‘Waze’ allows players a chance at winning a 3DS!
Posted on 13 years ago by Austin(@NE_Austin) in 3DS, News | 0 comments
If you weren’t able to pick up a 3DS for one reason or another today, you may just have another chance at winning one: Our (new) friends over at Waze e-mailed me today to let me know that they’re running a contest where iPhone and Android players can play a sort of “real life” Mario Kart via an app, which thereby leads them to a chance to win a 3DS of their very own.
Check out their blog for official rules and more info!

NE Contest: Win yourself some high-end gaming accessories!
Posted on 13 years ago by Austin(@NE_Austin) in 3DS, DS, Features, Wii | 1 Comment
Yeesh, I totally forgot I needed to post this up tonight! Here’s the skinny, guys:
Our very good friends over at the company CM4 make some pretty sweet gaming accessories, including some high-end cases for the DSi, Wii, 3DS, etc etc. To make a long story short, we’ve got ourselves a slew of these cases to give away to all of you guys who are reading it, and unlike previous contests we’ve run, this one is very easy to enter, and very easy to win. There are two ways of doing this:
1. Via Twitter! If you’re following NintendoEverything on Twitter (which you should be!), then you know that every news story we post goes right to it and into your Twitter feeds. All you have to do is retweet this news story to all your followers, and (providing you mention @NinEverything in your tweet) and you’ll be entered to win! Make sure your Twitter e-mail is accurate so we can contact you should you be chosen.

2. Via Facebook! The second way to win some of this good stuff is to post a status tagging us (@NintendoEverything.com) in one of your statuses telling your friends about us or about the contest. I don’t really care what you say about us– if you say we’re the worst website ever or if you say we’re the coolest cats in town– just say SOMETHING. And nothing stupid like “NintendoEverything.com I like turtles.” Come on. You’re more creative than that.

As far as prizes go, we’ve got a couple Wiimote covers, a couple, DSi cases, a couple DSi XL cases, and I just got word that we will be lucky enough to get a hold of their upcoming 3DS cases as well for the contest! If you get chosen, you’ll have your pick of which ones you want, barring that someone before you didn’t already pick them. And these aren’t some second rate crappy system covers: These are the things that I use to cover my now-stolen DSi with and Wiimotes. They’re so good, in fact, that CM4 did a series of videos where they did violent things to them to see how well they’d fare, such as shooting them with a shotgun and throwing them off a building. Check it out if you don’t believe me:
Best of luck!
Ubisoft says they got the Unreal Engine running on 3DS
Posted on 13 years ago by Austin(@NE_Austin) in 3DS, News | 0 comments
I dunno why I’m up so late tonight, but since I am, I figured I might as well update the site once or twice! Check this out:
“The 3DS is powerful, and we are able to run the Unreal engine on this console, which is pretty impressive for a handheld machine, and the 3D doesn’t affect the performance (thanks to my amazing programmers). The architecture is different compared to a Wii or some other platforms that we had to work with here at Ubisoft Montreal.” – Ubisoft’s Fabrice Cuny
Now, that’s pretty darn cool if I do say so myself! But it doesn’t just prove that Ubisoft Montreal is a super awesome company. Take a look at this quote from Epic Games’ Mark Rein a few weeks back:
“If we felt it could run [Unreal Engine] and deliver the kind of experience people license our technology to build, we’d be on [the 3DS].” – Epic Games’ Mark Rein
I know this is technically called “bad journalism” and “inciting flame wars”, but I figure I can do it just once without getting in trouble. Take that, Epic Games! Even though I totally dig Epic and the people who work over there… Haha.
GameStop only has enough Aqua Blue 3DS systems to fulfill pre-orders?
Posted on 13 years ago by Austin(@NE_Austin) in 3DS, News | 0 comments
For those of you that follow NintendoEverything on Facebook, you know that I pre-ordered my 3DS system at GameStop two minutes before the deadline (technically it was way past the deadline) and I did it over the phone, which is normally against the rules. How did I accomplish such a feat? The guys at my local GameStops are super cool, so they cut some corners for me.
But that’s not really the point of this post. The point was that, while I was talking to this wonderful GameStop employee, he mentioned that partially due to the tsunami/earthquake in Japan, GameStop would only be receiving enough Aqua Blue 3DS systems to fulfill pre-orders, and that they would not have ANY Aqua Blue systems on shelves to purchase without a pre-order. Now, I’ve yet to call other GameStops across the country, but if any readers could help us out with piecing together what the situation is in places other than here in Minneapolis, that would be great!
Long story short: Unless you pre-ordered it, you may not be able to get an Aqua Blue 3DS at GameStop no matter how long you camp out in front of the store entrance.

NE Interview: Gamestaq CEO/co-founder Joseph Gindi
Posted on 13 years ago by Austin(@NE_Austin) in Features, General Nintendo, News | 0 comments
CEO and Co-Founder of Gamestaq.com discusses the used game market, downloadable add-ons, and how pricing of secondhand titles is getting out of hand.
The used game market is slowly and slowly getting more and more out of hand. If you plan on selling a game to retail giant GameStop, for instance, chances are that you’ll get less than a fourth of full price for it. This is fairly ridiculous considering that GameStop sees no problem in taking what they paid five dollars for and reselling it to those same gamers who support them for three, four, or even five times that. Some may say that you can’t blame companies like GameStop for this, because it indeed takes two to tango, but the fact of the matter remains that many gamers just don’t have much a choice when it comes to selling their used games.
That, however, is about to change because of a company called GameStaq. Joseph Gindi is the CEO and co-founder of the company which offers gamers an alternative to places like GameStop, and it allows you to get upwards of 70 or 80% of retail price, as opposed to the usual 30 to 40%. I had the privilege of interviewing Mr. Gindi, and I asked him a variety of questions on his company, his outlook, and the industry as a whole. Check it out after the break…

What do YOU think? Beauty in simplicity
Posted on 13 years ago by Austin(@NE_Austin) in Features | 0 comments
I’m an English kind of guy. I know my grammar, I know my punctuation, I know my spelling, and I use it all to the best of my ability, but no matter how many English classes you take, there’s one lesson you can only learn from experience: Beauty lies in simplicity. When you’re writing an essay, for instance, you will have the greatest chance at a quality piece by combing out every single unnecessary word that’s stowed around in all the nooks and crannies of the paper and leaving your reader with the simplest, most concise and effective iteration of your thoughts possible. After writing countless articles both for NE and other outlets, I can tell you with certainty that this advice holds true for any writing you will do.
Recently, I’ve found that this rule applies not only to my writing, but to the games I play as well. In playing Mario Sports Mix the past couple of days (review forthcoming!), I’ve noticed how much it has helped my enjoyment of the game that it is controlled in traditional “2-button” fashion, Wiimote held sideways. Likewise, New Super Mario Bros. is a game I just love to play, in part because of how simple it is to control. It’s not just Nintendo, though; Team-17’s Worms: Battle Islands is a two-button game, and I love that game as well. The more I think about it, the more I see a correlation. I don’t think I can think of a single Wiimote-held-sideways game that I don’t enjoy!
