude that is extremely elitist.

          • Dunnington

Honestly. This article is covered in examples of newer FE fans showing far more elitism than classic FE fans. The hypocrisy is real.

          • Radish

75% of the roster is coming from games that got 75% of the Fire Emblem fanbase into Fire Emblem. Seems reasonable to me.

          • Dunnington

Lol 75% of the FE fanbase came from those games? That’s assuming a lot. But even if it were true, it screams entitlement due to popularity. If you’re going to throw that argument, then it’s hilarious to me that people are calling classic FE fans elitists. Literally all we’re asking for is more representation for the older games. What you’re saying is “The classic games are less popular, so they don’t deserve any reps.” If that doesn’t scream elitist, I don’t know what does. Either way, this is pointless; The roster isn’t changing until DLC comes out, and for some reason you’re adamantly against giving classic FE fans what they want. So i’m out.

          • Radish

If you are going to quote me, actually quote me. Don’t put a straw man inside quotes and pretend I said it.

I never said the old games don’t deserve any reps. Their reps should be proportional to their popularity/game sales. Yet the 25% of the Fire Emblem fanbase is demanding for more than 25% representation, and that’s not elitest?

By the way, if classic FE fans really care about the old games, they should support the Echoes game(s) and prove to Nintendo you put your money where your mouth is. Just the fact that they even made that game destroys your argument of Nintendo not giving classic fans anything.

        • Shirako Takamoto

Yea same here lol It tickles me so. Kicking back watching the salt fly in both directions is wonderful! This game for me is a dream come true so theres not a single thing for me to complain about.

        • JasonBall

Yes they will get more rep, which is fine. I argue, though, it’s unnecessarily unbalanced past the point needed for marketing/sales.

          • Radish

I find that the roster actually correlates quite well with the popularity of each specific game in the franchise. Though it seems even if they made a DLC pack with older characters, the older fans wouldn’t be willing to pay for it. The irony.

          • JasonBall

Saying a quarter of the roster being old characters matches a quarter of fans being old fans is dumb. They shouldn’t lump every game that isn’t 3ds into one sum.

Speaking of which, there should be way more Echoes characters if you’re doing that math thing. It’s a new game played by new players. So your new vs old doesn’t even work, this is stupid favoritism of Awakening and Fates by the devs

          • Radish

Interesting that you brought up Echoes, since it completely dismantles your argument of Fire Emblem devs not caring about the older games in the series.

A quarter of the roster being old characters matches a quarter of fans being old fans is basic math. If it were 50/50 it would be like saying the state of Wyoming should have the same number of electoral votes as the state of California.

          • JasonBall

Echoes is new. And has one rep. Blazing Blade is old. And has one rep. I think your percentage of new versus old doesn’t work because of that. They were in development for over a year together, so don’t bring that up.

I’m saying that whoever approved the roster, at Koei Tecmo, is really into Awakening/Fates and nothing else.

          • Radish

The “new vs old” is actually not my argument. My argument is that the sales data indicate popularity, not how new or old the game is. It just so happens that the newer games have sold far better than the older games.

Echoes is a remake of an old game, it isn’t a new Fire Emblem game with a new story. So yes, a game can be new, but still not sell well.

I could see the argument that the 25% older characters should be spread around a bit more, but asking for more than 25% representation is not proportional to the business model.

          • JasonBall

You know what, you’re right in some regards. You’ve taken the edge of my sting. However, there’s still the way they justified it being a lie.

          • Radish

Thanks, and I agree they probably made some BS excuse. I also wouldn’t be surprised if we do see more older characters revealed at some point if this game sells respectably.

          • Vigilante_blade

I am surprised he did not see the problems this would cause when some of his co-workers got so mad that they threatened to leave.

          • JasonBall

It was probably Hayashi or some other known perverted producer only focusing on the anime style fanservice games.

          • Vigilante_blade

Amusingly, it was a disservice to fans.

          • JasonBall

            To *some* fans.

          • Vigilante_blade

Considering a ot of the people who played Fates and Awakening also played past games, I think there is a lot a cross-fandom. To the point where even some Awakrning fans for exmaple might feel burned about the lack of past franchise units because they also liked these games. I’m rpetty sure a lot of people went back to replay these old games through emulaiton, so their sales are a bit irrelevant too. I know that mos tpeople who played PoR did it through Dolphin because the game is impossible to find at a reasonable price.

          • JasonBall

            All true.

          • Radish

On the contrary, if Awakening was a bad game it would have sold poorly. The Awakening fans who decided to delve into Fire Emblem’s past did so because Awakening was the game that got them into Fire Emblem. And these newer fans are going to be the ones that help get the older games remade ala Echoes.

You older fans are so unappreciative.

      • JasonBall

Usually I’m okay, because there’s obvious better sales potential for using more relevant new games in crossovers. Or only marketing the new game content. But this, is too much. It’s gone beyond the normal good business strategy. Plus the lie.

        • Fandangle

I mean, the game isn’t supposed to attract new people to the franchise, it’s supposed to be fanservice, for the fans that are already there. Warriors couldn’t be farther from an FE game if they tried. But then what’s the point of a fanservice game if it basically only focuses on 2 of the 15 installments?

      • JasonBall

        Holy **** your icon

        • Velen (Not WoW)

          *Pokes your Icon.*

          • JasonBall

            Are you implying something?

          • Vigilante_blade

            He say something about me?

          • JasonBall

            He said *pokes profile pic*

          • Velen (Not WoW)

If you think something negative, nope. I was drawing attention to the fact your icon is cool.

          • JasonBall

Oh thanks! One of the great full color drawings straight from the official Skyward Sword prologue manga. I’m wondering if I ought to change it to something else now that Vigilante has, mine has been this for a year or more, twas my first profile pic. Everyone else prominent here has had theirs for years.

          • JasonBall

Thanks. Should I change it now that Vigilante has? It’s ripped straight from the skyward sword manga.

          • Velen (Not WoW)

Nah, please don’t….-but you could if you wanted to. Got anything in mind?

          • JasonBall

It would be a different Link, I know that. Probably another official colored Akira Himekawa manga piece since I’ve never seen another person on Disqus or even YouTube comments with any of the manga art. Official game art, though, is prolific in profile icons so not that.

          • Velen (Not WoW)

I was just thinking another Disqus icon was in order. I’ve had this for about a year and a half.

