Site updates

If you’ve noticed anything “fishy” going on over the past few hours, know that it was a result of some behind-the-scenes maintenance I was taking care of. All instances of this “fishiness” should be fixed. I’m completed the maintenance for the evening (and the rest of the weekend), but please let me know if you encounter any issues!

Updated design

Updates on Nintendo Everything have been somewhat slow today not only because E3 is over and news is therefore light, but also as a result of the work I’ve been doing on the site’s design.

I’ve started to think more and more about NE’s design as of late. I especially thought some sort of change was necessary when I couldn’t even fit a standard-sized YouTube video into a typical post. That’s one reason why I’ve made a number of modifications to NE, though most of them are size related.

First off, there’s much more room for actual content. This means that YouTube videos will be larger and there’s just more room to work with overall.

The sidebar has also been widened. We’ve moved an ad space from the index page’s second post (that was kind of a random spot) to the top right corner. Also, we’ve added a Facebook widget so you can follow Austin’s updates more easily and now you can join our page with just one simple click. I’ll be looking for additional items to add/change over the next few days. It was important to get the foundation in place today.

Nothing is final and things are still being updated. So if you have any criticisms (I’m sure you have many… uh oh…), comments, or concerns, sound off in the comments section or contact us through email. Just keep in mind I’m not a professional site designer – far from it, actually!

Oh, and one last thing – make sure your browser cache has been emptied, otherwise a few items might seem out of place.

Granted nothing crazy happens, the new gallery system on the site should be fixed. So from here on out, I’ll try to use the new setup. Of course, if it ends up causing more issues, I’ll have to reinvestigate the situation. Hopefully this is the last bit of maintenance we’ll have to deal with for awhile.

More site updates

To prevent bot spam on posts published within the last week, I’ll be closing comments on articles that were added to the site since 6/6 within the next 24 hours. You’ll still be able to comment on posts that were previously integrated with the forum. Just make sure you’re logged in.

In other news, I’ve encountered an issue with our new gallery system. For now I’m using the clunky, old system for images. I’ll look into the problem and hopefully switch back to the new galleries soon.

I think that I’ve finally completed the necessary maintenance to link the main site and forum. They should be fully connected now and it appears that things are back to the way they were about a week ago. I say this with a bit of hesitance since I was under the impression that things were fully functional earlier this week, but further testing alerted me to the fact that the site was not completely repaired.

I was actually expecting the maintenance to take longer, perhaps as long as later this weekend, but fortunately I was able to nail down the last few issues. Please let me know if things aren’t working on your end. You can make a comment on this post, somewhere else on the forum, or notify us about any problems via email.

Thanks for your patience!

I’m continuing to work on restoring forum integration with the main site. I encountered a significant breakthrough last night following a few hours of toiling away on the computer, which fixed some behind-the-scenes issues and will lead to the ultimate goal of linking both areas of the site.

I’m not sure how long it’ll take, but hopefully things will be completely back to normal by the end of the week.

For whatever reason, when we switched servers right before E3, forum integration with the main site almost destroyed everything entirely. To say the least, that wasn’t fun! We had to disable the integration to ensure that NE could be accessed during E3, but I now have restored everything… almost. There are just a few more things that I have to work on, but some issues are causing a tremendous amount of trouble.

Specifically, on your end, you may find that you keep getting logged out after you visit a few pages on the main site. For now it looks like you will stay logged in if you only visit forum pages. That isn’t exactly an ideal situation, though. I’ll keep working until I (hopefully) get everything back in working order.

Hey guys! Just wanted to help you all out by posting all the great features we’ve had written over the last couple of days about E3 in one place so you don’t have to scroll through all the news to read em. Check out what we’ve got to offer here:

Update 2: Kotaku says this is about Ubisoft, as expected.

Update: Some sites are indicating that the event will focus on a single third-party. If true, I have no idea when we’ll get online Wii U details… Maybe Reggie was lying!

Nintendo’s hosting a second roundtable at E3 2011 tonight. From what we’ve heard, Ubisoft will be there to talk about Assassin’s Creed Wii U and it’s possible that other third-parties will be in attendance. There’s a good chance that some online details for Wii U will be revealed as well. Basically, you won’t want to miss it!

Tune in at 9 PM EDT / 6 PM PDT for live news updates.

Even though Nintendo’s conference is over, E3 hasn’t ended. In fact, it’s just begun! Expect a ton of additional news as well as previews and who knows what else throughout the day. Also, Nintendo is hosting a second roundtable later tonight for the Wii U, so you might want to tune in for that! It’ll kick off at 5:30 PM PDT / 8:30 PM EDT assuming it starts on time.
