Updates from Hayashida’s Super Mario 3D Land GDC session

Update: Aaaaaand that’s it.
Super Mario 3D Land director Koichi Hayashida is speaking at GDC right now. I’ll keep this post updated with any quotes/tidbits/news throughout the event.
“We must strive to make others laugh with strange new ideas”
Mr. Hayashida is explaining all the trouble they went through to perfect the stereoscopic 3D in #SuperMario3D.
Mr. H is talking about how they used 3D illusions in #SuperMario3D
“It’s very important to let people play the game they want to.”
Satisfying both beginner and elite gamers is always challenging, which is why the first few worlds of #SuperMario3D were so easy!
“Enjoy everything!” – Mr. Hayashida
Nintendo will be live-tweeting from the Super Mario 3D Land session at GDC
Posted on 12 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in 3DS, News | 0 comments
Super Mario 3D Land director Koichi Hayashida will be speaking at a GDC session called “Thinking in 3D: The Development of Super Mario 3D Land.” This will take place in about an hour’s time.
While I wouldn’t expect anything mindblowing – this isn’t an Iwata keynote after all – Nintendo of America will be tweeting live updates from the event. We may receive some development nuggets about 3D Land, and those could end up being very interesting!
You can follow Nintendo of America’s Twitter account here. We’ll be sure to post any tidbits from the session on the front page of the site as well.
Small Wii U chatter at GDC
Posted on 12 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in News, Wii U | 0 comments
GDC is, well, for developers, so naturally folks attending the event are bound to hear a few things about the Wii U from various industry members.
Kotaku’s Stephen Totilo ran into a financial analyst and a developer today, and shared a couple of things about what he heard.
Totilo wrote:
“Wii U chatter was mixed on day 2. A financial analyst told me Nintendo is screwed. Not enough time to be out on their own. A developer told me their fortunes are mixed. Good ambition on Nintendo’s part, but, well… it’s Nintendo, everyone says it’s on Nintendo for the thing to succeed. Same as it ever was. It’s almost all on them.”
This is just one analyst and one developer, so I wouldn’t be concerned about the quotes above. And I really, really wouldn’t be surprised if the mystery analyst was Wedbush’s Michael Pachter…

Silicon Knights: Eternal Darkness sequel not too much to ask
Posted on 12 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in GameCube, General Nintendo, News | 0 comments
Although Eternal Darkness: Sanity’s Requiem was well received by critics, the classic GameCube title never lit up the sales charts. Even so, Silicon Knights is open to making a sequel.
Silicon Knights head Denis Dyack provided the following response when asked if “it’s too much to ask” for a new Eternal Darkness game:
“I don’t think it is too much to ask. Certainly we love Eternal Darkness. It’s a project that’s near and dear to our hearts.”
Dyack went on to say that a sequel is “requested a lot by a lot of people” and that “anything’s possible.” He wasn’t willing to say what the studio is working on currently.