          • JasonBall

Me too, about 1.5 years, it was my first custom icon as well, after using the generic silhouette for years.

          • JasonBall

            How is this?

          • Velen (Not WoW)

            Sweeeeeeet!

          • JasonBall

We should get the other prominent users to change. Then we’ll have something to talk about for a bit besides how much we hate each other for our opinions on video games.

        • Vigilante_blade

          What about it?

          • JasonBall

It’s gonna take a bit to get used to

          • Vigilante_blade

Oooh, yeah, I guess people associate me with Roy a lot. I really like him, but Soren is technically my favourite FE character.

        • RoadyMike

I legitimately did not recognize him

          • Vigilante_blade

            Lol, sorry for the inconvenience.

          • RoadyMike

            You are forgiven

            This time

          • Vigilante_blade

            Lol.

    • Trần Thế Hào

They already said from the start that this game character come from shadow dragon, awakening and fate so lacking of other games is expected from the start.

By saying that i expect mostly fate and awakening

      • Vigilante_blade

        Expected =/= good.

        • Trần Thế Hào

the game haven’t out yet. How could you sure it’s bad or not? Cause your fav char is not in it so it’s bad?

          • Vigilante_blade

It is on principle. Classic games save for SD rarely ever get any rep. We are fans as well and not being catered to even reasonably so, is unnacceptable.

      • JasonBall

You’re right, it was expected. That makes this roster no less stupid and their justification is still a flatout lie.

        • Trần Thế Hào

i find this roster fine. If the roster is full of star and fan fav that will be a bad roster. Since this is not ike or marth or any other story, but it the story of this world so the main lord is the twin so they should not let to much charisma character in the roster that completely over shadow the main hero.
Not to mention messing with fan fav char in the story might cause more problem if the developer do the character wrong.

i’m not defend this game, but you guys are jumping the gun too soon.

Atleast see what they could do with your stupid, awful roster first.

          • Vigilante_blade

They revealed the whole cast. We are not jumping the gun. And we should not have to buy DLC for some rep.

          • Radish

Actually you should buy DLC for some representation considering those early games sold so poorly. Put your money where your mouth is.

Or is that only good enough for the newer fans? Were you hoping to just ride the wave of success the new fans brought to the series?

          • JasonBall

The game is already out. It is not too soon. I actually defended it until recently when I learned of the DLC and now this.

        • Trần Thế Hào

let them mess with this one.

If that good, it might have a second or third game that include more and more character like other musou game

          • Vigilante_blade

We should not have to wait for another game.

          • Dragonage2ftw

So, where were you when the Zelda Musou did this exact same thing?

          • Vigilante_blade

Maining Young Link, a Majora’s mask character.

          • Dragonage2ftw

Okay, so then you know that this is standard Warriors game fare, and you’re just choosing to be ignorant.

          • Vigilante_blade

MM was not in the base game. Stop being ignorant yourself before claiming a another is ignorant.

          • Dragonage2ftw

            That’s literally my point.

  • Kevin

Not in the story mode pretty much means Lyn and Celica were added at the last minute

    • Tlink7

Or they couldn’t write them into the story, seeing how chaotic it already is

    • What sup Kevin. We’re a great community discord server of unofficial NE gamers, we disccus the lasting Nintendo news, sometimes we talk about FE a lot! if you are interested in the future the link is on my profile. Cheers!

  • Locky Mavo

Looks nice, can’t wait to finally play this. Baffled by the amount of characters, it’s been a while since I played a Dynasty Warriors game, and the most recent Warriors game I’ve played is Hyrule Warriors, which didn’t have the biggest roster. It looks so good! Hope it goes well enough to lead into a sequel.

  • Jaxon Holden

sigh… The Fire Emblem fanbase just pisses me off nowadays. All they do is complain. Getting worse than the Metroid fanbase

    • Radish

Apparently it’s not enough that they get multiple games every year. *sigh*

      • Exposer

Nope, they are complaining about the “If you are not a 3DS character you are unknow to us” thing, apparently Lyn and Celica were added at last minute and that why they look kinda bad in comparision or not even showed on the intro, in conclusion, you must play, know and love the 3DS games if you want to enjoy this…Which is not my case since i like the franchise, but dont have the console.

        • Radish

Go whine about it to the Earthbound fans who’ve been begging for Mother 3 for the past 10 years, and that’s just a port.

          • Exposer

Remmember the Mother 2 problems with the music? Apparently is the same here, si is very different since legal issues are not part if this.

          • Radish

Even if there is a legitimate reason for Mother 3 not getting ported, they haven’t made any new games for that franchise since 2006. My point still stands. Fire Emblem fans have an embarrassment of riches currently and all some of them can ever do is complain.

          • Exposer

Because NIntendo dosent want, since Itoi was literally the soul of the franchise, that wouldnt be a Mother game if they make something that dosent involve Itoi, with FE thats not the case since SHozo Kaga left IS 17 years ago andthe next one was Bindign Blade and Burning Blade which are some of the best game in the series.

          • Radish

They’ve made Kirby games without Sakurai. They’ve made Metroid games without Sakamoto. They’ve made Donkey Kong games without Miyamoto. Surely they can make an Earthbound game without Itoi. It’s just a matter of demand really.

          • MagcargoMan

“I want them to take away creative control from one of the very people in the industry who got to tell the story her wanted without meddling executives ruining it for him”
Yeah no, that’s extremely selfish and disrespectful. Just play the Mother 4 fangame when it comes out.

          • Radish

You need to learn how to quote people. It’s not done by making a straw man and putting quotes around it.

Secondly, Itoi is a he, not a her. Third, there’s no reason he couldn’t oversee the game being made, nor does Nintendo have to make a game within the confines of Itoi’s world or vision.

You look at it as “meddling executives” yet those same people (Iwata, etc) were responsible for Earthbound even being completed and shipped overseas. Otherwise the franchise would have been yet another Japanese 1-off that gets very little attention here.

          • MagcargoMan

            I know he’s a guy it was a typo.

The Mother story is finished. It’s not about him supervising, it’s about him telling the story he wanted to tell. It’s done. It’s over. You’ve got three games that aren’t gonna disappear from existence, so go enjoy them. Do you really think another one would play differently from EarthBound or Mother 3?

          • Radish

So wait, are you suggesting that because a series is complete there can be no more games from the franchise? With all the creative wizards at Nintendo they can’t possibly think of another way to make an Earthbound game? Wow, Nintendo isn’t as talented as I thought they were!

