GameStop puts an end to the Donkey Kong 3D rumors

A game box was spotted at an Australian EB Games store over the weekend, stirring speculation about a possible Donkey Kong 3D game for Nintendo’s newest handheld. However, GameStop has confirmed today that Nintendo did not provide the display cases and have put an end to the rumors.
A GameStop representative said:
“The displays were not supplied by Nintendo and have been taken down. It’s definitely not in the system in the U.S. I’m sure it’s not elsewhere, either, but I can’t confirm that.”
So there you have it. There is no Donkey Kong title in the works for the 3DS (as far as we know at least!). I’m sure we’ll see a new game in the franchise one day given how successful Donkey Kong Country Returns was, but there isn’t a new game on the horizon.
Thanks to Lars H for the tip!

2D Mario for 3DS not being made by EAD Tokyo, and other nuggets from Hayashida
Posted on 12 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in 3DS, General Nintendo, News | 0 comments
Interviews with Koichi Hayashida continue to pour in from GDC. There are a few duplicate questions/answers below, which makes sense given how many interviews were conducted with the Super Mario 3D Land director.
We do get a few interesting pieces of information though, such as a confirmation that the 2D Mario game recently announced by Nintendo president Satoru Iwata is not made by EAD Tokyo. This shouldn’t come as surprise given the fact that the studio has only handled the 3D Mario’s in the past, but it’s nice to know for sure!
Once again, head past the break for the full Q&A breakdown…

Hayashida doesn’t see Mario becoming a yearly franchise, level editor talk, Mario 3D Land tidbits, more
Posted on 12 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in 3DS, General Nintendo, News, Wii | 0 comments
Another day, another interview with Super Mario 3D Land director Koichi Hayashida.
Hayashida has opened up about Mario in general, such as his thoughts about the franchise seeing yearly releases like Call of Duty. He also discussed the possibility of a level editor for Mario games.
Regarding Super Mario 3D Land, Hayashida was asked about a sequel, DLC, how the Tanooki Suit made it into the game (and revealed how he was pulling for Cape Mario), and more.
As usual, Hayashida’s comments can be found after the break.
