PDP says it hasn’t confirmed the Wii U release date

PDP community manager Candace Hinton has responded to the Wii U release date “leak”.
Hinton said that the company isn’t sure when the console will launch. Even though some of PDP’s accessories may have a release date, consumers shouldn’t be taking that as the actual timing for the Wii U’s arrival.
“… at this time we can’t confirm Nintendo’s dates and we don’t know exactly what was heard, but we simply do not know that this point. We are launching accessories, but the date for the accessories doesn’t mean a confirmation on the hardware. If you seek confirmation on the date that is something that is going to need to go specifically though Nintendo, but we can’t confirm or deny dates on any of their hardware.”
Nintendo’s response to the situation was terse. A representative stated:
“We have nothing to announce at this time.”
Project Giana has been in consideration Wii U, but won’t happen yet

Black Forest Games has been thinking about bringing Project Giana to Wii U. The game has receiving a great deal of attention on Kickstarter.
Senior producer Vladimir Ignatov recently told Destructoid that the team has been thinking about bringing Project Giana to Wii U. Ignatov seems to believe that the hardware and audience would be a good fit, but says BFG is “focusing on the other services” for now.
“To be honest, we’ve been tempted by Nintendo’s new hardware and put some thoughts into a Wii U port. With a handful of core third party titles that are already confirmed for Wii U, the console positioning seem to be in-line with Giana target audience and it would be reasonable for us to release it there. It goes without saying it would be great honor for us to stand shoulder to shoulder with these great Nintendo platformers. Right now we are focusing on the other services however.”
Rumor: PDP suggests November 18 launch for Wii U

The GameStop managers’ conference has been taking place in Texas over the past few days. One of the more significant rumors coming from the event concerns the Wii U’s release date.
A PDP representative apparently hinted at a November 18 launch for Wii U. While talking about the company’s lineup, this person said that the Wii U peripherals would be available just ahead of the console’s November 18 release date.
A source told Kotaku:
“They changed the subject real quickly once they realized what they said.”
November 18 is one of many dates that have been thrown around thus far. Nintendo will confirm the Wii U’s launch information on September 13.
Lots of Scribblenauts Unlimited details

The August 2012 issue of Nintendo Power contains lots and lots of Scribblenauts Unlimited details. I’ve been meaning to write up a summary of the article for awhile now, but I was reminded once again to do so with the news concerning the magazine’s closure.
In any case, you can find a comprehensive transcript of the details after the break.
Upcoming Wii U toys from… Burger King leads to more release date speculation
Posted on 12 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in Rumors, Videos, Wii U | 0 comments
There have been some pretty crazy Wii U release date rumors before… but this latest one may take the cake.
Apparently Burger King will be receiving toys relating to the Wii U on October 25. That has sparked speculation that the console could launch in late October or early November.
I still personally believe that the Wii U will release in mid to late November. But with Nintendo, you never know!
Thanks to Lars Havnes for the tip.
Tekken series producer on why he thinks Nintendo chose Namco Bandai for Smash Bros.
Posted on 12 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in 3DS, News, Wii U | 0 comments
Nintendo has a very good relationship with Namco Bandai. You may not hear about their comradery on a regular basis, but Tekken series producer Katsuhiro Harada says that the two “have established a very good working relationship” behind-the-scenes.
That’s one factor behind Nintendo’s choice to team up with Namco Bandai for the next Smash Bros., Harada believes. He also thinks that Namco Bandai’s extensive experience with fighting titles contributed to the decision.
“I think Nintendo chose us just because Smash Brothers is a fighting game. We have over 17 years of continuously developing titles in our franchise [Tekken], I think they felt we were a choice for that. Also, we’ve continually developed a very good relationship with Nintendo. Maybe not necessarily in the public spotlight but kind of behind the scenes. We have established a very good working relationship with them. Not just Nintendo, but as a company, we have a very good relationship with Sakurai-san at Sora as well. I think that we are in very good position to make a great game for the Smash Brothers series.”

Consumers can place a pre-order for Wii U at Gamestation
Posted on 12 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in News, Wii U | 0 comments
According to the Gamestation Dudley Twitter account, the retailer is now taking pre-orders for Wii U. A £20 deposit is required to place an early order. This should apply to GAME outlets as well.
Gamestation doesn’t have any news about a price, release date, colors, or any other launch information. That will be changing on September 13, though, as a “global announcement” is planned. Even though Nintendo of Europe won’t be holding a press conference on that day, there will be details to share.
September Wii U media event begins at 10 AM

CNET has given us a full look at the Wii U media event invitation. It’s honestly not that big of a deal, but it does confirm that the proceedings will begin at 10 AM and carry through 4 PM. I imagine that first hour will consist of a press conference in which the Wii U release date and price are announced, followed by hands-on time with games.
Remember: this will all be taking place on September 13. We’ll be sure to cover all of the important news!