          • MagcargoMan

No, I’m saying Itoi made his series the way he wanted and in a world where most creators don’t have a say in when their shows or games end, I respect that Itoi got to.

          • Radish

Good, his Mother series ended. Now they can make another series with those characters.

          • MagcargoMan

You don’t really get it, do you? Whatever…

          • Radish

You’re right. I don’t get why a franchise can’t have more than one series. Perhaps you can explain that one to me.

          • MagcargoMan

It’s not another series if it’s the same characters and same gameplay.

          • Radish

It doesn’t have to be the same characters or the same gameplay. And even if it was, Nintendo has done this with all of their franchises.

          • JasonBall

            This whole exchange is silly

          • Radish

Yeah, I didn’t think it would turn into that. Though this exchange made me wonder if the current Earthbound fan base would be as unappreciative of a new game in the franchise (without Itoi) as the Fire Emblem fan base is with Awakening. And let’s assume the new game got as highly rated as Awakening.

          • JasonBall

A potential 4 would be hated without Itoi. Also, it would only happen if 3 were localized first. Which everyone will hate because it won’t be the fan translation.

          • Radish

So a 4th game that gets a 92 metacritic rating would be hated simply because Itoi was not involved (or maybe he looks at it like Miyamoto is with Mario). And the 3rd game that is being begged for endlessly for a western release would be hated because they wouldn’t use the fan translation. This is why fans of games can be problematic. It used to be that you could enjoy a game and that was enough. Now it has to meet this list of demands in order to be acceptable.

          • JasonBall

            I agree.

          • Shirako Takamoto

Its like Metal Gear without Kojima…its just not the same T.T

          • Exposer

Those are platformers and FPS, im talking about the script which is another thing, remmember that Itoi write every single text of dialogue, no joking, BUT if they remade the trilogy, that a totally diferent thing.

          • Shonenfan

            Yup. Entitled fans

          • Vigilante_blade

A subset of the new fanbase feels extremely entitled to get exclusive representation. If we are talking entitlement, we should look this way.

          • Shonenfan

I mostly was talking about those fans on neogaf/ gamefaqs.

          • Vigilante_blade

I might misunderstand you since I blocked the person you answered. Sorry if that was the case.

      • Velen (Not WoW)

        https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/a9ed2846754bff5eb0214e494660c4e247b73169828f5bec7b5ad1bb520f8be4.png

I think you should give that a look over. This excludes remakes and spin-offs. FE fans don’t get games as often as you think.

        • Radish

2015- Fire Emblem Fates (3 games in 1), Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE

2017- Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia, Fire Emblem Heroes, Fire Emblem Warriors.
2018- Fire Emblem Switch, DLC for Fire Emblem Warriors.

Excluding remakes and spin-offs would also mean that there are less than 20 Mario games. I guess that’s a franchise that isn’t being supported well by Nintendo either.

          • Velen (Not WoW)

That doesn’t disprove anything. Unlike Mario, which is made literally every year, pretty much in some form or another *because* he is Nintendo’s mascot, Fire Emblem (and other franchises) are not.

-and your logic falls completely flat anyway, because even without the various remakes or spin-offs, Mario as a franchise has more entries and more support than Fire Emblem on a regular basis.

          • Radish

My point wasn’t to show that Fire Emblem is on equal footing as Mario, that’s ridiculous. My point was that if you take out everything but the mainline games there are only about 15 or so Mario games made in 34 years. And 12 Fire Emblem Games since 1990.

So obviously you have to include spinoffs and remakes and because their very existence means the franchise is flourishing at the moment. Kinda like when they were pumping out Metroid games left and right in the early 2000s and you get a spinoff pinball game as a result.

My point remains that there have been a lot more Fire Emblem games recently due to their renewed popularity thanks to Awakening and Fates.

          • Pinkie-Dawn

According to this video, it was marketing that saved Fire Emblem, not Awakening nor Fates:

          • Velen (Not WoW)

It’s a good video but it’s still just someone’s opinion based on their analysis.

          • Radish

That’s an interesting video, but unfortunately his entire argument falls apart rather easily. He argues that Fire Emblem Awakening’s success is entirely due to advertising and its timing of release. He even states that “even if Fire Emblem Awakening was the worst game in the series, it still would have sold well.”

The fact of the matter is that no Fire Emblem game has a higher metacritic review score than Fire Emblem Awakening. He contends it is because Fire Emblem is the type of game that journalists love, yet when compared to other Fire Emblem games it’s on top. Fates is a newer game than Awakening and while it also had high scores, it was still a few ticks below Awakening. If Awakening had the same advertising and timing but was a bad game, the reviews would have been bad and more importantly the sales would have slowed down dramatically as people realized how bad it was.

This didn’t happen. Fire Emblem Awakening saved the franchise, and the people who won’t admit that have some personal vendetta against the game because it was “too casual” for them (as demonstrated in this video).

          • Pinkie-Dawn

One of the contributors from a Disquis group I moderate in also agrees with your point because he sees this video as “another example of Pretendos rallying to try and downplay a game’s success” and mentioned that these old-school FE fans are doing this by “pretending that ANY previous Fire Emblem game could have had greater success if it had had Awakening’s marketing and waifus.”

          • Vigilante_blade

            Pretendos don’t exist.

          • Pinkie-Dawn
          • Vigilante_blade

Josh Thomas is a huge Nintendo apologist who is part of the Nintendo creators program and censors his own judgement… You are delusional.

Just because someone is critical, they aren’t pretending. And who cares if someone is a fan or not? You should be smart enough to have your own opinions.

          • Pinkie-Dawn

Nintendo apologist? That’s where you’re wrong:

            https://disqus.com/home/discussion/channel-videogamefacts/woah_really_makes_you_think/

Thing is these people who are “criticizing” is either not staying true to their word or using arguments that are already debunked:

            https://theheroes7.wordpress.com/2017/02/01/nintendo-is-completely-destroying-pretendo-complaints/

          • Freya

Yet Shadows of Valentia couldn’t even retain at least half of Fates/Awakening audience. If the SOV came out after RD/SD, it would’ve sold way worse.

    • ronin4life

Honestly? This is common within the Nintendo “Fanbase”. Every few years, particularly once Nintendo starts hitting a stride, people start getting increasingly impatient with them.

