Critically acclaimed pinball series making Nintendo® debut appearance on the Nintendo eShop

LOS ANGELES – September 20, 2011 – Zen Studios, the definitive leader in pinball videogames, today announced that its critically acclaimed pinball series, Zen Pinball, is coming to the Nintendo eShop. Zen Pinball 3D on Nintendo 3DS will feature four of Zen Studios finest originally designed tables including Earth Defense, Shaman, Excalibur and Eldorado, all in stunning 3D.

“Releasing Zen Pinball on a Nintendo platform marks an amazing milestone for Zen Studios. We are really excited for Nintendo fans to experience one of our greatest passions – the timeless game of pinball!” said Mel Kirk, Vice President of Marketing and Public Relations. “Playing pinball in 3D is killer, it’s like the game has been totally reinvented, and a whole new world opens up right before your eyes.”

This information comes from Square Enix’s Tomoya Asano…

– Girl in the AR demo is one of the game’s four main characters
– Battle system mixes jobs and abilities
– Close to Final Fantasy V in image
– Random encounters
– Turn-based battles
– Asano joked that shortening the name to “FF” like Final Fantasy isn’t intentional
– In the main visual, there’s a light that can be seen above the heroine; this the “flying fairy” of the subtitle
– They’re using people who’ve previously not worked with Square Enix
– These are “interesting people” according to Asano

This information comes from Kirby Mass Attack director Mari Shirakawa…

“As you know, this is a game in which players are able to directly touch the stage in the lower screen. Of course, that type of control would also be possible on the 3DS, but the game would not end up taking advantage of the three-dimensionality of the upper 3DS screen, which is a defining characteristic of the 3DS hardware. So if we made this game for the 3DS, I think we would be asked, ‘Why did you make this game for the 3DS?’ I think that given the characteristics of Kirby Mass Attack, it’s only natural that it was developed for the DS.”

I can understand this reasoning. And, to be honest, it might be for the best that Mass Attack was made for DS. Now both 3DS and DS owners can experience the title!
