Physical and digital sales combined, the UK video games market is down from £1.934bn in 2011 to £1.598bn in 2012. The market experienced a 17.4 percent dip, according to the ERA.
There is in a small bright spot in the digital space. Sales of digital releases are up 7.7 percent in 2012, growing to £552.2m. Despite the fact that digital video game sales are experiencing a slow trend upwards, it is the most valuable entertainment sector in the UK.
It should be noted that most titles are still being sold in physical form, but digital games are making an impact. 65.4 per cent of the 2012 video games market was comprised of physical sales, compared to 2011’s 73.5 percent.
But even with support from digital, the overall market is slumping. Physical video games are at a lukewarm £1.05bn.

Pilotwings 64 composer Dan Hess shared a completely random and interesting revelation in an interview with N64 Blog.
Hess told the site that while the team was making the new Pilotwings, one Nintendo executive – who came “with a briefcase chained to his arm” from Japan showed its in-progress work on Super Mario 64. The team took inspiration from the visit, which “served as motivation for us to make Pilotwings 64 as good as we possibly could.”
Hess said:
“One of my fondest memories is of a Nintendo executive flying from Japan, literally with a briefcase chained to his arm, to show our team they’re developing Super Mario 64 game. We were all blown away and it served as motivation for us to make Pilotwings 64 as good as we possibly could.”

Activision had Pi Studios working on a game called “Sing Hero” at one point. This was the studio behind many of the Rock Band Wii games.
Not many details are known. However, points would be accumulated based on the number of fans players had.
Eventually, Activision made the decision to stop producing music games. Guitar Hero was abandoned, as was the new Sing Hero title.

A number of years ago, there had been talk of a Metroid movie. Once Zide-Perry Productions’ licence option expired, in 2004, director John Woo and the folks at Tiger Hill took over.
Brad Foxhoven, producer on the project and former president of Tiger Hill, told IGN:
“We believed there was a great opportunity for John Woo to bring his style of action into a Metroid film. Nintendo was quite supportive of the idea, as they were all fans of John’s previous films.”

Takemoto on the possibility of creating and sharing Mario stages in the future
Posted on 12 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in General Nintendo, News, Podcast Stories | 0 comments
Nintendo has never released a Mario title that allows players to fully create and share stages. It’s true that New Super Mario Bros. U – the latest entry in the side-scrolling series – allows for coin placement in Coin Battle mode, but the overall level of customization is very low – especially compared to other platformers.
Masataka Takemoto, director of Mario’s debut on Wii U, expressed openness in an interview with GamesTM when asked if he foresees a time when players can share and create their own stages. It’s something he feels could be a possibility, “but there’s no use just blindly making that feature available.”
Takemoto told the magazine:
“I think the Coin Edit feature in Coin Battle is a step closer to that. There is a possibility of this happening in the future, but there’s no use just blindly making that feature available. We would need to carefully think about how to make such a system work. The important thing is that it has to be something that is uniquely Nintendo. Where a beginner can easily make something and have a good time, and simultaneously, someone who is really into Mario can delve into it deeper and make something more complex. So that is a challenge we will need to tackle in the future.”
