Classic character cements his place as a gaming legend by starring in his own TV channel available exclusively on Wii

Fresh from the recent release of the critically acclaimed Kirby’s Epic Yarn, the cute and adorable Kirby is returning to Wii on 23rd June 2011, as part of his own dedicated TV Channel. The Kirby TV Channel will be available across much of Europe as a completely free download and will feature TV shows staring Kirby, the legendary Star Warrior, as he battles King Dedede in Dream Land.

Dragon Quest X has been in development for Wii for many years. However, with Wii U on the horizon, it’s possible that the title will be released for Nintendo’s upcoming console as well.

Speaking at a shareholder’s meeting, Square Enix CEO Yoichi Wada said that the company has to consider releasing the project for both platforms. This was in response to a question about whether it makes sense to launch Dragon Quest X for Wii when the system has passed its prime. Currently Square Enix is looking into the Wii U hardware from a technical standpoint and is evaluating how to support the console.

Regarding Dragon Quest Anniversary Collection, Wada was pressed on if he expects the title to perform well on the market given the fact that the package primarily consists of ports. Wada said that the titles are being left as is to honor the series’ 25th anniversary.

Nintendo software producer and director Katsuya Eguchi on why Nintendo is keeping the basic Mii design from Wii to Wii U…

“Actually, the Miis that will be used on the Wii U are going to be the same as the ones on the 3DS. On the 3DS we tweaked [the design] a little bit. We added some features, and the Mii editor that’s on the 3DS is different from the one that’s on the Wii. Ultimately we’ll use those same Miis on the Wii U. Right now it looks the same as the ones on the Wii because we don’t have the ability to create Miis in the Wii U yet.”

I really feel like Skyward Sword is getting snubbed. Sure, perhaps it wasn’t the best game of E3, but no one is really acknowledging it or anything. I wasn’t at the trade show, though Austin seemed to greatly enjoy the game and the footage I saw had me impressed!

Miyamoto on the Wii U controller and how he doesn’t believe it’s changing what worked in the past…

“Well, we still have the Wii Remotes compatible with our new system, so I think in terms of play styles I think you still have the options you had in the past. I think one of the benefits of having the new controller with the screen is that you could play an entire game on it while someone else is doing something on the television. Of course, you could use the touch screen for simple things like drawing pictures or using it for something like an FPS, leveraging the screen as well as the buttons in a new way. You could also use it in a Zelda game, with a map and items on the bottom screen.”

According to Satoru Iwata, Nintendo started thinking about a second screen for the Wii U as early as 2007. But the company originally thought about making the screen separate from the controller. Also, it was quite a bit smaller since LCDs costed much more back in 2007.

“Considering how expensive screens were then, it did not make sense to have this big-sized LCD. We would not have been able to come up with a reasonable price point. … We had not decided when we were going to launch the new console [at that point], but we knew we needed to be flexible.”
