Nintendo has started to ship the free Kid Icarus: Uprising AR cards from Club Nintendo. They can take anywhere between four to ten days to arrive.

You can still order the three pack of cards from Club Nintendo here. Remember, it’s a limited time offer!

On this week’s episode: Mario Party 9, Kid Icarus: Uprising, 3D Classics: Kid Icarus and Nicktoons MLB 3D.

Nintendo registered the following trademarks recently:

– Oni-Tore (“tore” is short form of “training”)
– Oni Training
– “Demon Training” (English registration)
– “The Last Ranger”
– “Saigo no Youjinbou” (“Last Bodyguard”)

Oni-Tore, Oni Training, and Demon Training could be related to the 3DS Brain Age sequel shown on the last Japanese Nintendo Direct.

Square Enix may have future plans for Mini Ninjas. The company filed a European trademark for Mini Ninjas: Hiro’s Adventure and registered various domains including “minininjahirosadventure.com”.

Could this be a sign of things to come?

E3 is about three months away, but that hasn’t stopped Ubisoft from dating their 2012 conference. As usual, it’s set for the Monday before the start of the expo – June 4. Assassin’s Creed III will surely be a big part of the show, and there will probably be a few surprises as well.

Hopefully this guy won’t be hosting the event…

Game Informer has published a new interview with Capcom’s SVP of planning and business development Christian Svensson.

In the interview, Svensson discusses Mega Man Legends 3, noting that the fan involvement “turned out to be a double-edged sword”, “still an open discussion point”, the situation behind the spelling error on an initial batch of Resident Evil: Revelations copies, and more.

Head past the break for some of Svensson’s comments. You can find more chatter relating to the PlayStation 3/Xbox 360 here.

Remember the rumor about Sonic Dimensions that popped up last year? It suggested that SEGA was making the game for Wii U, and it would be a spiritual successor to Sonic Colors.

Well, for now, we’ll have to throw that rumor out the window. When asked about Sonic Dimensions, SEGA’s Takashi Iizuka said, “Sonic Dimensions? [Laughs] I think it’s a complete hoax. [Laughs]”.

The issue here is that SEGA isn’t in a position to announce/confirm any new Wii U games. Still, this does impact the chances of Sonic Dimensions being real…

Here’s a bit of Super Mario Galaxy 2 development trivia for you: the game could have featured Nintendo characters.

According to director Koichi Hayashida, there were proposals to include characters from the Big N’s other franchises – like Donkey Kong or Pikmin – but Shigeru Miyamoto was very unsupportive of the idea. Miyamoto felt that there needed “to be a functional reason to include characters of a certain type in a game.”

Hayashida said:

“One of the early proposals that we discussed for Super Mario Galaxy 2 was the possibility of including characters from other [Nintendo] franchises. For example, you might have Donkey Kong or Pikmin show up. We presented this to Mr. Miyamoto, but he came down pretty hard, saying that there has to be a functional reason to include characters of a certain type in a game. He went to specify precisely why the Pikmin wouldn’t work. In the Pikmin games, you’ll notice that all the Pikmin are very thin — tall and narrow for their frame. Mario enemies tend to be on the short and squat side and there’s a functional reason for that. They’re easier to stomp on. They’re lower so you can get above them and broader so you can land on them. In that sense, Pikmin are just not well suited for the Mario universe.”

Hayashida also answered a question regarding the possibility of Donkey Kong becoming the main villain of a Mario game again.

His response:

“If we encountered a situation with a proper gameplay context, we would consider it. Let’s say if we were building a level and functionally it called for someone to throw barrels at you, then Donkey Kong would be appropriate. But now that I think about it, maybe we have a situation where, at the end of Super Mario 3D Land, Bowser throws fireballs at you from the end of the stage. And we didn’t use Donkey Kong there… so…”

You have to reason to be worried about Nintendo. They’ve got lots – and I mean lots – of money stowed away in the bank.

Take a look at this tidbit from the latest issue of Nintendo Gamer:

“Buried in reams of financial data is the revelation that Nintendo have 812.8 billion Yen (£6.7/$10.5 billion) in the bank – enough for it to take a 20 billion Yen loss (£163/$257 million) every year until 2052. Then there’s almost 469 billion Yen (£3.8/$6.0 billion) held in premises, equipment and investments. When that runs out – we’re in the year 2075 by this point – they’ve got some of the most valuable intellectual property in gaming to sell off before the company goes out of business.”

So even though the 3DS went through a rough patch in its first year and Wii sales have been down as of late, Nintendo has plenty of cash to keep them going for decades.

Interviews with Koichi Hayashida continue to pour in from GDC. There are a few duplicate questions/answers below, which makes sense given how many interviews were conducted with the Super Mario 3D Land director.

We do get a few interesting pieces of information though, such as a confirmation that the 2D Mario game recently announced by Nintendo president Satoru Iwata is not made by EAD Tokyo. This shouldn’t come as surprise given the fact that the studio has only handled the 3D Mario’s in the past, but it’s nice to know for sure!

Once again, head past the break for the full Q&A breakdown…
