Wii U eShop

Retromade Games is bringing at least two games to the Wii U: Hell IX, a helicopter shooter and Fixie Joe, a run & jump experience.

Actually, there’s one catch with the former. Hell IX will need to reach its Kickstarter funding goal of $22,000 in order to begin production.

Hell IX and Fixie Joe titles appear to be just the start of Retromade’s support. CEO Jose A. Gallardo told Nintendo Life about a couple of new ideas – “one related to space conquest and combat and the other related to ancient Asian mythologies, a sort of MMO.”

Jett Rocket originally started out on Wii as a WiiWare title. In December 2011, developer Shin’en announced a sequel for the 3DS as an eShop release.

Yet even though Jett Rocket is making the transition from console to handheld, Shin’en isn’t opposed to bring Jett Rocket II to the Wii U eShop.

You may remember how, a few weeks ago, Shin’en published a tweet that seemed to ask fans about their feelings regarding an HD version. We followed up with the studio about the possibility of a Wii U port, and were told the following:

“We originally didn’t plan a Wii U version of JR2 but since we connected a 3DS devkit to a TV to capture some footage we realized the game would work great on the big screen. So if fans really ask for it we would be happy to go for it.”

So there you have it. Want Jett Rocket II on Wii U? Let Shin’en know!

I picked up the new indie title Cloudberry Kingdom on Wii U this evening and was disheartened to see that the leaderboards were only functioning offline– meaning it only registered scores that were obtained on my Wii U system locally. After poking around Miiverse for a bit I learned from educated game owners that the leaderboards simply aren’t online-capable right now, but Pwnee Studios does plan on patching that in.

It’s unfortunate, for sure. I’m looking forward to being able to compare my scores with my friends soon.

Spin the Bottle may be updated to incorporate the GamePad’s front facing camera.

KnapNok Games intends to bring future updates to Spin the Bottle. One potential idea is to take advantage of the GamePad’s camera.

According to KnapNok Games’ Lau Krosgaard:

“Right now, we are exploring… hmm… so this is kind of not official yet, but let’s say it to the world! [Laughs] I think our next update would be themed around the camera. We don’t really use that in these minigames, we have ideas of how to use the camera in some weird ways. So that is actually going to be our next update.”

Krosgaard also spoke about a desire to incorporate community features:

“I would really love to make an update which is more like a community update. I would like ideas from our fans, so that is our long term goal. Let us see what we can do. One thing I would really love to include at some point is the option of making your own extra rules. While you play, you write down an extra rule and be like ‘That is rule of this game!’ But then, maybe make an option to share those rules between players in the Miiverse. That would be really crazy.”

Spin the Bottle developer KnapNok Games has teamed up with Nifflas, the man behind NightSky, for a brand new Wii U title.

KnapNok’s Lau Krosgaard shared the news with NintendoWorldReport in a recent interview. Krosgaard was coy with regard to specific details, but did say:

“What we can say is that we are actually working together with a Swedish developer called Nifflas, who did NightSky for 3DS. He has been doing all of these amazing, moody platformers also just for PC. He is a brilliant game developer and he really wanted to make a game for the Wii U. He had this idea and so now we are working with him on realizing that basically. It is basically his game, so it is not a weird party game as we like to do and it is really a Nifflas game.”

Krosgaard also said the following when asked if the new game will be similar to that of NightSky:

“You will definitely like this one, but it is very early right now. We might be able to show screenshots in a few months towards the end of the year, but the launch might be in a year or something like that.”

how_to_survive_wii_u_listing

How to Survive may be coming to Wii U. The USK (Germany’s ratings board) added a listing for a potential Wii U version to its database recently.

505 Games announced How to Survive for digital platforms a few months ago. It’s a brand new IP from developer EKO Studios.

Here’s the official overview:

Featuring a robust crafting system, unique survival guide and a host of playable characters, How to Survive strands players on a remote archipelago off the coast of Colombia in the aftermath of an unexplained accident … but you’re not alone. In order to survive, you must fulfill the most basic of needs – seeking out food, water and shelter, as well as crafting dozens of tools and weapons from fishing rods to Molotov cocktails. Players can also team up with other survivors in local and online multiplayer story and challenge modes to take on a growing array of the infected.

How to Survive will be released this fall. We’ll try to find out if this one really is in the works for Wii U.

Thanks to LetsPlayWiiU for the tip.

Nintendo has been “fantastic” to work with, Just Add Water CEO and Oddworld Inhabitants development director Stewart Gilray has told us.

Stewart shared the information in an interview soon to be published on Nintendo Everything. He also officially confirmed that Dan Adelman, the man in charge of all things indie at Nintendo of America, specifically asked for Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath HD on Wii U. That was the starting point for the title’s presence on Nintendo’s new console, along with Munch’s Oddysee HD.

“Indeed, their developer relations man is a fan of the franchise so reached out to us to ask for that title specifically, that’s where the discussions started. In terms of what are they like to work with, they’re fantastic. I’ve NEVER had a problem with working with Nintendo in respect of their people and teams, it’s been a case of a problem in terms of the hardware and indeed the lack of a competent digital outlet, until now.”
