The North American Wii U eShop confirms: Super Mario Bros. 2 will be available on May 16 for $4.99.

We still don’t know too much about the situation, but various outlets have been reporting that Eternal Darkness and Too Human developer Silicon Knights has closed its office and sold off their assets to other companies. This comes in light of the fact that their most famous property– Eternal Darkness: Sanity’s Requiem— is getting a spiritual successor developed by Precursor Games called “Shadow of the Eternals“, and amidst the word that Precursor had actually purchased various assets from Silicon Knights in order to work on it.

There were still rumblings yesterday from the few Silicon Knights employees left who said the company is “very much alive”, but as time chugs forward it’s starting to look like that may not be the case.

SEGA’s latest financial results are in, and it has brought along some encouraging news for the Wii U and 3DS.

Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed sales at 1.36 million in the US and Europe. 310,000 units were sold on Wii U worldwide, and another 190,000 copies were moved on 3DS.

Even better, it would seem that SEGA is planning seven SKUs for Wii U in the coming year, which is the same number as the PlayStation 3 and four more than the Xbox 360. While most of these SKUs are likely new games, SEGA could be counting items such as special editions as well.

The 3DS will be receiving continued support as well with six SKUs in the pipeline. There aren’t any SKUs coming to the DS, unsurprisingly.

For both the Wii U and 3DS, SEGA expects to move just slightly below one million in software sales for each platform.

Madden is out the door, FIFA is up in the air, and now we’re hearing that a total of 15 games are set to skip out on Wii U due to the console’s poor testing when put up against EA’s ‘Frostbite 2’ and (consequently) ‘Frostbite 3’ engines. We don’t know for sure which games will be skipping the console, but it’s a safe bet that Battlefield, Mass Effect, and some of the studio’s Star Wars titles won’t be hitting Nintendo’s home console when they come to PS4 and the next generation Xbox.

So when it comes down to it, much like with Wii, Wii U owners may just have to give up on multiplatform support. We’ll certainly have good third party games (it’ll be much cheaper to developer for Wii U than PS4, after all) and great indie titles, but when it comes to these big-budget action games, we seem to be missing out on pretty much everything! Which may not be much of a loss given that most of us bought a Wii U for Nintendo first party titles and other games like that anyway.

Update: Regarding Europe:

Mutant Mudds Deluxe is now in Nintendo’s hands. Renegade Kid co-founder Jools Watsham confirmed via Twitter that the Wii U eShop game has been submitted to Nintendo of America.

Watsham said:

When might we be seeing Mutant Mudds Deluxe? If all goes well, it looks like it’ll pop up on the eShop in June.

A pair of Wii U games are now available at slightly cheaper prices through the eShop.

Assassin’s Creed III can be purchased for $39.99. Meanwhile, Fist of the North Star: Ken’s Rage 2 has been dropped to $49.99. Each was originally priced at $59.99.

A little bit of interesting news concerning Shadow of the Eternals has surfaced through a Wired report published today.

According to the site, Precursor Games purchased art assets from Silicon Knights, the original studio behind Eternal Darkness.

Precursor Games Paul Caporicci CEO confirmed:

According to the official Injustice: Gods Among Us Twitter account, downloadable content is coming to the Wii U version after all. DLC is expected to arrive this summer. That’s fairly surprising – to say the least – given recent statements from Warner Bros.

Here’s the tweet in full:

It’s nice to finally have a confirmation that the Wii U will be getting Injustice DLC, but you have to wonder why this content wasn’t out alongside the other versions. Hopefully these kinds of situations won’t crop up as often going forward…
