As you can see in the video above, a glitch allows players to climb down the second ladder in Donkey Kong and more or less takes you to the end of the level. A lot of gamers are aware of this apparently, but I personally never even tried it! How about you guys?

According to ArchAngelUK, SEGA will be sharing an update about Sonic Colors tomorrow. However, there’s also some important news that will be revealed on Thursday. It’s apparently so significant that the SEGA Europe community manager went as far as to say on the latest Radio Redux podcast that it’s “franchise-changing news.” We know that SEGA is also working on a Sonic title for the 3DS, so I wonder if it’s at all related to that title. Thursday is just a few days away, so it won’t be long until we find out what the hype is all about.

There’s been a lot of buzz surrounding Capcom’s Yoshinori Ono over the past few days. He made a proposal to Keiji Inafune, and hyped up a new project by saying that Super Street Fighter IV “is nothing compared to what’s coming.” Now Ono has indicated on his Twitter account that his new title will be announced at Comic-Con.

“You’re in for a treat. I can’t say announcement at EVO. Maybe, I’ll be able to speak new thing at Comic-Con !! Don’t miss it on next Saturday !! I finally hope to reveal a bit about what I’ve been relentlessly working on lately..”

Ono also said that he has prepared a trailer for Comic-Con, but he didn’t specify if it’s for the new game announcement.

I originally held back on posting this when the Japanese version of this Iwata Asks edition went live. Now that the text and video are in English, I think you’ll get a better idea of what this neat little Super Mario Bros. secret is all about. Well, I suppose it’s not really a secret, but it’s still very interesting!

Mahito Yokota: That’s right. I didn’t even realize it until it was pointed out to me. There are a lot of things I’m careful about when I create tunes for Mario games, too, but I couldn’t express those in words, either.

Still, when I tried analyzing my own music the other day, I realized that the World 1-1 background music melody in Super Mario Bros. might have been timed to Mario’s walk.

Satoru Iwata: I see, in other words, the melody is written to be in time with Mario’s steps.

Koji Kondo: I didn’t write the tune with that in mind. At first, when he starts walking, it goes “Da dum dum dum dah”, then when he finds the Goomba and backtracks so he can time his jump, then starts forward again, the music goes “Dum da da, Dum da da”, and finally when he starts walking, jumps and stomps, it goes “Da dum dum dum dah, da da dah!”, like that. The melody really matches Mario’s movements well that way.

When I actually wrote it, I wasn’t thinking anything of the sort. I think maybe I had that image inside me, though, latent, and that’s why the music turned out the way it did. Maybe that’s far-fetched, I don’t know (laughs).

The news below comes from information gathered from Comic-Con’s schedule page for

“4:45-5:45 Capcom 2010 and Beyond!— See the latest trailers and get the inside scoop on all of Capcom’s most highly anticipated games for 2010 and beyond: Marvel Vs. Capcom 3, Sengoku Basara, Okamiden, Bionic Commando Rearmed 2, Ghost Trick, Dead Rising 2, and more. On top of all that, hear details on an exciting new game announcement by Capcom legend Keiji Inafune, the father of Mega Man! Room 6BCF”

As it turned out, today’s big Capcom announcement wasn’t related to Nintendo. But considering Inafune is involved with the company’s new project, the news from Conic-Con should be worth paying attention to and there’s a possibility that the announcement could be tied to the Wii/DS.

Yuji Naka, CEO of Prope responding to the fact that he created Sonic…

“Not right now. Right now, I want to create new things. Even if I had the opportunity to create some kind of new Sonic game I think that’s best kept within Sega.”

Naka on whether we’ll see another game like Let’s Tap…

“Personally, I would love to work on something like that, but the sales weren’t high so I don’t know if I can justify making another one. One of the things in Let’s Tap is it’s not digital, you don’t push a button and have the game react to it. I’m really happy with the technology we created. It senses soft touches, reads that, and puts that it into the game.

“Videogame makers know that in order for portable game machines to take the next step forward, they need wireless communication. We are discussing this with various players.” – NTT DoCoMo President Ryuji Yamada

Yamada wouldn’t specifically identify who NTT DoCoMo has been in contact with, but one would think that the company is talking to Nintendo and Sony. What he did say is that a component could be included in hardware which would access NTT DoCoMo’s 3G network or connect to their routers that use a 3G connection to create a local Wi-Fi network. We know that Nintendo is looking to enhance wireless/online functionality with the 3DS, so might their next handheld support 3G?

Miyamoto on how long the 3DS has been in development/what the process is like behind the scenes…

“Basically the way it works is – once we’ve finalised the design for a new hardware system and we’ve launched the hardware system, the hardware teams immediately begin research on what the next system will be. So it’s been – I don’t know how long – I guess about six years since we launched Nintendo DS, so they’ve been researching and experimenting with various things over the last six years, but it really finally started to take this shape that we see now about three years ago.”

Miyamoto on why this is the best time for Nintendo to introduce a new 3D system…

“Well, there were kind of two things that led to it. First of all, the LCD screen technology has really advanced quite a bit over the last few years, and that played a big part in it. The other is obviously – as you pointed out – we’ve experimented with 3D a lot over the years, and in all the experiments that we did, with the sole exception of the Virtual Boy, everything else that we worked on was really 3D as a peripheral or an accessory to an existing hardware system. And what’s unique about a portable gaming device is that because it’s both a gaming system and a monitor, both together in one device, there is no accessory. What that means is everybody who purchases the device is able to experience the 3D effect, so it was kind of this combination of us focusing in on the idea of a portable device as a 3D device, and the fact that the LCD screen technology had advanced to a point where it was finally going to be possible to do it.”