Sony, Microsoft, Blizzard, heck even EA and Ubi don’t have fanbases that act like this. Do people criticize and attack these companies for their faults? Sure. But they have armies of apologists that take flack for them who will never speak ill of them at all. Nintendo has the opposite: Hordes of “Fans” that seem to get madder and madder the more successful the companies recent endeavors happen to be.

      • Fandangle

        Companies shouldn’t have fanbases.

      • It’s really strange how it works too. One wouldn’t think it (especially since Nintendo is so successful), but that’s exactly what it is.

Someone said FE fans are starting to get worse than Metroid fans, and I agree. It’s not that fans have to like every game or piece of content within their series; but they act like having one bit off (or, not what they specifically want) means the product is complete trash and like it doesn’t count as a piece of the series.

And it’s funny because these people get so spoiled. Heck, even if the last couple of Metroid games were not what fans wanted and may have been questionable in quality, their series has still been getting nice merch. I don’t see Captain Falcon or Lip getting figmas. Where is Drill Dozer’s love?

Sony and XBO fans can be such a level of obnoxious and toxic, but Nintendo fans are incredibly entitled when at their worst.

    • Exposer

No, you are tired of the complains in general, thats all, but lets be honest the criticism is 70% justified, you can not make “A celebration of the franchise” just with the “popular” characters, is like that Marvel vs Capcom infinite, they pulled out the xmen, beacuse Fox and replace it with the MCU because profits and “popularity”, it ended bad because Xmen is part of Marvel the Non 3DS characters are part of the FE series.

      • Velen (Not WoW)

        I have a couple questions.

At what point was this game ever called a celebration of the franchise during it’s development?

Wasn’t that just what the fanbase decided to call it based on literally nothing when it was first revealed back at the Switch presentation?

        • NintendoPSXTheSecond

KT/Nintendo not once ever called it a “celebration of the franchise”. They merely called it what it is, Fire Emblem Warriors.

        • Exposer

Im pretty sure i heard that at one point of early development, at least im sure that i heard that they dont want too many swords in this game.

          • Velen (Not WoW)

What they actually said was posted by Carlos earlier.

      • Vigilante_blade

I appreciate you argument. I think it holds up fairly well.

      • Vigilante_blade

I have to admit. I find this intolerance for criticism unhealthy. I have no idea why some people get so triggered at other people having complaints.

        • Radish

It’s not the complaints. It’s the fact that because it doesn’t have my favorite characters therefore the entire game is garbage and I will never buy it. There’s no nuanced view there. You just hate it in its entirety because your favorite characters aren’t in the game. If it doesn’t meet your specific wishes, it’s absolute garbage.

If the complaints weren’t so childish, people wouldn’t get sick and tired of it because it wouldn’t just be whining.

        • Exposer

Most people who said “stop complaining” are people that are already satisfied because are already in the game and i asure you that if it was in the other way those same people would shouting for Lucina, Camila or other 3DS characters.

          • Vigilante_blade

Obviously. They are still asking for Tharja and Azura as if they didn’t have enough rep already. It is a case of “I’m happy so shut up. They must cater only to new fans. Go away”. It is this attitude that makes classic FE fans annoyed. Only difference is that we want to be included while they want to be exclusively catered to.

        • Shonenfan
          • Vigilante_blade

I see, but undersand that I really, really love some Fire Emblem games, and I am eprosnally tired of Awakening and Shadow Dragon, and now Fates taking up all of the space. I cannot buy the game on principle, or this will never change.

          • Shonenfan

I expected characters from each game to show up. With at least 1 or 2 secondary characters. Well what can you do about it: hopefully dlc will bring justice to have more fire emblem characters bring to justice.

    • Kevin

It’s almost as if in a crossover game….the roster matters!

    • Aline Piroutek

It is like to do a new Smash game only with the original rooster. Obviously we would complain.

      • Radish

Oh don’t even bring up Smash. People complain every time a Smash game is released, regardless of what characters are included. “BUT IT DOESN’T HAVE (fill in the blank)!”
All the whining doesn’t mean anything because they make so much money off Smash no matter what they do.

        • Pinkie-Dawn

The worst came from the Ridley supporters.

          • Radish

Lol Ridley and Ice Climbers supporters were going crazy as usual.

          • Pinkie-Dawn

Ice Climbers was understandable because 3DS limitations caused them to be axed until the next game, but with Ridley? Hooo boy. Lets just say spending my years lurking through Smashboards and his supporters’ thread was a pretty wild ride.

  • AquaBat

Sixty dollarydoos for this game and 20 plus tip for the season pass and this is their roster.

    • Dragonage2ftw

Free DLC isn’t good enough for you?

  • Jay Bern

I don’t mean to tell Koei how to do their jobs for them and I’m still really looking forward to this game, but jeez. Literally anyone could make a better roster than this, and that includes even the newer fans they seem to be catering to.

And yeah. The sword argument is a bunch of junk. They seriously expect us to believe they’re creative enough to combine Fire Emblem and Dynasty Warriors but not creative enough to work around their own rules? How about just giving them different weapons like how Chrom can use lances in Awakening? Or here’s a better idea. Ditch the weapon triangle and make the strength/weakness thing based on elements like in Hyrule Warriors. There. Problem solved. Throw in as many sword users as you want.

    *cough* Roy and Ike *cough*

    • Dragonage2ftw

Right. Because forcing characters to use weapons that they aren’t famous for using and removing a FE mechanic is a smart idea.

They wanted to avoid having TOO MANY LORDS. The idea is that you can feel what class you’re playing as.

Roy and Ike would be having too many Lords. Also, they’re too unpopular.

      • Jay Bern

That may have been the idea, but considering A) not all Lords use swords (i.e. Ephraim from Sacred Stones), B) feeling what class you play as doesn’t really matter considering every character has a unique moveset regardless of whether or not they’re the same class as another character, and C) As we can clearly see from the backlash, the decision ultimately wasn’t worth it.

And as for Ike and Roy not being popular, Smash 4. ‘Nuff said.

        • Dragonage2ftw

          The backlash has been minuscule.

          • Jay Bern

Only if you consider fans of the older games nothing more than a vocal minority, which they’re not considering Fire Emblem is a fourteen-game franchise and only three are being properly represented in this game.

          • Dragonage2ftw

            It’s more like 5 or 9 out of 14.

