Wii Shop Channel

Not a bad lineup of games! I’m frankly amazed that we’re getting a Wii U eShop game and demo in the same week.

This week’s Nintendo Download includes the following featured content:

Nintendo eShop on Wii U
Puddle – Winner at the Independent Games Festival 2010, Puddle is a game that finds players guiding a puddle of fluid through 49 challenging and diverse levels by tilting the environment left or right. Players must also take into account friction, gravity and temperature, and use various types of liquids to navigate the unique environments that include burning passageways, carnivorous plants and electric currents.

The Cave – Demo Version – The Cave is a new adventure game from Monkey Island and Maniac Mansion creator Ron Gilbert and Double Fine Productions, the award-winning studio behind Psychonauts and Brütal Legend. Assemble your team of three from seven unlikely adventurers, each with his or her own unique personality and story. Descend into mysterious depths to explore many different locations, including a subterranean amusement park and a medieval castle, not to mention a fully armed and ready-to-launch nuclear-tipped ICBM. The Cave awaits.

So you have a bunch of Virtual Console lying on your Wii. Maybe you’ve already transferred them to a Wii U. Now, what happens if you wanted to transfer save data when the Wii U VC service officially launches this spring?

Unfortunately, Nintendo has confirmed that gamers won’t be able to transfer saves from the Wii’s Virtual Console to the Wii U’s Virtual Console. You’ll be able to “upgrade” Wii VC games sitting on your console to the Wii U version at a later date, but you’ll have to start over from the beginning.

On Monday, Nintendo will carry out “emergency” maintenance for its various online services. The Wii U eShop, 3DS eShop, DSi Shop, and Wii Shop Channel will all be inaccessible. Additionally, the Pokemon Black/White and Pokemon Black/White 2 services will be affected, as will Warriors Orochi 3 Hyper’s online functionality.

Most of the maintenance will start and end on Monday. The full downtime listings can be found below.

This week’s Nintendo Download includes the following featured content:

Nintendo eShop on Nintendo 3DS
Fire Emblem Awakening – Demo Version – Lead an army of knights, mages, archers and other classes into battle to defend a fantasy world teetering on the brink of war. Your army, which grows as the game’s epic story progresses, is composed of a brave group of memorable characters with unique abilities. Just plan your attacks carefully – the lives of your soldiers and the future of the world depend on it. The full version of Fire Emblem Awakening launches exclusively on Nintendo 3DS on Feb. 4.

Tokyo Crash Mobs – You need fast reflexes and an eye for strategy to succeed in this puzzle game. In Tokyo Crash Mobs, you must toss bystanders into lines of people, grouping three or more who wear the same color to make them disappear. Eliminate the lines as fast as you can to win. With two modes, this game has you covered, whether you’re looking for quick play sessions or endurance challenges.

The Wii U has been out for a couple of months now, but there’s one peculiar aspect about the system that hasn’t been discussed.

Were you hoping to link your Club Nintendo account to the Wii Shop Channel? Well… it’s not possible. As a result, consumers won’t receive any coins for titles purchased on the store.

Nintendo says that the limitation is in place due to “certain system constraints”.

You’ll obviously still get coins for games bought on the original Wii Shop Channel – you know, on an actual Wii. It’s also possible to link a Club Nintendo account to the Wii U eShop. But if you were hoping to download a few extra titles and earn some coins, you’re out of luck.

Thanks to R for the tip.

Nintendo has deleted an upcoming Wii Virtual Console games page on its Japanese website. The move has sparked speculation that the company could be looking to bring the service to an end sometime soon.

As of now, Nintendo still seems to be supporting the Wii VC in North America and Europe. World Heroes 2 came out in the states just last week. Europe received the VC title Ninja Master’s Haoh-Ninpo-Cho on January 10.
