“I wanted to treat slavery in the game. It’s a very delicate subject, obviously. But I thought the best way to approach it would be to make it a fact of life. Rather than go for any intense scenes of brutality to draw in your sympathy, I wanted something that was more low-key, but constant. We’re going to focus on telling it like it was.”

“It’s true that pirates were more egalitarian, but there was still quite a bit of bigotry at the time. Runaway slaves would often sail with pirates, but they were still not trusted with weapons, most of the time. I hope I deal with that in the script, very frankly.”

LEGO Movie The Videogame made its playable debut at Comic-Con following last week’s announcement. For a few details about the title, check out the summary below.

– Game uses a stop-motion kind of effect for Emmet’s animation (like jumping, punching, etc.)
– TT Games originally toyed with this sort of idea for LEGO Star Wars
– Demo level takes place in a construction site in Bricksburg
– Everything is built on LEGOs (buildings, backgrounds, ground, etc.)
– Explosions are also made up of translucent bricks and fire-shaped elements
– Players can also get to experience some of the sensations that come with building with actual LEGO sets in gameplay sections that incorporate the familiar Lego instruction sheets
– Will be prompted to choose the right element in a series of steps using a radial menu
– Emmet and Vitruvius are the only confirmed characters
– Over 90 characters will be included