Many of the FE games are remakes/sequels. Most of which were remakes/sequels of Marths games.

          • Jay Bern

Okay, then we’ll readjust the numbers. Not counting remakes or each version of Fates as its own game, there are currently 12 Fire Emblem games. Only three have received proper representation, technically four if we count Mystery of the Emblem, and we’re not counting Blazing Sword or Shadows of Valentia since one character from each isn’t proper representation. That’s still over half of the fanbase being ignored.

  • NintendoPSXTheSecond

Still buying it, dissenters be damned. This roster is already more than HW at launch and it will have more than HW with DLC combined. Worth it in my book. Doing cool DW combo’s and actions with FE characters is all I needed. Hell, my favorites weren’t even added but I ain’t crying.

More than Hyrule Warriors at launch…if you don’t include the multiple weapons and the fact that some characters in FEW are literal moveset clones with their only differences being stat spreads. oops

      • NeptuniasBeard

It still edges out Hyrule Warriors, even if only barely. Not counting those we know are clones (Lucina, 2 Pegasus knights) That’s 18 for Hyrule Warriors (counting unique weapons) and 22 for FE Warriors. And worst case scenario Anna, Owain, Navarre AND Niles are all clones, that makes them tied, assuming villain characters are either true NPCs or Robin clones.

If my math is correct :p

        • Fandangle

Worst case scenario Every character that hasn’t been announced already is paid DLC.

        • Aiddon

Sakura and Elise are clones of Takumi and Leo actually. This was always going to be a problem with trying to adapt FE to the Warriors template

          • NeptuniasBeard

Elise I’ll give you, but Sakura really only has the basic arrow moves in common with Takumi from what I’ve seen.

          • Aiddon

No, it’s pretty much the same. Only difference is her super.

          • NeptuniasBeard

I haven’t seen her do anything that replicates Takumi’s Fujin yumi which comes up in several of his strong attacks

        • Velen (Not WoW)

I still contest to them being clones.

          • NeptuniasBeard

It’s a fair argument to make. But in comparison to Lucina and Celica, at least Sakura and Elise also bring healing to the table.

          • Vigilante_blade

There is no actual healing moves on them.

  • WHY OWAIN NO GIVE ME THARJA!!

    • Addy

      Tharja? More like Thongja!

      • Fandangle

        Thongja? More like Thighja!

        • Velen (Not WoW)

          Thighja? More like BOOBJA…
          Oh wait.

        • Addy

          And joke ruined.

    • NintendoPSXTheSecond

I guarantee you Tharja and Azura are DLC for their respective packs. I can’t wait personally.

  • YAY OBORO!!

  • Why the gay dude Niles in here.
    Good lord. Lame choice.

    • Carlos

      What’s wrong with choosing Niles?

      • Everything

        • Niles/Zero is bi not gay lol it’s like suddenly you forget he can have a daughter.

          • I dont care once a man like another man there no going back

          • Pinkie-Dawn

What if he looks and dresses like a girl? Would that still count?

          • Trap is a Trap LOL

          • Pinkie-Dawn

From what I’ve been told, the word “trap” is actually a derogatory towards to the trans community, which means the anime community would be transphobic.

          • who knows?

          • That’s true. And that word is gross for a good reason. The use of it is transphobic by the anime community, but some trans people are in the community and try to educate people on that~.

          • Don’t say something that is incorrect about a character. Last Time I remember someone that’s Gay/Lesbian only likes the one gender, the one that’s the same as them but that’s not what Niles/Zero is, he likes them both ways he is a booty warrior >:O and the term is once you go black you can never go back <:O

        • Carlos

          Ok, so no reason. Gotcha.

    • Tlink7

God forbid gay people get one option when you have like twenty oversexualised waifus to choose from…

      • God created beautiful people.
        God didn’t create gay people.

People choose to be gay so therefore. Those sexy females are acceptable

        • Pinkie-Dawn

Gay is actually something to be born with though:

          • nah I can’t believe something like that. Now if you said it’s something that can be developed overtime with the type of gender you relate to then yes. But born with nah nah

          • Pinkie-Dawn

There is no evidence that being gay is a choice though, what we’ve got is evidence suggesting that being gay is something to be born with and has been present even in other animals.

        • Tlink7

God didn’t create ”those sexy females”, smart character designers did…

I know this is futile, but being gay IS NOT a choice. Period. People are homosexual from the day they are born. Now, God supposedly created mankind in his own image, so either God is gay, the bible is wrong or both. But please don’t have children, there is enough ignorance in this world already, as you so nicely demonstrate

          • Pinkie-Dawn

But he needs to have children or else his bloodline will go extinct just like other subspecies of the same animals.

        • Vigilante_blade

I know this a troll account, but there are limits.

          • nope. This is my official account. I don’t own troll account. What I said in that comment is what I really feel and got a problem with it oh well.
            http://i0.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/original/000/774/489/829.jpg

          • Vigilante_blade

I refuse to think that a human with the base level of intelligence to use a keyboard can think like this unironically.

          • Once again. However you may feel about what I said is not my problem.

          • Pinkie-Dawn

Says the guy who refuses to take criticism from users who make rebuttals of your posts in the past.

          • Vigilante_blade

Your inability to convince me has nothing to do with my level of “stubborness”.

If you fail to convince me, come up with an argument that will.

          • Pinkie-Dawn

So you’re going to ignore the rebuttals you received by Radish for the article’s comment section?

          • Addy

He blocked Radish some time ago. He may block you you too and would not be surprising.

          • Pinkie-Dawn

            Indeed it wouldn’t.

        • Velen (Not WoW)

Wrong. Animals are capable of being gay in nature. So therefore being gay is something that can happen naturally and not by choice.

          Biology proves you wrong.

          Take your bulls### somewhere else.

          • animals are animals not human. Humans were created in God image. God didn’t create us to be gay. The End.
And again. However yall may feel is not my problem.

          • Velen (Not WoW)

Sorry, saying “The End” doesn’t mean you’ve won.

Your logic is insufficient. You have no proof humanity was made in God’s image. You made the claim, the burden of proof is on you.

By the way, pointing to the Bible will not win you any points here. So I suggest you look elsewhere for your proof or risk making a fool of yourself.

          • Since when did I say I won?
All I said was The End. You’re using Internet definition why?

          • Pinkie-Dawn

God doesn’t care if you’re gay or straight, he just wants us to be good people.

