Unsurprisingly, Nintendo has issued their standard “we do not comment on rumour and speculation” line regarding the rumored 3DS redesign. I wouldn’t expect any sort of confirmation now, and even if it were true, I don’t think we’d hear anything about it until next year. I’m sure Nintendo wants the 3DS to be a focus this holidays as it is now along with their lineup of upcoming games.

A new article on The Wall Street Journal (registration required) seems to confirm that Nintendo’s rumored September event will indeed take place on the 13th. The site says that it’ll be called the Nintendo Conference, a trade show that is “open to industry people, analysts, investors and journalists, but not to consumers.” So we can expect the same deal as last year’s event.

We’ve already heard that a big announcement is planned, but perhaps it won’t necessarily be on the 3DS as this is called the “Nintendo Conference”. But I have to admit that the 3DS is probably the safest bet for a huge reveal.

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, Super Mario 3D Land, Mario Kart 7 and Kid Icarus: Uprising to be Playable in Nintendo’s Booth

REDMOND, Wash.–(BUSINESS WIRE)– Nintendo is bringing the games that fans want to play to the Penny Arcade Expo (PAX), the premier video game event that is open to the public. The show takes place Aug. 26-28 at the Washington State Convention & Trade Center in Seattle, and Nintendo will be at booth No. 462, level 4. Nintendo plans to have games for its Nintendo 3DS™, Wii™ and Nintendo DS™ systems available for people to check out before they launch, including The Legend of Zelda™: Skyward Sword for Wii and Super Mario 3D Land™, Mario Kart™ 7 and Kid Icarus™: Uprising for Nintendo 3DS, in addition to fun events and activities.

In addition to game play on the main show floor, Nintendo invites attendees to visit the Nintendo Gaming Lounge in the North Galleria, which will feature additional games and activities across two different levels. The third floor of the Nintendo Gaming Lounge will be decorated in honor of the upcoming Oct. 24 launch of the Kirby’s Return to Dream Land™ game for Wii (previously known as Kirby Wii) and the Sept. 19 launch of the Kirby™ Mass Attack game for the Nintendo DS family of systems, as well as the Pokédex™ 3D application for Nintendo 3DS. Visitors can inhale Kirby™ pink cotton candy, relax on Kirby beanbag chairs or pick up some fun Kirby items to wear on the show floor while supplies last. The third floor of the Nintendo Gaming Lounge will also feature Pokédex 3D activities such as large Pokémon™ AR markers and daily giveaways including collectible Pokémon AR marker cards while supplies last. The second floor of the Nintendo Gaming Lounge will feature playable versions of Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker™ 2 and Fortune Street™. On this floor, players can take fun pictures with friends in a DRAGON QUEST-themed “monster friend mash-up” photo booth and meet with other DRAGON QUEST fans.

Could Nintendo be planning a fall-like conference for the 3DS? Well, we aren’t entirely sure that it’s a conference, though investors are under the impression that an important event will be held on September 13.

This rumored event has actually caused a boost in Nintendo stock today, which, at one point, rose to 9.7% above yesterday’s level.

Nintendo held a “Fall Conference” in late September of last year. While the 3DS was a huge focus, the company also took time to talk briefly about Wii – and confirmed Wii Remote Plus. New games were also announced after the show ended.

Nicalis has produced content for WiiWare, DSiWare, and is currently developing Cave Story 3D for 3DS. If their website is any indication, they’ll probably work on Wii U down the line as well. On the site’s “About” section, Nicalis states that they can officially create titles for the platform.

“We’re licensed on most major platforms like Wii U, Nintendo 3DS, Sony PSP, iOS, OS X, Android and almost everything else inbetween.”
