General Nintendo

Update: Bumped to the front page. Posted more details below along with translations from Nikkei’s article.

Nintendo’s handheld and console development divisions have been maintained as separate entities. Next month, however, the two will be unified in a new headquarters location.

Apparently this move will be the first large-scale development structural change in nine years.

The reasons for unification certainly make sense. Developers from both fields will be able to share know-how, basic skills, and optimize development. Nintendo is additionally looking to increase the link between handhelds and consoles, raise affinity with the Internet, and develop revolutionary hardware.

Zen Studios VP of marketing & public relations Mel Kirk is high on the company’s experience in making Zen Pinball 2 for the Wii U eShop.

Kirk praised Nintendo for its support, noting “we really could not have asked for more support from them.” On the whole, the entire experience has been “extremely positive”, and Kirk believes “the doors are wide open for other small studios to bring games to the Wii U.”

Kirk’s comments in full:

“We have experienced the same challenges that are presented on any new platform or device. Nintendo’s support has been excellent, we really could not have asked for more support from them. Overall, it has been an extremely positive experience and I think the doors are wide open for other small studios to bring games to the Wii U. This is an amazing development for Nintendo; huge, positive changes have been made since the days of WiiWare.”

Nikkei is back with another round of quotes from Iwata. Below you’ll find translated comments regarding Wii U sales, the GamePad’s origins, his desire to continue expanding the gaming population, and tons more that couldn’t possibly fit within this post’s title.

Yup, it’s gone… again! The gold nunchuck could always return – considering it’s been restocked a couple of times now – but hopefully those who were interested in the reward placed an order.

Warner Bros. now has a bunch of new Batman domain names in its possession. On January 10, numerous “Arkham”-related domains were registered.

The list in full:

arkhamuniverse.com (Arkham Universe)
batmanarkahmuniverse.com (Batman Arkham Universe)
batmanarkhamarises.com (Batman Arkham Arises)
batmanarkhambegins.com (Batman Arkham Begins)
batmanarkhamdarkknight.com (Batman Arkham Dark Knight)
batmanarkhamknight.com (Batman Arkham Knight)
batmanarkhamlegend.com (Batman Arkham Legend)
batmanarkhamlegends.com (Batman Arkham Legends)
batmanarkhamnight.com (Batman Arkham Night)
batmanarkhamorigins.com (Batman Arkham Origins)
batmanarkhamstories.com (Batman Arkham Stories)
darkknightarkham.com (Dark Knight Arkham)
dcarkhamuniverse.com (DC Arkham Universe)
dcarkhamverse.com (DC Arkhamverse)
thearkhamuniverse.com (The Arkham Universe)

There are two likely possibilities here: either these domains tie-in to a new Arkham video game, or a movie of some sort. Then again, it’s also possible that the sites were registered for protective reasons.
