Wii

It’s the 21st in Japan, so we’ll stick with that date! The presentation should begin in 15 minutes.

Keep tabs on the site once it has begun. Trailers, news, and other content can be found here.

Update: Some clarification from Nintendo of America’s Facebook.

The following message was posted:

“Wondering how you’ll understand tonight’s Nintendo Direct since it’s all in Japanese? Don’t worry, we’ll be sharing North American related announcements (in English). Check back here and on our @NintendoAmerica Twitter around 8:30 PM PT to get all the news.”

So… it sounds like there will be announcements for North America. Or news. Or something. Point is, there will be something for North American Nintendo fans. Whether they share this news in the form of a Nintendo Direct video remains to be seen.

Original post:

It seems as though North America will be getting its own Nintendo Direct later tonight. At the very minimum, there will definitely be “some news” from Nintendo of America.

The company will be sharing updates beginning at 8:30 PM PST / 11:30 PM EST.

Nintendo of America tweeted just moments ago:

“We’ve got some news to share 2nite around 8:30pm PT. Be sure to check back to get the latest!”

Satoru Iwata will be on hand to share the latest information about the 3DS and Wii. Essentially, you can expect footage, trailers, and other material for Japanese games. We’ll probably see the first trailer for Project X Zone and other upcoming releases.

Keep track of the Nintendo Direct page here. It’s currently unclear if Nintendo of America/Europe will be holding their own presentations.

Beenox studio head Dee Brown took to Twitter a couple of nights ago to answer a bunch of fan questions about The Amazing Spider-Man. Brown commented on the title’s gameplay elements, upcoming trailer, and more.

8bitfix compiled a helpful summary of Brown’s messages, which you can find below.

– No voice actors have been confirmed yet. It remains to be seen if Andrew Garfield or Emma Stone will be lending their voices to the game.

– Gwen Stacey, Dr. Curt Connors, Rhino and Iguana are the only confirmed characters so far.

– Brown believes that this is the best-looking Spider-Man game to date.

GameReactor has published an interview with n-Space’s Dan O’Leary at iDÉAME 2012. The co-founder opened up on a couple of topics.

Remember the “dark” Wii game Winter? It was cancelled a number of years ago due to a lack of interest from publishers. n-Space pitched the project two times, but publishers felt that such a game wouldn’t fit on the console.

This is what Winter looked like in 2009.

That being said, n-Space would like to pursue the idea in the future. Dan O’Leary said that it could be considered for Wii U, and may ask for fan support through Kickstarter.

Dan O’Leary noted:

“You know, there’s Wii U coming out and maybe that changes things. And we’re definitely interested in pursuing Winter at some point. With things like Kickstarter…”

n-Space developed a number of first-person shooters for the DS. The studio hasn’t been involved with the genre on Nintendo’s newest portable up to this point, but the studio would “love to make a FPS for the 3DS” in the future.

Junction Point Studios’ Warren Spector is already thinking about a third Epic Mickey game.

Spector normally approaches development by considering a trio of titles. When working on a project, he tends to “plan out at least three games” since his “games take about three years to make and I need to make sure I’m willing to put in as many as ten years of my life on something.”

Spector explained:

“I assume every game developer has a process they go through when they start a new project, and mine involves a couple of things.

“One is [that] there are seven questions I ask myself and if I can’t answer them I don’t do it, and that’s posted on my blog if you’re curious. But the other is, I always plan out at least three games.

“I plan out a three-game story arc, and I plan out a three-game, sort of, gameplay arc, what am I going to introduce in each game. I don’t do that because I actually expect to do those games, I do it because my games take about three years to make and I need to make sure I’m willing to put in as many as ten years of my life on something.”

“It’s got to be a compelling enough world and compelling enough characters that I can do that. And so before we started with the first one I had four stories actually. At the high level, sort of thought out, I did this for Deus Ex too. I knew what the first three games were going to be before we started the first one.”

“For example, I knew we were going to do some songs in the second game and I knew we were going to do two player co-op multiplayer, I just knew that before we started the first game. And have an idea that if we’re lucky enough to do a third one what we’re going to do.

“So I already had an idea of what’s the next step, you know, before we started, so I’m always incentivised to do it.”