Next you’ll be telling me that dinosaurs don’t exist because of their absence in the Bible.

          • Not really. I never really cared if dinosaurs exist or not. Whether they do or not really doesn’t mean much to me.

    • Princess_Eevee9

Why Niles and not his sister Ninian yeah?

      • Vigilante_blade

Ninian is not his sister. I think you confuse him with Nils.

    • Pinkie-Dawn

Cuz he is voiced by DIO in Japan.

      • Did not know that. Wow, that is so sexy.

  • Jay Bern

On the somewhat slim bright side, no Severa in sight.

…yeah, I don’t like Severa. Love Awakening, but a good chunk of the child characters can bite me, if I’m honest.

    • Shirako Takamoto

Lol To each their own i guesd. Id die happy if Orphelia or Nyx gets in. Or freakin Kadin or Keaton.

  • Fandangle

I figured out what they would have gotten if they added just important characters from every installment in the series and I got 26 characters total, 9 sword users, 2 bow users, 5 axe users, 5 magic users, 4 lance users (6 if you give 2 of the sword users alternate weapons), and 1 dragon stone user with 2 pegasus knights, 2 dragon riders, and 1 cavalier. Plus whatever you want to make Anna into (I’d make her a bow user). Then if you wanted to splurge a bit there is 5 more characters you could add, 3 lance users, though two could also wield swords, one magic user and one axe user.

If they actually added every main lord (excluding most the royal cast of Fates and Geneology) they would actually have a more even balance of weapons than they do now. Their roster is god awful.

    • Gigalomaniac

I would get a game with that roster even if I would only know a fraction of the characters. I think it would be a good opportunity for people to see characters from all the games in action (besides FE Heroes) and for the developers to see if any of the games would be worth remaking.

      • Vigilante_blade

I honestly see crossovers as opportunities to learn about the history of the series. I imagine that future Echoes games are coming.

        • Gigalomaniac

I agree. I think we should get more Echoes games also; I am curious as to what the timing of release will end up being since the next original title supposedly will be out next year. Might not be until 2019 unless they already have them in the works.

    • ronin4life

      That… isn’t true
Off the top of my head with my imperfect Fire Emblem knowledge(I know next to nothing about the games with Seliph and Sigurd):

Sword: Marth, Alm, Celica, Seliph, Sigurd, Lyn, Elliwood, Roy, Ike, Sothe, Chrom, Lucina, Corrin, Xander, Ryoma

Not sword: Ceada, Hector, Lillina, Micaiah, and the 6 lordling siblings of Fates.

You are wrong on both counts: 15 – 10 Sword to non-sword and the Fates Lordlings actually make up the majority of non-sword users…

      • Fandangle

Celica can use magic so I gave her magic, Alm can use Bows so I gave him a Bow. For diversity’s sake I also gave Eliwood a spear instead of a sword. They clearly have no qualms with giving the characters alternative weapons (I’m looking at you Lissa, Sakura, and Elise) so I figured that I would sacrifice their primary weapon for diversity’s sake. Alm’s signature sword is the Falchion anyway. I didn’t see the point of adding it. I didn’t even consider Sothe at all in my character listing. If you want I can post my logic and choices.

      • Fandangle

Half of the sword users half alternate weapons. The devs don’t care about staying consistent anyway as they put three healers with alternate weapons in.

Celica uses magic as much as she uses a sword and her signature weapon isn’t even a sword, beloved zofia is a dagger. Alm can use bows easily enough, Eliwood can use lances, Ike’s great sword is hardly the same as a straight sword as well. And again I didn’t even consider sothe for the roster. I also didn’t put Sigurd in because I felt Seliph and Leif were better choices, but sigurd can weird lances as well.

        • Dragonage2ftw

Except the healers still use staffs to heal.

Your logic is awful. “LET’S GIVE CHARACTERS THE WEAPONS THEY’RE NOT KNOWN FOR!!!!!!!!! THAT’LL MAKE THEIR FANS HAPPY.”

          • Fandangle

Calm down my friend. I’m just pointing out that they clearly don’t have any qualm with changing weapons from other characters. Heck IS doesn’t either, heroes has characters wielding weapons they couldn’t possibly wield in their original game. It’s not an issue and I feel fans would forgive them for their dedication to variety while delivering characters from across the series that fans all love.

You could also totally make a staff deal some kind of damage. Half of Hyrule warriors cast was non combatants.

  • StrawhatEevee

Even bigger news than the roster leak? That functioning image gallery! Make it like that for every story, please! It’s beautiful.

  • Aiddon

About what I expected. Now I await the screams of the FE fanbase that is in dire need of a pruning

    • Fandangle

Prune everyone who only played Awakening and Fates and you’re golden.

      • Indielink

To be fair, some people have to start somewhere. Can’t really blame young fans for starting with the newest games in the series. And it’s not like older FE games are particularly easy to find. It took me a while to hunt down copies of the GC ones that were reasonably priced.

        • Vigilante_blade

I do not mind new fans existing, but I have issues with a subset of them acting like elitists and mocking us for getting no rep at all.

          • ronin4life

Except you guys are the only elitists here on this thread. Not only dressing down commentors and fans but the series itself and this newest title.

          • Vigilante_blade

How are we elitists? Please explain. All I see is people shouting “elitist” at the mere preference for classic games. People have to stop claiming that liking an old game is automatically elitist.

If anything, I see classic fans going “us too!” and new fans going “just us!”

        • Fandangle

The problem is new fans don’t want to play older ones.

Awakening is called the most casual game in the series because it allows the lowest common denominator to play. The issue is it doesn’t encourage you to actually challenge yourself and gives you every opportunity to make the game easier. Awakening’s entire design is to give to the player whole older games were stricter and more challenging and MUCH less forgiving.

And it’s not like older FE games are particularly easy to find. It took me a while to hunt down copies of the GC ones that were reasonably priced.

my honest suggestion? Just pirate them. Nintendo and IS aren’t going to see a dime from used copy sales and importing a Japanese copy of the older games is rough. Every game but 5 has a full translation and 5’s script is readily available online.

Part of the reason the “awakening save the franchise!” Argument is crap is because this. Nintendo has basically been abusing this series constantly starting with PoR. It wasn’t even selling particularly badly either which makes awakening all the more infuriating.

      • ronin4life

Those people saved Fire emblem by buying these games, while most of you whiners probably enjoyed the earlier titles you worship by pirating english translations.

