Wii U

A whole bunch of indie developers have weighed in on Nintendo’s eShops. Most of the commentary focuses on Wii U, but there are also tidbits about the 3DS. For instance, Bertil Horberg was able to confirm that Gunman Clive is heading to the portable’s digital store.

Going back to Wii U, indie developers discussed revenue cuts, expressed optimism over Nintendo’s deal with Unity, and more.

There’s lots of content to read up on below.

Game Informer asked a group of random people if they know what the Wii U is. Here’s how things turned out…

This is pretty silly if you ask me! The new trailer for Assassin’s Creed III came out today, and if you watch either the UK or the US version alone, nothing seems terribly off. If you watch both? You might notice that something is missing from that US version, namely a scene that shows Connor (the main character) killing 3-4 American revolutionaries. The US version still shows one American soldier’s death, but they definitely cut it down. Here’s the UK trailer, with the cut-out parts at 2:09 and beyond:

Note that this news is for Japan, but it’s pretty decent nonetheless: Ken’s Rage 2 is coming to the Wii U on December 20th! It’s the same as the PS360 version of the game, but it does include added Gamepad functionality and/or Classic Controller Pro support.

People in Japan are excited for the Wii U, but they’re also a tad worried that Nintendo will goof up the launch like they did with the 3DS. Here’s the rundown, as well as some quotes from Famitsu readers who were surveyed:

– 45% of respondents said they will buy the system on launch day.

– 37% said they’ll buy it eventually.

– 72% of those who will buy it are planning on getting the deluxe set instead of the basic, 8GB model.

– Most people cited the launch lineup (NSMBU, Monster Hunter Ultimate) as the main reason for purchase.

– “Now that I know I can play Monster Hunter online on it, I definitely want to buy it sometime soon.”

– “I want to see Mario and Dragon Quest X in HD as soon as I can, so I have a preorder in for launch day.”

– “I prefer the white color, but there’s a huge difference betwen 8GB and 32GB of internal memory. I’m sure I’m going to have free-space problems down the line if I get the Basic Set, so I’ll be getting the Premium version.”

– “Between the launch lineup and what Iwata has been saying, I feel like Nintendo is devoting a lot of attention to core gamers this time around. I hope they fully act on that, since that group got kind of left behind with the Wii.”

Xenoblade came out in Japan in June 2010. It hit Europe about a year later. North America had to wait another eight months for the title.

What took so long? Reggie Fils-Aime explained:

“We needed to make sure that there was really an opportunity for it. We wanted to see how it would sell in Europe, and based on the performance in Europe, we would look to bring it here to the U.S. It did well in Europe; we decided to bring it in here. We took a very smart approach and we sold it ourselves online in terms of physical goods as well as a focus on GameStop as a retailer, and it was a very good effort for us.”

Reggie was further asked how it sold. He responded with “Quite well.”