The only chance you have that this series keeps up its popularity are these New fans. Without them and their business there would be no mobile game, no Gaiden remake, no warriors or its dlc nor its revisions, no FE Switch and no potential remakes of other Japan only titles like Blazing Blade.

You “fans” are literally complaining about nothing, and would rather see the whole thing burned down than not have your favorite games represented in a 3rd party spinoffs *initial roster* of characters, which will be the largest initial roster in crossover warriors history.

        • Radish

Very well said. I couldn’t agree more. It’s almost like they are upset that more people are looking at Fire Emblem now so it’s not “hipster” anymore. It’s gone mainstream and they don’t like that.

        • Vigilante_blade

You realize that there would be no Awakening if not from us? Heck, there wouldn’t be FE in North America if not from us. Where were you when Nintendo brought this series to he west? You have no grounds to criticize us. I paid money for my FE games and evangelized this series for years. Don’t use a strawman.

          • Radish

Actually it had more to do with Marth and Roy being added to Smash Bros than anything else. That spawned GBA games and DS games in the west. It wasn’t until Awakening that new fans put the franchise back on the radar.

          • Carlos

Truer words have never been spoken.

If it wasn’t for Super Smash Bro Melee, we probably wouldn’t even have seen a western release of Fire Emblem.

        • Fandangle

The series did and still does need saving. It needs saving from nintendo and IS. I honestly would rather the series die than get another game like fates.dumb stupid pandering to the lowest common denominator.

          pirating english translations.

yeah and? In order to play them you’d need a Japanese system and the Japanese games and you need to know japanese and pay importing fees.

Then there is problems like under stocking PoR and RD to the point that you pretty much have to pirate if you don’t want to pay egregious amounts to actually play it, and trust me, I’ve been looking. The American market for old fire emblem games is so ridiculous that people are driving up the price of Japanese copies as well.

The choices are literally pay ridiculous amounts of money or piracy, tell me what you would do in that situation?

And yes us actual fans who’ve actually played the games are actually complaining about an issue awakening fans wouldn’t understand because they’re not fans. You can’t play one game then magically you’re a fan of the entire series. Actual fanatic dedication is more than that, and developing an appreciation for a franchise is also important. People hate Awakening’s and fates’ casualness because all the fans it brought in are casual, they don’t care about the same mechanics they don’t like
the same focus, they prefer Awakening’s style of characters more, and they’re negatively effecting the series because of it. The devs intentionally made awakening to sell which is a big issue, which is why a lot of people who have played older games call it bland, because it is bland. It’s just accessible and borderline weebtrash.

a 3rd party spinoffs *initial roster* of characters, which will be the largest initial roster in crossover warriors history.

you’re literally throwing every bad argument and the kitchen sink at
me? Well let’s start off with the third party bit. The game is licensed, KT can’t make a game like this without going through nintendo. That’s literally how business works. Nintendo had to approve everything in the game otherwise KT could have literally made an officially licensed hentai game.

Largest initial roster doesn’t mean anything. There are clones in the game making the laziness that is warriors even lazier. Crossover warriors games are supposed to be a celebration of a franchise. This is the celebration of whiney fanboys who bought one of the bland est games in the franchise and played on easy mode. Yeah the old fans are totally the entitled ones, not people like you who are happy that fates and awakening got 2/3rds the cast and a handful of SD characters were added as an afterthought. No one even likes SD. It’s tokenism at its worst. At this point it feels like the laziest cash in imaginable.

And yes the initial roster. The fans of older games sure are excited to pay 40 extra bucks to get characters they held off on adding just so they could add them in later and make us pay for them.

          • Dragonage2ftw

Your salty tears and butthurt is palatable.

Newsflash: Nintendo doesn’t care about older fans. If they left the franchise to you, then the franchise would be dead due to the awfulness of RD and PoR.

Leave. We don’t need elitists who call newer fans stupid in this fanbase.

          • Fandangle

I think you need to step away from your computer for a bit and calm down, read a book, play a game, or do something you enjoy for a little bit. Fire emblem warriors isn’t important enough to get this riled up over.

          • Vigilante_blade

You are the elitist. You are the one asking us to “leave” and to not ve part of the fandom when we made Awakening and Fates possible not only by keeping the series alive for so long, but also by buying those new games. We worked together on that and your insistance to try and alienate us from the fanbase is elitist and honestly immature and disgusting. You honestly should thank us. We made it possible for FE to exist in the west and to exist at all. Without us, that series would be long dead.

As for PoR and RD, I consider them the greatest games in the series. However, the GC sold fairly poorly, FE tends to invariably do better on portables, the Wii was already announced, it had incredibly low stocks and very few outlets bothered to review it. All of this combined with no marketing at all created the ideal storm for the game to fail. As for RD, a direct sequel for a game that is very story-driven that no one can even find.

Technically, they sold every copy of PoR and RD they did not make enough.

Before using the word “elitist to try and discredit us, stop being one.

  • Snackster1001

Is this all DLC? If not, then wow, that’s way more characters than I expected. Hopefully this means that the DLC packs aren’t limited to just what game the pack is based on

    • Fandangle

The characters that aren’t confirmed to be unlockable yet are more than likely DLC characters they’ll add in with paid DLC or free updates later down the line.

  • Santoryu02

Just my opinion, but I really like how they added some characters that weren’t necessarily main characters. Sure, some people are going to be pretty unhappy when their specific favorite character didn’t make it in but there are way too many characters in each series.

In almost all Fire Emblem games that I’ve played, my strongest and favorite units aren’t the Lords / Main characters. It makes my playthroughs seem like a custom story based on my experiences, and that’s what I like about a Fire Emblem game.

Of course, choosing the Main Characters of various games is more likely to satisfy a broader range of fans. But the ridiculous amount of swords because of that… is unfortunate. I don’t really understand why all 3 original characters use swords though.

  • Tlink7

    No Azura ;-;

    • CoffeeMarbles

Azura’s supposed to be in the DLC, though granted I also don’t get why they dropped her from being in the main storyline

      • Tlink7

Oh I thought the characters we saw here were the DLC? Or did I just misread?

  • Aline Piroutek

“Our focus is Awakening and Fates only”
    Whyyyyyy?
    Kozaki Yuusuke colaboration?

    • Simtopia23

Because they are the two best selling fire emblem, and they suppose most of the fans discovered this series with those two games.

      • Vigilante_blade

Sure, they can get some rep, but you cover a wider range of people if you also include other games.

  • Tlink7

Also, Validar? Why not Walhart or even Grima?

    • Velen (Not WoW)

Cause Validar is ironically more important than Walhart and Grima is basically Robin from the Future?

      • Tlink7

Maybe, but Validar is more boring than the other two if you ask me, just a dark mage. TK could have done some cool evil Robin/Grima combo’s for Grima, a bit like when you face Grima on his back at the end of Awakening. As for Walhart… I love that guy, he has a super awesome theme, great motives and I’m very biased regarding him 😀

        • Velen (Not WoW)

Well to be fair, I would’ve loved to have Walhart just for the sake of memes.

          “I am Walhart!!”
          “Walmart? :3c”
          “WALHART!!!”
          “Wilbert? :3c”
          “DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!”

    • Pinkie-Dawn

      And why not Gangrel?

      • Tlink7

…oh yeah, I totally forgot about him xD he was a pretty good villain actually, he was just a big a$$ troll instead of being evil because CORRUPSHUNS

        • Vigilante_blade

He was a vilain? He seemed as threatening as the bullies from Power Rangers. He as like a social justice warrior that was throwing a tantrum because tumblr is down.

  • Princess_Eevee9

Niles and not Dragon Sister Ninian? Hmm eh I still like em I suppose, he is adorable too!

    • CoffeeMarbles

      “Niles” and Ninian??
You mean… Nils? Two vastly different games here, my friend

      • Princess_Eevee9

Those two siblings Nils & Ninian right. Ones who were important in Fire Emblem: Blazing Blade.

  • Carlos

Can people stop saying they said “too many sword users”. This is the quote.

    • Vigilante_blade

“Everyone would have swords”. He literally said “too many swords”.

      • Radish

I don’t think you know what the word “literally” means.

      • Carlos

I gave you the quote and you’re still putting words in his mouth. “Everyone would have swords” is not the same thing as “too many swords”.

If “everyone had swords”, than having “too many swords” wouldn’t be a problem since everyone would have the same type of weapon and there couldn’t be “too many” of them if they’re all the same type anyway.

If there were “too many swords” that would imply that there was at least one other type of weapon so “everyone” couldn’t have a sword.

        • Vigilante_blade

It’s the same thing, not to mention that there are lords without swords and it wouldn’t be enough to nmake up the whole cast. Plus, it doesn’t explain why they added non-lord sword units.

          • Carlos

It’s not the same thing, but ok.
Maybe those characters weren’t popular enough.
They probably added them because they were some popular of the popular choices.

We don’t know why they chose the characters, since none of work for the team behind this. I’m sure they had their reasons.

          • Vigilante_blade

Ike and Roy are top 3 units in almost every poll they conduct. Hector is usually top 5. Ephraim is usyally top 10. Recent polls placed Chrom at number 5 in the male division under Ike, Roy, Hector, Ike again. They are more than popular enough.

  • MagcargoMan

Awakening X Fates Warriors: Featuring Marth and Lyn from the Fire Emblem series

And wow Shadow Dragon got rather slim pickings despite being one of the three games in focus. Where’s Jagen?

  • HvnlyDaze

    13 characters from Fates… Jesus Christ. :/

  • Vigilante_blade
    • Radish

Nice, now I have something to post every time you say “mobile games aren’t real games”, or “mobile games are crap”.

      • MagcargoMan

        Lol

    • JasonBall

Did you make that? It’s brilliant.

      • Vigilante_blade

Nah, but I found it funny.

        • JasonBall

          It’s brilliant

        • JasonBall

Lol didn’t even realize I had already said brilliant before. I have poor comment memory I guess

      • Velen (Not WoW)

I contest the whole “Looks like a cutscene from Sonic Adventure” thing though. Kinda feels like he’s just trying to be mean there. :

The rest is pretty spot on though.

        • JasonBall

The opening movie gave me chills. Best part of the game hands down. Whereas the rendered ingame scenes look like ****.

Still, comparing it to Sonic Adventure is taking it too far, IMHO. : (

            Whose account? Velen or Vigilante?

  • SetzerGabbiani

I can almost guarantee that all of those NPC characters and villains will be playable at some point.

I’m actually satisfied with the roster. Hector, Ephraim, Ike, etc. will only sweeten the deal.

Hopefully all these secret characters are either unlockable in the game or added as free DLC. Just like they added Cia, Volga, and Wizzro to Hyrule warriors in a patch. But if they have a side story people would probably have to pay for that T_T
I’ll be picking up the game the day it launches XD
But seriously guys lets not be so nit picky on the character roster, or degrade the game before even playing it. People who have actually played the game are enjoying the characters, and how interesting they each are.

Yes it heavily favors the newer characters in the series, but even in that sense it has less than a fourth of the characters from any given game. And they stated what characters the majority of the roster would be. Everyone is entitled to their opinion but please stop, hurling insults at each other. With a character roster such as fire emblem they’re are literally hundreds of characters to choose from. Yes there are some note worthy characters that should be in the game, and from the amiibos they’ve shown it safe to say they will add them to the game with DLC even if they have packs of characters called after the three titles, they still listen to fan feedback. With Hyrule warriors people wanted wind waker characters and skull kid who were all added in the expanded version on the 3DS. They even gave it their own separate story, so its safe to say that FEW will be handled with the same dedication. I don’t think they will make a new game, just create more DLC for characters people want. And thats all I have to say on the matter Good Day 🙂

I will continue to criticize and refuse to buy it. I have had enough of being neglected.

        Kay -_-
Do whatever floats your boat, but no one in this thread is working on this game.
So its better to inform Koei Tecmo, on this issue. We aren’t able to alter any thing in this game. Besides the creators themselves were fighting aganist each other/threatening to quit on who to include in the game. But later they decided that with DLC they could include the characters they wanted. So even they themselves aren’t truly happy with the final roster. But only time will tell if this game is good, its not like they could implement all these fixes in a day, and they also like keeping characters secret until they are ready to reveal them.

    Is this thread still alive?

Geeze, kinda hope stuff like cipher don’t come over here anymore. It would mean more complaining for months on end as Fate after Fate after Awakening set gets released until *finally* Blazing Blade gets its debut… just like it went in Japan.

With Fans like this, who needs Haters?

    No Azura???
